Is the Boehner/Obama cromnibus bill going to die in the Senate?

December 13, 2014

happy_harry_reid I am sure it is all going to work out (if you can call it that) in the end but for right now, here we go again. It appears as if, much like in the House, usually-opposing factions are teaming up to stop the Boehner/Obama cromnibus bill.

Harry Reid had intended to bring the cromnibus bill to the Senate Floor yesterday for a quick vote in order to avoid a government shut down tonight but he pulled the bill from consideration and here is why:

Reports state that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tried to force a quick Friday afternoon vote to send the CR-Omnibus budget to the President to be signed into law, but Republican Senators Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, and Jeff Sessions wanted Reid to agree to allow a vote to defund Obama’s amnesty plans before they would agree to vote for the budget.

A senior Capitol Hill aide noted that a quick end to Senate deliberations was blocked when Harry Reid refused to allow any vote on defunding Obama’s amnesty. Reid’s refusal, the staffer said, has become an “ongoing problem.”

Republicans, though, were not the only ones making tough demands on Reid. Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren demanded that Reid strip out financial deregulation provisions in the budget the House passed. Reid was reluctant to agree to that, as well.

But what is interesting about today’s session is that Harry Reid has apparently put funding the government on the back-burner so that he can focus on other issues:

But Reid has a whole list of things–including some of Obama’s nominees–that Democrats want dealt with before they lose the majority to the incoming GOP victors of November’s midterm election, and the budget bill will likely come only after some of these items are dealt with on Saturday.

With the long list of deals that Reid wants handled first, the Senate could run out of time before the budget comes up for discussion.

The Democrats have higher priorities than keeping the government open and they are based on purely partisan issues–trying to push as much through before the Republicans take over–and if that means they do not get to the cromnibus, so bit it.

This is very interesting because we all remember that when Ted Cruz shut down the government in his effort to defund Obamacare he was pilloried by the Democrats and the mainstream media for putting partisan politics ahead of funding the government.

Is not this the same? Yeah, I thought so…

IMO, the Republicans, as usual, missed a great opportunity. They have known this day was coming since the mid-terms results came in. They should have gone on any news program they could and asked repeatedly “Will President Obama and the Democrats really shut-down the government just to demand money for illegal immigrants?” In other words, they should have made the President and the Democrats own any potential for a shut down. Oh weel! There is a reason the GOP is called the stupid party.

Absolutely right Jim! If they opposed amnesty they could have won thins fight because the people are on their side. However, they support amnesty so they really don’t care about Obama’s actions. They are just putting on a show.

We had high hopes, Jim! However, once again, we were let down except for a handful that put up a good fight and were attacked by their own party. I believe most in Congress are working together and against US. We had a chance, with the help of some of the Democrats to shut this bill down and still we blew it, so guess they never meant to stop it. Now they say they funded the DHS only until the end of February and would fight Amnesty then. Well, from what I have seen in the past, once it gets its’ foot in the door, you play hell putting a stop to anything in the government. So WE won the House and Senate, really doesn’t seem to be making any difference, does it!?! Obama has geared up with his building and employees to make damn sure the illegals get signed up for every available benefit we can give them. I wonder about the Americans that have been trying to get even food stamps and are turned down, what becomes of them? I hate to say it, but I think they are no longer an asset to Obama at this point and he has his big army heading his way for the next vote. The American peopel will learn the hard way, that once he has used you and doesn’t need you any longer, you cease to exist to him. Guess that is called “tough love”!

And now (as I wrote about in my latest post) conservatives are turning on Cruz for stalling the vote on the cromnibus! They are letting the left define the narrative on Cruz while glorifying Warren’s role in slowing down the bill.

Meanwhile, unless there is any reason that the GOP will win this battle, it is a fools mission. Obama gets all of his nominees approved which otherwise would have been leverage plus who knows whatever other nonsense will get done by the Dems. Shooting themselves – GOP-once more in the foot.

If every time they raised the spending ceiling it docked their personal pay and benefits this wouldn’t be happening.
