Harry Reid defends his ‘fake news’ story about Mitt Romney’s taxes: ‘I did what was necessary’

December 21, 2016

“Fake news” is in the news quite a bit in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s defeat, so much so that Facebook is going to use a bunch of left-leaning fact-checkers to flag news it deems to be questionable. But “fake news” is not new to elections; we all remember when Harry Reid made up a story about how Mitt Romney did not pay any taxes several years ago. You may also remember that he defended it back then by saying it was up to Mitt Romney to prove him wrong–in other words Mitt Romney was guilty until proven innocent.

Today Harry Reid was called out by a reporter who basically asked if he was responsible for the rise in “fake news” because the “brazen lie” he made up about Mitt Romney, here is how he responded:

[T]here were no brazen lies. What I said is the truth. Mitt Romney refused, and has still refused to release his tax returns. … I did what was necessary.

Did you notice how he changed the narrative? He said it was the truth that Mitt Romney refused to release his tax returns and he is right about that, however the question was about his claim that Mitt Romney did not pay taxes and as far as we know that is not the truth. A subtle little diversion which was not followed up on.

So when somebody like Harry Reid makes up a story it is not “fake news” but rather “doing what was necessary.” In other words anything goes when it comes to stopping a Republican. I wonder if the pizzagate guy can use the same excuse because I am sure he thought he was doing what was necessary…

It’s all necessary when it’s bringing the other guy down. And it’s for the good of the children Steve, don’t you know THAT! “How dark is their darkness …” VERY. A dark cesspool of lies and liars. “Fake News” = any news that sheds a bit of truth on the subject.

Too bad Mittens hadn’t the wherewithal to bring up Harry “Cyclops” Reid’s present and past corruption. A good offense would have been a good defense. But by then Candy Crowley had already handed the election to Obama.

Yeah, he curled up in the fetal position. Perhaps this was a sign of what he would have done as President and I think it is a sign of what he would have done if Trump made him Secretary of State.

    OTOTOT:
This is going to be off topic today. We have been getting ready to head south to be with my Son and his family for a few days. The older I get, when I think about what I want for Christmas, I think really nothing in the way of things. I was sitting and looking at the tree I had put up, that the kittahs will surely take down while we are gone….there are people that did not make it thru this year and the end of last year that I miss terribly. If I had something I could ask for, it would be to see these friends and family members for just a bit longer. I remember growing up, with the extended family for Holidays at my Grandparents….3 generations that all got along and all listened to each other…no one had their heads in a Kindle or just waiting til they could leave….we enjoyed each others company. For one more time I would love to smell my Grand-dads cherry-vanilla pipe tobacco or have a few more years with MY Grandmother that was gone before I turned 6. I look at my daughter and think she had hers til she was in her later 30’s and wonder how much she appreciated that fact. I remember all the dinners around the big pedestal table that I now have in my kitchen, it will be 100 years old in 2020, the same age my Mom would have been if she was still living. To think that so many of the family ate around that table and did homework on it and set up trains on it, well, it has alot of good memories for me and it is priceless! I have other pieces of furniture that have belonged to parents/grandparents/great-grandparents and those are all nice to have, but to be able to sit, at MY ripe old age and discuss real things with all of them, as an adult, would be wonderful.
As I said, we are headed south, the Grandsons are 3 1/2 and almost 7, good ages….my husband will play Santa and has taken up a passion for magic tricks, so he is “Magic Papa”….the boys enjoy it, but I secretly think it is him that enjoys it the most. No, there is so little that I really need in the way of “things”, I just hope we can get thru a year without any more losses, but that will probably not happen. That is part of life, yes, death is part of life. Christmas has become so commercialized that I hope most take even a few minutes to think of what the real meaning of CHRISTmas is. I hope for everyone here on the blog that I have come to think of as extended family/friends have a wonderful Christmas and stay safe….
    MERRY CHRISTMAS!
    Lou
