New Hampshire governor says no to Syrian refugees

November 16, 2015

There is a growing list of governors who are rebuking Barack Obama’s plan to bring in thousands of Syrian refugees since the terrorist attack in Paris, saying they will not allow them to be relocated in their states. But none is more surprising to me than New Hampshire.

New Hampshire’s Democratic governor, Maggie Hassan, has indicated that she believes Barack Obama should halt his plan to bring Syrian refugees into the United States. Here is more:

“The Governor believes the federal government should halt acceptance of refugees from Syria until intelligence and defense officials can assure that the process for vetting all refugees, including those from Syria, is as strong as possible to ensure the safety of the American people,” a statement read.

WMUR reported, “The governor said she and state emergency management officials are working with Homeland Security officials, the FBI and local police departments in taking necessary precautions to protect the safety of New Hampshire residents.”

Of course this could just be politically motivated: Maggie Hassan has nothing to lose and everything to gain because she is not running for reelection as governor but has decided instead to run for the United States Senate and will take on Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte in 2016.

She will be taking on a very weak Republican incumbent who has voted with the Democrats 60% of the time and she has made the political calculation that this could be an issue she can neutralize her opponent on at a time when people are questioning Barack Obama’s policy.

    Good for her.
But, Bari isn’t into ‘our safety’ only his own and getting his portion of the pie from this ‘once again’ another NWO related staged event. Sick perverts – just stating fact.

And he doubled down today in the face of criticism, he is not going to let anything or anyone get in the way of his agenda and his agenda has nothing to do with our safety.

This may be another nail in the states tights coffin should the states back down when the feds sue them claiming the states have no right to deny civil rights to refugees, vetted or not. In spite of the lying Ben Rhodes claim to the contrary there is no process in place to vet Syrians where there are no records. Hopefully unlike our Roman senate the states will defy the emperor.

I am sure the states will be sued by the Federal government and I am also sure many of them will back down rather than fight. It is going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I think the question does the states have the right to refuse? I don’t know of any precident that would indicate either way. I suspect that it isn’t because the Constitution gives that power to the federal government (where is Congress in all of this?).

Good questions, I am sure the Feds will sue the states if it comes down to that and it will be interesting to watch it play out.

I was disappointed to hear this. However, Senator Jeanne Shaheen thinks they should come. I am with Jeanne. Also true, while states make their feelings known, it really is not their decision to make. I think New Hampshire could really benefit from a little diversity. I think NH should remember they were once settlers, refugees, and many in the beginning sat on a ship, starving until the Native Americans helped them.

Benefit from diversity? You should move to Maine a state rife with diversity, where you can work out your liberal, bleeding heart, ignorant tendencies with the Somalians invaders. I’ll take a shot in the dark here and assume you voted for Ole floppy darts twice.

Diversity is here in Illinois and all it has done is bankrupt our state. Why is it my problem to take care of all the “refugees” as they are now called? We have been over run with those “refugees” from south of the border and we are being taxed to death and it is going to go up again. It is bad enough we have illegals coming across the border without stopping them, thanks to our PRESIDENT, but now they change the name on us and because of that I have to have compassion? What about the Arab countries that will NOT take them? Do you see something wrong there? I do not have that extra money, but since we still pay taxes, they hit US up. I wish someone would give US free phones and free rent and free food and power and on and on and on….so NO, Diversity is not what I wish upon anyone for the reasons I have just stated!
