Republican establishment looks to recruit Mitt Romney

November 13, 2015

mittromney2-460x307 It is no secret that the Republican establishment want no part of either a Donald Trump or Ben Carson candidacy for President, preferring of course one of their own candidates–in particular Jeb Bush. It is also no secret that the establishment Republicans seriously have misjudged the results of the previous two mid-term elections. Instead of taking the message sent to them by the conservative voters in those two elections they instead tried to mold the conservative winners into the same type of politicians the voters rejected.

John Boehner is a perfect example of this: instead of listening to what the voters wanted he punished the conservative members of House leadership who tried to listen to the will of the voters. That ended up being his downfall so you would think that might be what finally opened the eyes of the Republican establishment but apparently it has not.

Donald Trump and Ben Carson appear to have staying power and if so it goes to show you how deeply the anti-establishment sentiment is running throughout the voters in the Republican primary. So what is the Republican establishment’s response? Find another establishment candidate who might fare better than the ones already in the race.

Some are seeking to draft Mitt Romney.

According to other Republicans, some in the party establishment are so desperate to change the dynamic that they are talking anew about drafting Romney — despite his insistence that he will not run again. Friends have mapped out a strategy for a late entry to pick up delegates and vie for the nomination in a convention fight, according to the Republicans who were briefed on the talks

Yeah, you read that right–Mitt Romney. Somebody is going to have to explain to me how a two-time Presidential loser has any chance of not only beating either Donald Trump or Ben Carson but also Hillary Clinton. And considering he does not even want to run, how energetic will his campaign be and will his heart even be in it?

It appears to me that all this would do would be to splinter the anti-Trump/Carson vote even more, but it looks as if the strategy is to get to the convention and then wrest the nomination away from the candidate who received the most delegates. In  my opinion that would be akin to John Boehner punishing conservatives ten-fold. The results of this would be obvious–the conservative voters would take this as one last affront by the establishment and would stay home, thereby guaranteeing Hillary Clinton as the next President. It is clear the establishment is not thinking clearly and have not been for a long time, otherwise they wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place.

An contraire. The establishment RINO’s are merely seeking to hold up their end of the bargain in ensuring Tons of Fun is the next president. Karl Rove and company have made back room deals we can only speculate upon.

I would not be surprised in the least if that is the case, the melding of the two parties is almost complete.

I would vote for Romney over Clinton but that really is not saying much, if anything.
