New Trump scandal! The President looked directly at the sun during the eclipse!

  Note: this is sarcasm while the original reporting is not. I should not have to explain that but I have learned the hard way on Facebook that I do.

 A new scandal is engulfing the White House which will certainly require a Congressional investigation or possibly an expansion of the suddenly silent Russia investigation! Despite the warnings given to the American people over the last week or so Donald Trump looked directly at the sun for a brief moment or two during the solar eclipse today, stop the presses–Donald Trump believes he is above the laws of nature!

  This is the headline NBC ran with today: “Total Eclipse: Trump Ignores Pleas of ‘Don’t Look!’ to Stare Directly at the Sun.” Here is more about this burgeoning scandal:

The one rule of Monday’s total solar eclipse was not to look at it without special glasses.

From a balcony at the White House, President Donald Trump did it his own way — marveling briefly a few times the astronomical phenomenon sans shades after using them for his initial viewing.

“Don’t look,” an aide shouted from the crowd below, in a failed attempt to remind the president not to look directly at the sun.

Meanwhile, across the country Americans donned eclipse-safe glasses while looking up at the sky.

  Not to be outdone CNN on its homepage had a link entitled “Trump broke the first rule of eclipse watching” which takes you to an article headlined “Yes, Donald Trump really did look into the sky during the solar eclipse.”

There’s literally only one rule with eclipses: Don’t look at the sun during them.

Which brings me to the President of the United States:

That’s Donald John Trump on the White House South Portico, seemingly looking directly into the sun. At the peak of the solar eclipse. Without any sort of protective eyewear on.

This, from the White House pool report of the moment filed by the Guardian’s Ben Jacobs is, um, amazing: “At approximately 2:39, the President initially gesticulated to the crowd below and pointed at the sky. As he did so, one of the White House aides standing beneath the Blue Room Balcony shouted ‘don’t look.'”
