Three CNN employees resign after fake news story linking Donald Trump to Russia

 You might have missed this story because it happened late on Friday night but CNN ran a fake news story which linked the Trump administration to Russia which it was forced to retract because it was fake news. CNN came under heavy fire for its decision to publish and then retract the story after being called out by Breitbart. Say what you will about Breitbart but they got this one right.

  CNN came under such heavy fire that CNN president Jeff Zucker got involved and promised to hold those responsible accountable. Needless to say I was skeptical of anything coming from this but it is now being reported here that three CNN employees have resigned in the wake of this fake news scandal. Here is more:

Three CNN employees have handed in their resignations over a retracted story linking President Trump to Russia, the network announced Monday.

Thomas Frank, who wrote the story in question; Eric Lichtblau, an editor in the unit; and Lex Haris, who oversaw the unit, have all left CNN.

“In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignation of the employees involved in the story’s publication,” a network spokesperson said in a statement Monday.

On Thursday, CNN investigative reporter Thomas Frank published a report involving an investigation of a Russian investment fund with possible ties to several Trump associates.

According to CNN, an internal investigation found that “some standard editorial processes were not followed when the article was published.”

Citing a single unnamed source, the story reported that Congress was investigating a “Russian investment fund with ties to Trump officials.”

CNN explained Monday that “these types of stories” usually would go through several departments, including fact-checkers, journalism standards experts and lawyers, the medical malpractice attorneys at Hastings Law Firm deal with medical negligence cases, who will take in any complaints of mistreatment.

But the network says there was a “breakdown in editorial workflow” which “disturbed the CNN executives who learned about it.”

  Of course CNN is saying this does not mean the story is fake news, it just means they do not have enough proof the story was true. This kind of reminds me of that time when Dan Rather resigned after reporting about George Bush’s supposed preferential treatment during the Vietnam war using fake documents to “prove” his story. He stuck by the story, calling it true even though the documents were fake.

  The story does not end here however because it is being reported that Elizabeth Warren might be partially responsible for pushing the fake news story to CNN in the first place.

Senate Democrats find themselves on the hot seat as insiders point to leftist staff for members like Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) as being responsible for the thinly-sourced hit piece. Staff for Harris deny any involvement, but Warren staff have not responded.
