Harry Reid is under attack for endorsing a white guy in the Maryland Senate race
Harry Reid has endorsed Chris Van Hollen in the Maryland Senate race and for this he has come under attack by a major Democratic donor for endorsing a white guy.
Here is part of the statement Harry Reid made in endorsing Chris Van Hollen:
“not only would Chris Van Hollen be the best and most effective person for the job, I have no doubt that he is in the best and strongest position to make sure that this Senate seat remains in Democratic hands in a state that just elected a Republican governor.”
But simply being the “best and most effective person for the job” and being the person who is in the “best and strongest position to make sure the Senate seat remains in Democratic hands” is not a good enough reason for Harry Reid to endorse Chris Van Hollen according to Democratic donor Steve Phillips–in fact he claims it is “insulting.”

A major Democratic donor and activist Friday blasted Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid’s endorsement of Rep. Chris Van Hollen in the Maryland Senate race, which could feature high-profile black Democrats Rep. Donna Edwards and former NAACP head Ben Jealous, who are mulling a run in the state that is 30% black.
“For Harry Reid to come out and endorse Van Hollen is insulting period,” said Steve Phillips, the founder of the progressive group PowerPAC+. Phillips, a lawyer and longtime San Francisco activist, gave the maximum $30,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “But to do it on the anniversary of the Selma 50th anniversary — to make an endorsement that would make the Senate less diverse — is outrageous and insulting.”
Of course Harry Reid did not endorse Van Hollen because he is white–at I do not think so, maybe he is a closet racist–but rather because he has the most experience and is more of an establishment candidate. But I have to admit I am enjoying seeing a Democrat being accused of what so often they accuse Republicans of doing. A little schadenfreude has never hurt anyone, has it?

Diversity is the goal? What happened to choosing the best man for the job? That’s no longer important I guess. Only the color of the person’s skin. The very thing I thought we were fighting against. I am so naive….

You nailed it Laura! So much for a person’s qualifications being enough to qualify a person for a job. This continued attempt to divide Americans is what is going to be our downfall. The left has made a career out of dividing us so it is hard to feel bad for Reid because he is reaping what the left has sowed…

Right, plus what we think is ‘the best man/women for the job’ have a totally different premise from those in rule today. Interesting you’d use ‘reap what you sow’ Steve, in time it does manifest doesn’t it.

It was nice to see the left doing what the right is so good at—tearing each other apart. I certainly would enjoy Reid’s suffering at the hands of a fellow leftist, if I thought it really bothered him. The only thing that bothers Reid are exercise machines and Republicans.
