Open thread for Sunday, February 1st: Under the Blade

February 1, 2015

open-thread  Here is the open thread for Sunday, February 1st. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

This week we discussed another 11 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?

For this week’s musical selection I decided to share a video from a band I was into for a short period of time in the 1980’s. The band is named Twisted Sister and if you are familiar with them it is probably through the songs “We’re Not Gonna take it” or “I Wanna Rock” but we will be going back before their breakthrough album.

Here is “Under the Blade” live from 1982.

It is hard to beat Twisted Sister on costumes, and Dee Snider is pretty strange on his own. But here is one I wanted to shared. I wish I knew how to do it right, but here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whPzJbntlnY
“The earth died screaming”. I hope the link works.

Hi Bruce, a tip to get the Utube address so the vid open in the blog. Right under the vid and host name there’s ‘Add to’ ‘Share’ ‘More’. Click ‘Share’. Under that will open a list of social page icon and a highlighted address, copy it and paste it in the reply box.
That was a strange and interesting vid you found to share. Hummm.

Yea! Success! Thanks Zip that worked. Tom Waits has been around a long time, but he is so strange I am only drawn to a few of his works, but the ones I like, I really like. Even in interviews, he is strange, but funny. I also like “The Piano has been drinking” and “Romeo is bleeding”
He makes anyone think they have a good voice.

At one point in my life THAT was music, haha! I have since moved on to other forms of “noise” and try and keep the decibel level down a bit! So much for headphones and cranking it up as loud as it would go….I still, somehow have retained the majority of my hearing.
Where is SDL? Look forward to his postings on Sunday with his best of the best countdown!
Not that anyone cares, but we have been getting another rental up and running, so it has been touch and go on reading and posting for awhile. Then, we got the snow and sleet and freezing rain the past few days to contend with. It is on its’ way to YOU now, Steve, enjoy!

Lou, how do you check for mold? Esp. if it’s between walls.
      Thanks!

Oh Lou, I knew we had several things in common, but a rental owner as well? You have my full sympathy. I just this second finished up the rental agreement for a new tenant. 24 PAGES! How can you not hate government after going through that?

Yep, Bruce, this is #7 for us..will sign papers today at 4:30. There is alot you have to cover for both us AND the renter. From possible mold issues to the lead paint, etc, you just have to cover all of your bases. Sometimes you get good renters and sometimes a bad one slips by and you go thru the 5 day notice and the eviction process and the ever happening “clean up” of stuff they leave behind, then the painting, floor re-do’s, etc…fun, isn’t it? We have heard every excuse imaginable for why the rent cannot be paid! We are responsible for garbage costs and the renters know they can walk away from the water bill and it will fall on us….that Deposit will only cover so much damage/replacement and bills, but rentals are probably the best place to get top return on your investment….sometimes I have to wonder if it is worth the effort, but in the end, it IS!

HAHAHAHAHA! 1%, indeed! It is some needed extra income since our Government sees hell bent on taking everything we have and then some.

Sorry Lou, I couldn’t help myself, but I knew you would get a kick out of that…
It is sad how this government sees success as something which needs to be punished.

Success or just trying to survive, not sure there is much more than a blurred line between the two now. You know, when we got married (years and years ago), we had 22% interest rates on mortgages, but we had high hopes in the future, we had kids and they would have a better life than us…..right? RIGHT? Now I am not so sure they will, we may have seen the last of what was “good” about America in the generation of the kids that grew up in the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. It is amazing that one piece of crap could take us down so easily and people let it happen. I know most of us are at a loss of what to do and we thought putting good people into Congress was the answer, but now we see they can be bought and paid for rather easily. Where does it leave us and where does it leave our kids and grandkids, now? We always assumed that the person elected to the highest office of our country would have respect for our country and would do whatever it took to keep us the Greatest Country in the World, where did we go wrong?

I too started in my business under the stag-flation mess created by Jimmy, and in these days of disinflation it is hard to remember that 14% interest was a GOOD deal, and I paid the 22% as well.
But here is the key Lou. Woodrow Wilson was a progressives progressive with contempt for the constitution. And had FDR’s buddy Harry Hopkins got his way, and WWII not got in his way, socialism would be the rule of the day. But at that time, few people depended on big government, and the central government was pretty small. AND you had traditional families, churches, neighborhood schools, and a strong work ethic and a strong belief in personal liberty and responsibility to balance big government.
That is what has changed. That is what I meant by paradigm shift, everything has moved far to the left. That is why I try to support anyone willing to argue against the left . Like in WWII, we have to fight for inches, because miles simply aren’t possible..

I was a child when the interest rate was 22% but I still remember hearing about it on the news when my parents were watching it. Can’t imagine what that was like…

It is just how it was, Steve, to think we had a mortgage at that rate, looking back it was robbing us. We would be so much better off and further ahead now, but what could you do then?
Bruce, you are right, things have changed and we know not for the better. Everything has to be run thru the Government now, it seems. I see that herbal supplements are under fire, so it will be a matter of time before they fall under the control of the BIG Pharma. Pretty soon, there will be nothing we can do without doctor approval, you know?
As I said before, the best days are behind us now, we can only try, as you say to fight for “inches”.

This guy nailed it! I did not see the halftime show because part of our tradition when the Pats are in the Superbowl is to go outside in the cold without coats to talk about the first half. Now I wish I watched it because the symbolism is obvious to those who have followed this. I didn’t see the commercials he talks about but there is no doubt that Scientology is the secular humanist religion of those who are “illuminated.”

Glad you liked it. He does some interesting ‘connecting the dots’ vids. Where the public thing the Super Bowl is football the illuminated ones see it as a platform to air their ritual ceremony worldwide. And that’s Obola’s masters. Sell your soul and you get to have a short time of fame, before they tell you you’re time’s up and you’re gone.

That was a really strange video, Bruce! Kind of unsettling. Good beat, however. Kind of similar to Leonard Cohen in style.

It seems that given the events of the past few months, and this President’s general lack of interest in what is going on around the world, “the earth died screaming” seemed appropriate. What the video has to do with anything is beyond my grasp.

While listening to Savage today he mocked the prez – mimicking his grandiose statements of ‘how great and might he is’ and ‘his idea for this world is his’ (meaning not our – we’re just lucky to be a part of it while the old is replaced with his new). Sad for sure. Just as he wants to raise ‘spending’ (again). Makes one wonder who he wants to sell his America too after he’s done. Again, illuminati at work. So, you’re right in the screaming part Bruce, but deft and dumb don’t hear or care. That man in the vid, gets a radio, but who’s on the other end of it or what if everyone’s dead?
