Video: Rand Paul takes on the PATRIOT Act on the Senate floor

May 31, 2015

Rand Paul Today the Senate started a very rare Sunday session in order to stop certain provisions of the PATRIOT Act from sun setting and as you all know Rand Paul has vowed to “force the expiration of the NSA illegal spy program.”  Today he gave a five minute speech against the PATRIOT Act and the illegal NSA data-mining program which I thought I would share with my readers.

He made some great points, including reminding everybody that Barack Obama was against the PATRIOT Act before he was for it, but perhaps his best moment was when he asked “how can records be relevant to an investigation which hasn’t started?”

Rand Paul is the only one sticking up for the Constitution on this issue and for that people like CIA chief John Brennan, while not mentioning Rand Paul by name, have called this “political grandstanding and crusading for ideological causes that have really fueled the debate on this issue.”

Since when did standing up for the founding document and for the Fourth Amendment become “political grandstanding” and an “ideological cause?” This is an issue which should blur political lines and should be a concern of all American citizens and it is about time somebody stood up and tried to do something about this. All the selective Constitutionalists could learn something from Rand Paul.
