Bernie Sanders claims nominating Hillary Clinton would be a ‘disaster’
Another primary contest has come and gone and with it came yet another Bernie Sanders victory over Hillary Clinton. According to this story after winning West Virginia yesterday the Sanders campaign sent out an email that warned Democratic voters that nominating Hillary Clinton would be a “disaster” because he polls better against the billionaire businessman than does the former Secretary of State.
Here is more:
Sen. Bernard Sanders‘ campaign said Wednesday the Democratic Party would be courting “disaster” if it nominates Hillary Clinton as its presidential nominee.
In a fundraising email to supporters, Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver cited recent polls showing the Vermont senator performing better against Republican Donald Trump in general election match-ups. Recent surveys have shown Mrs. Clinton virtually tied with Mr. Trump in the key battleground states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida.
Citing those troubling figures, Mr. Weaver said the Democratic Party — and its superdelegates who are free to support either candidate — must reject Mrs. Clinton and embrace Mr. Sanders, or face a crushing defeat in November.
Despite racking up win after win in the primary season the Senator from Vermont trails Hillary Clinton by a wide margin due to the Democratic elitists and their use of the superdelegates and now the Sanders campaign is actively trying to get the superdelegates to change their votes at a brokered convention.
“For months, Bernie Sanders has out-polled Hillary Clinton against Donald Trump, and often by extraordinarily large margins. Because we must do everything we can to defeat Trump in November, our mission is to win as many pledged delegates as we can between now and June 14,” when the primary season ends, Mr. Weaver said. “Then we’re going to have a contested convention where the Democratic Party must decide if they want the candidate with the momentum who is best positioned to beat Trump, or if they are willing to roll the dice and court disaster simply to protect the status quo for the political and financial establishment of this country.”
What I find most interesting about this election cycle is how wrong the pundits have been and I think the reason they have been so wrong is because instead of honestly reporting on the election they have been using their bias to influence the outcome of the election and it has not worked.
The pundits claimed that with such a crowded Republican field the campaign would get nasty and the infighting would lead to a brokered convention and this would in turn destroy the Republican party and ensure Hillary Clinton was the next President of the United States.
And speaking of Hillary Clinton: these same pundits believed that Hillary Clinton had no real opposition in the primary and they treated this as more of a coronation than a contest. Hillary Clinton’s easy victory, coupled with the Republican infighting and division, was supposed to give Hillary Clinton a landslide victory in the general election in November.
But they got it backwards. Yes, the Republican primary was nasty and contentious but it is over and Donald Trump is the nominee and there will be no brokered convention, while the infighting in the Democratic primary has left the pundits wondering what is wrong with Hillary Clinton that she cannot seal the deal despite the primary being rigged in her favor. As all of this is going on Bernie Sanders refuses to back down and is still hoping the Democratic convention will be brokered.
I have to admit that I have found it very entertaining to watch Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party struggle to the finish line…
