Democratic Senator implies Barack Obama’s attack on Elizabeth Warren over TPP was sexist

May 12, 2015

I have written a little bit about the war of words between Barack Obama and Elizabeth Warren over the TPP and the TPA the last several days but today there was an interesting little twist when Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown implied there might be a little sexism behind the President’s attack on the Massachusetts Senator.

  Here is more:

Democratic senator Sherrod Brown is subtly accusing President Barack Obama of sexism in his attacks on Senator Elizabeth Warren, also a Democrat.

“I think the president was disrespectful to her by the way he did that…made this more personal,” Brown told reporters.

“I think referring to her as her first name, when he might not have done that for a male senator, perhaps–I’ve said enough.”

The implication is clear and I have to say I agree with her–this sure seems sexist to me, especially since we have learned that calling Hillary Clinton by her first name is sexist. The precedent was set:

There’s Beyoncé and Madonna, Cher and Prince. And now Hillary.

It may not be exactly the same as the long list of celebrities known by their first names. But Hillary Clinton has become known simply as Hillary in bumper stickers and headlines, on Twitter and Facebook, around water coolers and in coffee shops.

Yet some Americans, mostly women, don’t think the former secretary of state, U.S. senator from New York and first lady should be called by just her first name.

“I think it’s pretty unjust,” said Monica Warek, 23, on a recent visit to Washington from New York City. “I think it shows the level of inequality that still exists in the workforce and just in general in society.”

Why cannot the President treat Senator Warren with the respect she deserves? But of course this isn’t the first time Barack Obama has been condescending to women, who can forget this one?

It’s official, Barack Obama is a sexist! Unless of course there is a double standard…

Her first name, Hillary, is appropriate. Simply referring to her as Bitch may lead to ambiguity since this could mean Boxer, Feinstein, Warren, Patton, Wasserman-Schultz, Pelosi, etc etc. The Bitch however would more than clear things up. As for warren fauxahontas is more than apt.
