Donald Trump to waive Federal laws in order to speed up border wall construction
Donald Trump is in the midst of an election year push to build the wall on the Mexican border hoping to appease the members of his base who do not think he has done enough on this issue.
Part of that strategy, according to this story, is to waive some Federal contracting laws to eliminate competitive bidding in order to expedite the process. Here is more:
The Trump administration said Tuesday that it is waiving federal contracting laws to speed construction of a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, moving the president closer to fulfilling a signature campaign promise in an election year but sparking criticism about potential for fraud, waste and abuse.
The Department of Homeland Security said waiving procurement regulations will allow 177 miles (283 kilometers) of wall to be built more quickly in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. The 10 waived laws include a requirement for open competition and giving losing bidders a chance to protest decisions.
The acting Homeland Security secretary, Chad Wolf, is exercising authority under a 2005 law that gives him sweeping powers to waive laws for building border barriers.
According to the quote above there is a law on the books which allows the President to waive these laws but we know that will not stop the left from taking this issue to court and eventually finding a sympathetic judge to order a stay.
The issue I have with this is that this eliminates sending the task out for bids to ensure the lowest cost possible to the taxpayer and as a fiscal conservative I find this precedent to be troubling.
malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium
It sets a bad precedent and no doubt will end up in a legal challenge… with of course the mandatory “injunction”… which will stop it in its tracks until its litigated.
But the guy keeps plugging along , no doubt he will say its a national emergency

You have to give him credit for still trying at this point, they have thrown everything against him and yet he still finds ways to try to get it done.

Waste is just a four letter word. Waste is the operative word in any government project so what’s the big deal? But not to worry since the left as usual will use the system to stop in its tracks anything including the border wall anything not on its agenda.

Yup, waste is one of those things that nobody really cares about. The politicians just want to be the ones in control of where they waste the money and the people only pay lip service to waste when the other side is in power.

Good, the quicker the better. And getting rid of all the Globalist rules and regs would help alot too (in every avenue of life! … plus those agencies the staged 911 (demolition) event brought into being.

yeah, we can’t get rid of the regs that covered muslims crashing planes into buildings.
because there aren’t any.

I agree, way too many laws on the books nowadays!

I keep saying…authorize the army combat engineers and the USN seabees to build the wall. the air force judges the construction quality. start each group on either end of the wall and have a race. daily bonuses for the team with the most yardage per day, a full month’s pay on top of a months leave for the team that does the most by the time it’s finished.
there is precedent…the alaska-canada highway was done in this manner.
done like this, I give it 6 months and we’re done, at 10% of the cost we’re paying now.
oh, and let each construction team provide their own security, with full authority to shoot anyone trying to stop them.

That seems like the easiest way to get the job done, I wonder why he has not looked at that?

there is a military regulation that forbids the seabees from building things in the continental united states other than for training. I assume other combat engineers have the same restrictions.

In NYC’s Central Park is the Wohlman Skating Rink. Some years ago it fell into disrepair. The city spent 14 years trying to refurbish it and finally gave up. Trump’s company did the job in two months.
We can build 50 story buildings with five sub-basements drilling through granitic extrusions in no time but putting up a wall which first requires penetrating the leftist bureaucracy will take longer than it took to fight The Hundred Years war.
What we should have done was sell the land to the New York developer who owned the land the World Trade Center stood on, he would have paid off the politicians, put up the wall and then charged people $6 to look at it. Problem solved.
