Donald Trump calls on the Senate to use the nuclear option to pass healthcare and tax reform
The filibuster has been gradually weakened since 2013 when Harry Reid invoked the so-called nuclear option to get some of Barack Obama’s judicial nominees and cabinet appointees confirmed, it was further weakened when the Republicans invoked the nuclear option to confirm Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
Mitch McConnell vowed at that time not to do away with the filibuster for legislation but I think we know that once the wheels were set in motion eventually this would happen. But now Donald Trump is calling on the Senate to do just that in order to pass healthcare and tax reform. Here is more:
President Donald Trump called on the Senate on Tuesday to do away with its legislative filibuster, a move he said would enable the body to pass two pieces of legislation in order to dodge the 60-vote threshold.
“The U.S. Senate should switch to 51 votes, immediately, and get Healthcare and TAX CUTS approved, fast and easy. Dems would do it, no doubt!” Trump wrote on Twitter Tuesday morning
As the article linked to above states, this is not necessary because the Senate is likely to use the reconciliation process to pass these two pieces of legislation with a simple majority anyway.
The Republicans had threatened to use the nuclear option while George Bush was President but they never followed through on it, it was Harry Reid and the Democrats who opened up these floodgates and at some point in time I do believe the nuclear option will be used to pass legislation–if it does not happen under Republican leadership it will happen with Democratic leadership.
When Harry Reid invoked the nuclear option he said Republicans should thank him–and I think they are now–because it would benefit them if they ever regain power, but of course he did not think the ever would and now people like Chuck Schumer regret that decision.
malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium
This whole sixty vote thing is a relatively recent concept as I recall. It was a rare occurrence to have the filibuster happen. I recall years ago that one would go on for a week or so. Now there are limits to it. I have yet to find anything on it, but unless my memory fails me, this is a new thing and perhaps a simple majority is the road to go.

P.S. The House is already a simple majority.

It has been around for quite awhile now but it is a Senate rule and rules can be changed. It is funny how it is called the nuclear option when Republicans use it but when the Democrats used it they called it the constitutional option.

Oh Steve, there you go again, pointing out the ‘bizarre’ Dem*s foibles. No wonder they’re so into “tolerance” (Def: tolerate each other’s little foibles). Problem is, it’s all one-sided ~ theirs ONLY! They promote ‘imperfection, flaws, blemishes’ and point their fingers at those who stand for the opposite, as though they are the tormentors – distorting the truth. [Even the crazy man infested (possessed) by ‘the Legion’ at the tombs, was able to run to Truth for help. Mark 5:5]

I hope Senate enacts this ‘Sanity Ruling’. There’s so many decisions made that the corrupt push thru, that don’t go thru anyone but themselves or their own little black hooded spirit-circle (I’m not kidding). If one doesn’t stand for God’s Truth what are they standing or sitting on? Everything has a base.
Those who haven’t been ‘perversely bent’ by the mindset of corruption can distinguish ‘friend from foe’. More ‘friends’ less cancerous foes!
Can we ask the “Lord for help, to intervene?” [as He says we can Phil 4:6 to those who believe ‘in Him’] – to open the ears and eyes of understanding of those governing – to free those under the influence of demonic reign. God ‘can’ Bless America! but those in America need to want Him (by nature man doesn’t – interferes w/ ‘be your own god’!). The Lord of Life does bless and can give liberty to the enslaved: spiritually blinded and made dumb by the Liar.
‘Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.’ John 20:29

What was I thinking!? 🙂 Yes you can find the truth but you have to want to find it and sadly these people might not even understand what the truth is at this point. If they do understand it they have no interest in it because they have sold out and only care about power and money.
