Florida teacher reassigned after bringing a toy musket to a history lesson on the Revolutionary War

December 16, 2014

A Florida teacher, Gema Evans, is  the latest victim of the politically correct police. Her crime? She brought a toy Revolutionary War musket to class to use as a prop during a history lesson. For this “crime” she has been reassigned.

  Here is more:

A longtime Osceola County teacher has been reassigned after taking a fake rifle to Neptune Middle School in Kissimmee.

Local 6 has learned the toy musket was used during the history teacher’s lesson on the American Revolutionary War. The eighth-grade teacher, identified as Gema Evans, used the prop last week. But this week, students came forward with concerns. The Osceola County School District said several complained that they were frightened by the replica.

“If it was one of those, like a squirt gun looking thing, then by all means, that’s fine,” said one parent, Lauren Beck.

One could argue that this might not have been the smartest thing to do in today’s world and one could argue she should have used better judgement, especially in light of the fact look-a-like weapons are banned in that school, however that is not what I want to focus on here.

I want to focus on the reporting, if you watched the news report and read the entire article did you notice anything?

The  headline of the article, as well as several times in the article itself, the reporters on television, and the banner on the television screen continually referred to the musket as a rifle. Why is that? Revolutionary War era muskets were not rifles and yet the story continually misleads viewers and readers into believing she took a toy rifle to school.

Was it simple ignorance on the part of everyone involved in the reporting of this story or was it deliberate because musket is not scary sounding enough and the goal was to continue the conditioning of the American people?

In the future teachers should be careful not to hold the banana with the condom in a menacing manner.

I was lucky enough to be taught much of History with original primary sources such as Washington, Jefferson, etc original writings. I imagine by now that would be unacceptable. History needs to be interpreted now to be P.C.

I watched and read the article, it was mentioned at first as a rifle, but it was also stated that it was a musket. I don’t know if that’s so much of a concern knowing the difference. What immediately jumped out at me was the fact that 1. it was the students that turned her in on it and 2. the students said they were scared. It seems the liberal process has worked well in defining what guns mean to society (to students), even if it is a teacher using a toy as part of a history lesson, and the students knew it was a toy. To me, if it were another teacher, or administrative personnel saying something about it wouldn’t have been much of a story. One of the interviewed parents stated, if this were years ago she wouldn’t have mind at all. What’s next, textbooks without pictures or descriptions of guns?

That is an interesting point, but also the children did not complain for a week so I wonder if there is more at play here.

Well, most of the teachers are liberals, aren’t they? You would assume that she knew better than to bring something like that to class for that reason. I can only imagine that they have “rules” to live by in schools, right? As far as calling it a rifle, they could have gone further and made sure they compared it to an “assault weapon” by saying it is the “grandfather” or “proto-type” to one. This has gotten too out of hand and the KIDS turned her in? That tells me that their parents probably do not own any form of firearm, just like our Government wants. Sickening! I know they are changing history on a daily basis in school books, at what point does history as we know it cease to exist? Bet it is coming soon!

Yeah, I think she showed bad judgement for she should have known what would happen in today’s America. And yes also to your point that the liberals are trying to erase history in order to rewrite it to their liking so that they can advance their agenda.
