Sunday, June 18th open thread: ‘Hypnotize’

June 18, 2017

open-thread  Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers out there! Here is the open thread for Sunday, June 11th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

Last week  we discussed 7 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!

System of a Down is a strange band whose songs usually include multiple tempo changes and unusual vocals. Most people either love this band or hate them. Me, I am in the middle. I am not really a fan but when one of their songs comes on the radio I usually listen to it.

The song I have chosen to share this week is called “Hypnotize” but I am not sure what year this video is from. At first listening the song seems to start off with a message before veering off into nothingness. It begins with lyrics about Tienanmen Square before going off course with lyrics about sitting in a car and waiting for a girl.

But when you look at the lyrics it begins to make a little more sense and actually might explain the title. This song might be coming from two viewpoints–the first being the person listening to the news which is fabricated to hypnotize the public and the second being from someone who has been hypnotized into not caring about anything important.

  Here are the lyrics:

“Why don’t you ask the kids at Tiananmen square?
Was Fashion the reason why they were there?

They disguise it, Hypnotize it
Television made you buy it

I’m just sitting in my car and waiting for my…

She’s scared that I will take her away from there
Her dreams that her country left with no one there

Mezmerize the simple minded
Propaganda leaves us blinded

I’m just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl
I’m just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl

I’m just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl
I’m just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl”

But then again it could be about nothing and maybe I am reading too much into it. Listen and decide for yourselves:

Hey Steve, that ‘poll daddy.com’ link sure gets in there doesn’t it. “Surveys your way.

I am not sure what triggers (pun intended) the go daddy poll link. When I view comments using the worpress app on my phone every comment has a go daddy link but they don’t usually appear on the blog. I don’t get it.
