Paul Ryan pulls Obamacare replacement bill off the table again

April 28, 2017

It looked like the Republican-led house reached a possible breakthrough on the faux-Obamacare repeal legislation when Mark Meadows and Tom MacArthur reached an agreement and the Freedom Caucus endorsed the latest legislationBut it was not to be and today Paul Ryan was forced to once again withdraw the legislation in shame.

Donald Trump desperately wanted this legislation to pass so he could sign it during his first 100 days. Personally I find this artificial 100 days deadline to be silly. Sure it is okay to look back a few months into a new Presidency to see how he is doing and what he has accomplished but this administration has put too much emphasis on it. Part of that is due to Donald Trump’s own feeling of self-worthiness and his longing to show his nay-sayers that they were wrong…

But speed is not what is important here (and it should be remembered the Founders set up the Congress to purposely ensure legislation was not rushed) what is important is getting the legislation right.

If the Republicans were interested in speedily repealing Obamacare they had almost eight years to prepare legislation which could be signed on day one and they did not because they had no plan. I think part of the reason they had no plan is because they assumed Hillary Clinton would be the next President, they passed dozens of outright repeal bills when there was no chance of repeal but when the opportunity knocked at the door the Republicans were left with nothing to offer the President. If we are to judge anybody on the first 100 days it should be the Congress and they deserve an “F.”

Now that this artificial deadline is going to pass without any Obamacare repeal legislation it is time for the Republicans to slow down, start again from scratch, and get the legislation right.

Complaining and criticizing are easy as is passing legislation that you know will see the light of day. Governing is hard. They had 6 years to come up with a plan and they squandered that opportunity. I’m thinking that they don’t want to have happen to them what happened to the Democrats 6 years ago. The thing is that to do what they want is going to require the same level of sacrifice and the question is do they have the principles?

If they keep going the way they are going right now they probably will have what happened six years ago to the Democrats happen to them.

Keep in mind during those six years Obamacare continued to ensnare Medicare and Medicaid rules and regs as well. At any point in these six years whatever was the perfect repeal bill would have had to be changed to deal with the changes that happened on almost a daily basis. I had to read the Federal Register each and every day. Let me assure you at least once a week some major rule was promulated- or I should say a 60 days notice for comment given, then in sixty days the “Rute” became the law of the land. All of this must be undone.I suggest the perfect bill would have to be a thousand page bill to deal with the thousands of pages of rules made so hospitals and doctors can be reimbursed.

The best way to deal with it is just ignore Obamacare for now and permit additional insurance be made available via the States. But they better get Docs and Hospitals involved in the writing and now, Not politicians.

White Paper on Repeal/Replacement of the Affordable Care Act

The rotting structure comprises Medicare and Medicaid as well as ObamaCare. All are based on the concept of legal plunder, or forcible redistribution of wealth from those who own it to those to whom it does not belong.

People who want to be out of the supposedly voluntary Medicare program can simply be released immediately. Such action could be taken by the Trump Administration or Congress, or both.

I think Obamacare is so well entrenched at this point that they are never going to be able to just throw it out the window. They are going to have to tweak it a little at a time.

I just wish the media would take a bit of time to try and make an effort to understand the problems of it. There is no one who wants it repealed more than me, but it could end up destroying the GOP as well as healthcare.

Of course the media is not going to report about the problems because they are too interested in protecting Obama and taking down Trump. The stories are already being written in case it is repealed and unless the Republicans get this right and the results are irrefutable the media will make sure this takes the Republicans down.

Nicely stated Bunker. I was thinking too that some of them must be getting some ‘support’ funds of some kind for keeping it in place. Greed is never full or satisfied (for long). Instead of ‘repealing’ it replacing it might be the ticket. Keep only what’s sane [and that not in the definition of the ‘insane’ who contort word meaning for their own gains].
      {You came to mind yesterday while driving by the bunker field that store old bombs and ammo. There’s a dirt mound that has tripled in size recently – where they pile dirt that’s been dug up and out to make more storage bunkers or ‘something’ underground. That’s a bit disconcerting, because not all who order these things are Pro God, Family and Country!}

There are a couple of provisions in Obamacare which are popular–the preexisting conditions and the under 26 clauses–and to date the Republicans are keeping these in place. It it time to step back and come up with a plan moving forward, there is no rush now that the 100 days are over.

    Also from the AAPS

What to Do If You Are Uninsured

    There are many possibilities:

Join a health-sharing ministry.[ currently allowed in the ACA]
Join a direct primary care or membership-model practice. [currently allowed in the ACA]
Join a “Wedge of Health Freedom” practice (jointhewedge.com) or other independent practice that receives direct pay from patients and is free to negotiate terms without third-party interference.
Increase medical coverage on your auto insurance.
    Check into critical illness coverage.
Deposit the premiums you would have paid into a dedicated savings instrument.
Look into medical tourism for elective procedures, many of them within the U.S. (one idea is Medi-Bid.com). Research prices. The website http://www.surgerycenterok.com is a model; there may soon be many imitators. SmartChoice MRI, for example, advertises “no MRI for more than $600.”
Ask for a cash price quote ahead of time—even if you have insurance, as you may be better off not using your insurance plan (and your pharmacist may be forbidden to tell you that).
Look for a self-funded plan (or start one for your business).

In the biz world it behooves one to be a mover & shaker. I read that Pres. Trump did say this ‘job was harder than he thought it would be!’ I’m sure. Different kind of shark fight. Plus having to be a Sanitation Engineer first and foremost, while conducting other matters and duties. He’s done more in under 100 days than “The Fraud” did in all his ‘sitting’/golfing service to this Countrybur-ack(belch) par-don me is still ‘filling the air’ today and being paid 400k by insane fiends.
Here’s Lou take on Trump’s accomplishes to date:

Thanks for sharing that! He has accomplished more than it seems to me, and he would have been more successful if it was not for Ryan and the establishment Republicans. Dobbs is right about the Congress!
