A group of Republicans plot to nominate Mitt Romney at a brokered convention

December 12, 2015

It is no secret that the Republican establishment hates, and I do not use that term lightly, Donald Trump. It is also no secret that there is a movement afoot to nominate Mitt Romney once again. And with reports circulating that the establishment is preparing for a brokered convention in which they can screw the voters out of the candidate they prefer (and make no mistake about it, I do not support Donald Trump) it appears as if these two stories are about to converge.

It is being reported here that a group of Mitt Romney’s supporters are preparing to wrest the nomination away from Donald Trump at a brokered convention, here is more:

With Donald Trump’s ruinous domination of the Republican primary polls showing no signs of abating, top leaders in the GOP are reportedly now preparing for the possibility of a contentious brokered convention next year in Cleveland. If that happens, a small group of wealthy donors and die-hard loyalists close to Mitt Romney will be ready with a strategy to win him the nomination from the convention floor…

Last month, the Washington Post noted, in a story about the Trump panic consuming the GOP establishment, that friends of Romney had “mapped out a strategy for a late entry to pick up delegates and vie for the nomination in a convention fight, according to the Republicans who were briefed on the talks.” The details of the plan were not included.

In recent months, Romney loyalists have told me (on condition of anonymity) that Trump’s rise has added urgency to their strategizing. One former Romney fundraiser said he was in contact with several serious 2012 donors and fundraisers — particularly wealthy Mormons and people in private equity — who were “keeping their powder dry” in hopes that Mitt would enter the race.

Of course Mitt Romney has been adamant about being not interested in another run for the Presidency but if he can be convinced that his running would be best for the country by his supporters I suppose all bets are off.

Mitt Romney is a two-time loser, once in the primary and once in the general, and yet those who support him believe this time it will be different. They would say the third time is a charm while I would remind them that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it…

If this attempt is successful I say good luck with that. There is no better way, in my opinion, to alienate the voters you need to win than to screw them out of the candidate they want to see nominated. The conservative voters will stay home, probably in greater numbers than in 2012, and in addition to the possibility of losing the Senate the Republicans run the risk of losing the House under this scenario and in all honesty I have to say they will deserve it if this scenario plays out because at this point it seems they would rather lose with an establishment candidate they support than win with a candidate they do not support.

Romney wasn’t wanted as the nominee by the voters in 2011 but we were stuck with him then, and he took a dive in the last debate. The GOP sees him as their savior? REALLY!
I’d follow him on the trail just to ask him why he took the dive.

THE GOP HAD BETTER KEEP THEIR HANDS OFF THE ELECTION. THEY STILL DON’T GET IT. WE’RE SICK OF THEM. WE’RE SICK OF THE DOUBLE DEALING, WE’RE SICK OF THEM DOING OBAMA’S BIDDING WHEN THEY TELL US THEY WON’T. WE’RE SICK OF THE MONEY THEY ACCEPT AND SHOULDN’T.

You are right; the GOP just does not get it. They misread every single election result no matter whether they win or lose and at some point you would think they would learn but they do not. We did not want Romney but he was the chosen one so that is who we got.

ROMNEY WAS GIVEN TO US BY ROVE LAST TIME AROUND. KNEW HE WASN’T RIGHT FOR THE JOB – WHAT WITH CALLING OBAMA 8 TIMES TO TELL HIM TO DO SINGLE PAYER ENACTING ROMNEYCARE, AND THEN TAKING A DIVE IN THE LAST DEBATE. NOTHING HAS CHANGED, NO ONE WANTS HIM EXCEPT THOSE IN THE GOP WHO ARE IMPRESSED WITH HIS MONEY. IF THEY TRY TO PUT ROMNEY UP AS THE NOMINEE, THEY WILL BE HANDING THE ELECTION TO HILLARY. THERE’S NO ONE THAT WANTED OBAMA TO HAVE A 2ND TERM – EXCEPT ROMNEY AND THE LEFT. WE DON’T KNOW HOW THEY GOT HIM TO TAKE THE DIVE, WE DO KNOW HE TOOK A DIVE.

THE GOP NEEDS TO KEEP ITS HANDS OFF THE ELECTION. THEY SHOULD REALIZE THAT WE ARE FED UP WITH THEM, WITH THEIR LIES, DOUBLE DEALING, ETC.

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE PEOPLE’S ELECTION OR THERE WON’T BE A REPUBLICAN PARTY ANYMORE!

BTW: I’M NOT FOR TRUMP! I’M NOT FOR TRUMP JUST AS MUCH AS I’M NOT FOR A RIGGED ELECTION!

TELL THAT TO THE POWERS THAT BE.

AND TELL PAUL RYAN TO KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT & NOT INTERFERE IN THE ELECTION.

ALL OF THE ELECTED OFFICIALS WHO STOOD UP FOR MUSLIMS MUST BE ON THEIR PAYROLL.

    AMERICANS ARE SICK OF IT.

Romney was so good in that first debate but that was the high point of the election for him, it was all downhill after that. Especially when Candy Crowley jumped in and helped to save Obama. Romney never recovered from that.

In a sane world a petition would be created and circulated nationwide signed by those of us on the right demanding that Trump not be screwed out of the nomination if he wins it fair and square and if he is denied then we, the millions of signatories, will boycott the election, stay home and watch the slaughter and end of the republican party on our flat screens. But again we along with the petition would be ignored by the elites since the Karl Roves of the party would continue to spit on us.

I think that is exactly what is going to happen if Trump is screwed out of it but perhaps they need to see a petition to believe it. I don’t know if they will get it even then because they think we will have no choice but to vote for whomever they throw in front of us, when will they ever learn?

Romney had his chance and he did not fight back when we saw all the states that were going to him all of a sudden get a “vote dump” at the last minute and go to Obama. Ever wonder why Obama was not sweating it back then? He knew the fix was in and he did not have to worry about it. Now fast forward to when thing are not going his way now…he throws a hissy fit….so i KNOW the fix was in back then, he is just not that calm!

If the Republicans do this to another fellow Republican, in my estimation they are DONE!
I will not vote for another one of them and will become an Independent/Libertarian. There is only so much a party can do to those that support them and I think they have shown their true colors and they are really not any different than the Democrats are, save for a handful of them. Those few are up against a brick wall and will not win. Sad to think the party will fall apart over something like not having their anointed one be the top choice of the people. But, I guess they have an agenda and Trump, Republican or not is not the RIGHT Republican for THEM, Guess they forgot to ask us what WE want, huh?
