Martin O’Malley blasts Hillary Clinton for flip-flopping on Obamatrade

  Hillary Clinton faced a conundrum: despite union opposition to Obamatrade she had supported it some 40-something times in the past. In addition to putting her at odds with the Democrats’ largest special interest group this put her at odds with her two main rivals, Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders, and so she did what any self-serving and self-respecting politician facing falling poll numbers would do–she flip-flopped on the issue.

  It kind of reminds me of John Kerry’s I-voted-for-the-funding-before-I-voted-against-it moment.

  Here is what she had to say about Obamatrade earlier today:

“As of today, I am not in favor of what I have learned about it,” Clinton said. “I don’t believe it’s going to meet the high bar I have set.”

  You will note she said “as of today” she opposes the deal and while this leaves open the possibility that she could support the deal in the future I think it is more likely she was inadvertently admitting that before today she supported the deal and this was an attempt to distance herself from her previous position of support by claiming the deal did not live up to her expectations. 

  This sudden change of heart was not lost on Martin O’Malley, here is what he had to say about the former Secretary of State’s flip-flop:

“Wow! That’s a reversal!” O’Malley said in a statement. “Secretary Clinton can justify her own reversal of opinion on this, but I didn’t have one opinion eight months ago and switch that opinion on the eve of debates.”

  He called her out for the politically motivated chameleon that she is but the question is, will the voters even care that she will say and do whatever it takes to get elected depending on the circumstances she finds herself in? If she holds one position one day and another position on a different day how can the voters trust her and how can they know where she really stands on any given issue?
