Open thread for Sunday, December 28th: Love Vigilantes

December 28, 2014

open-threadHere is the open thread for Sunday, December 28th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

With the Christmas holiday in the middle of the week this was a slow week blogging with only 10 stories to discuss, but still they were important stories. While blogging might have been down everyone was busy so it is understandable if you missed any posts. If you did miss anything there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?

Now, on to the musical selection of the week: A couple of weeks ago I posted a video of one of my all-time favorite bands Joy Division. Joy Division was cut short with the tragic suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis but the band is still considered to be one of the most influential alternative rock bands from the era.

Out of the ashes of Joy Division rose New Order. The band, led by Joy Division lead guitarist Bernard Sumner who took over on lead vocals, reformed and went on to become the godfathers of electronic music.

Before fully morphing into the electronic sound which would eventually define the band they released “Love Vigilantes” and this might be my favorite song by New Order.

I heard this song on the radio the other day for the first time in many years and so I decided to share it today.

  Enjoy:

SDL, I remember in the ’80’s when heavy metal music came under fire here in the US after a couple of teen suicides. People were running around calling it the devil’s music and calling for it to be banned. We don’t hear that here anymore, but I still remember it.

People are afraid of what they do not know! They are unwilling to try something or listen to something because it is not what they are used to. I always have an open mind on stuff, you never know what you might learn and actually LIKE it! I remember when I was taking some emt classes, before tests we used to listen to Nelly’s Country Grammar song on the way there, good beat and got us prepared for the test, go figure….a middle aged woman (then, now I am just old, haha) listening to Nelly. So see, people do have the ability to adapt, you just have to make an effort. We also listened to Bon Jovi’s, It’s My Life and Wildest Dream by Moody Blues at the same time, so we ran the gammet of genre songs.

The more I hear about “cop” shootings the more I am convinced that the ones doing it have the backing of this Administration. Ever so often you hear them do a smack on the hand of those that are doing their bidding, but not that much. Clearly, this is a job that alot of people will think twice about entering. When did becoming an Officer of the Law become a less than honorable position? I am wondering if there is not going to be more selective killings/executions based on color now? It has been random or has it, I do not know any more. All I DO know is that I think at some point there is going to be hell breaking out and retaliation of the sane people that have had enough. What will happen then and who will be blamed? People can only take so much of this insane crap and they have to react. Will the gang bangers be wanting protection from these same “cops” when that happens? Who knows. Guess I have given up on what is rational anymore.

I just read an article where the “thugs” are now targeting the police in their homes. I remember growing up in East St. Louis in the 50’s and 60’s, Dad always made sure the blinds were shut before dark, later on he said it was in case there was any retaliation on his family because he was a policeman and may be targeted for putting someone in jail, etc. At that time, being a child, I did not think too much about it, I was a “policemans kid” as they say and it went along with just how it was. Now I see how serious he was about it. If they catch who is doing it, they should prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, Eric Holder be damned. This whole mess has gotten out of hand and it has started from the White House down, I will not believe otherwise.
