Open thread for Sunday, April 12th: ‘Fake Plastic Trees’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, April 12th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we covered 12 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.
In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.
The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!
For the musical selection this week I am going to begin the “Swiss Defence League Challenge” and start the countdown of my top ten favorite bands of all time. Coming in at number 10 is a band which would have ranked much higher if they had stuck to the formula of their first three studio albums. However, not wishing to be pigeon-holed into one genre, they began recording more electronic/techno sounding music and while these albums still highlight the band’s talent I stopped following the new material.
Here is Radiohead performing “Fake Plastic Trees” live in 2003:
And here is the song which started the whole thing off:
Radiohead Good Choice Steve !

Interesting version of one of my favorite Radiohead songs! I was going to include Paranoid Android in the post but I had used it before so I decided to use two others instead.

My number 8 spot is Linda Ronstadt. She had one of the clearest beautiful voices I have ever heard. She has Parkinsons now and it has taken her singing voice. She did alot of 40’s tunes towards the end of her singing career that were classic and she did them well, but I remember her best for starting with the Stone Poneys and moving on to singing with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton or Aaron Neville, Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash or the Eagles, to name a few. She had a good range and a strong voice, it was a shock to hear she could no longer sing.

I haven’t had time to listen to them all yet but I like the one with Johnny Cash and that was a very good version of Desperado!

Well, Steve, I can see between the two of us, we are going to supply a wide variety for listening. SDL had some good ones and I imagine you will, as well. Mine will be,well, Lou’s songs. Guess we all have different likes and dislikes, but hope everyone will take the day off of steaming and maybe just kick back and listen to someone they may never have heard.

Yeah, it looks like there will be quite a variety! I have one in common with SDL coming up in a few weeks.

Pat is good, but not near the voice that Linda had. As to your mistake, it bugs the hell out of me too, when I don’t spell check, haha!

I fixed it, but don’t worry, we knew what you meant.
