The Fort Hood victims will be awarded Purple Hearts

February 7, 2015

Purple-Heart-Black-BgWhen the Obama regime, for purely political reasons, classified the Fort Hood terrorist attack as a case of “workplace violence” the victims of that attack were denied Purple Hearts.

Now according to this story the victims will finally receive what is rightfully theirs because the Congress has changed the Purple Heart criteria.

  Here is more:

The U.S. Army announced Friday that it will award the Purple Heart to the victims of the 2009 Fort Hood killings after years of pressure to designate the shooting as a terrorist attack.

Army Secretary John McHugh said presenting the Purple Heart to victims is “an appropriate recognition of their service and sacrifice.”

“The Purple Heart’s strict eligibility criteria had prevented us from awarding it to victims of the horrific attack at Fort Hood,” Mr. McHugh said in a Defense Department release. “Now that Congress has changed the criteria, we believe there is sufficient reason to allow these men and women to be awarded and recognized with either the Purple Heart or, in the case of civilians, the Defense of Freedom medal.”

Here is what Senator John Cornyn had to say about the news:

“Since the days following the attack in 2009, the victims, their families, the Fort Hood community and so many of us have recognized that fateful day for what it was: an act of terrorism against our country and against our men and women in uniform,” Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Republican, said in a statement. “We can never repay what was lost that day, but today’s news brings long-awaited justice to the victims, especially those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

I agree with Senator Cornyn wholeheartedly and I am happy these people will finally be given the honor they deserve, but I cannot help but feel this compromise lets Barack Obama off the hook for it allows him to silence those who were upset these people were not eligible for the award while also allowing him to continue the politically correct, although inaccurate, claim that this was simply workplace violence.

But more importantly, it is unclear whether this new criteria will allow the victims and their families the medical benefits which were denied to them by labeling this attack workplace violence.

I still do not understand what ctiteria the victims didn’t meet originally. What language change was made? Was it just a matter of once the event was declared “work place violence” in couldn’t be undeclared?

Apparently because it was classified as workplace violence the injuries were not considered to have happened while in the service of the nation. I guess it would be kind of like a serviceman on leave being injured in a car accident. It could be undeclared but Obama will never do that.
