Barack Obama amends Executive Order to quarantine Americans with respiratory illness

August 5, 2014

Before I get to the heart of this post I must warn my readers to affix their tinfoil hats firmly upon their heads.

Are you ready? Good, here we go…

As you all know by now two American aid workers who contracted Ebola while working in Africa have been flown back to the United States for treatment. This of course was the right thing to do and I do not think anyone will deny this.

However, since that time (and unrelated to the two aforementioned Americans) we have learned that at least six people have been tested for the disease in the United States.

MSNBC reporter says Barack Obama is from Kenya

August 5, 2014

I really do not have much of a fight in me tonight so I thought I would lighten it up a bit. During a segment on MSNBC earlier today about the African summit Chris Jansing stated that Barack Obama had an interest in the region because he is from Kenya.

Here is how it went down:

“The White House is clearly, I would assume, hoping this will be part of the president’s legacy, given his background,” Reid said.

“Yeah, the fact that he’s from Kenya,” Jansing replied breezily. “And the fact that when he was elected there were expectations on the African continent that he would do great things for them.”

FBI to hire firm to monitor news reports about the agency

August 4, 2014

According to this story the FBI has hired a firm to monitor and rate news stories which are run about the agency. Here is more:

The FBI is hiring a contractor to grade news stories about the agency as “positive” “neutral” or “negative,” but the agency won’t say why officials need the information or what they plan to do with it.

FBI officials wouldn’t even reveal how they will go about assigning the grades, which were laid out in a recent contract solicitation. The contract tells potential bidders to “use their judgment” in scoring news coverage as part of a new “daily news briefing” service the agency is seeking as part of a contract that could last up to five years.

As you can see above the FBI is not saying what the agency intends to do with this information. It could simply be an attempt to monitor opinion on the agency in order to use that information to improve public relations but could there be more to this? Could the FBI use this information to intimidate news outlets?

Barney Frank admits Barack Obama lied about Obamacare

August 3, 2014

Barney Frank

Barney Frank

During an interview with Huffington Post former Massachusetts Representative Barney Frank had some interesting things to say about Barack Obama and Obamacare.

We all know that Barack Obama told what has been deemed the lie of the year when he told everybody who would listen that under Obamacare “if you like your plan you can keep your plan” but now even Barney Frank is claiming he was “appalled” by this lie.

Here is what he had to say:

Open thread for Sunday, August 3rd: Everybody Knows

August 3, 2014

Here is the open thread for Sunday, August 3rd; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

As usual you can follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is going on in the world. You can also subscribe to receive email updates and if you do you will never miss a post again.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in near real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!?

I am changing it up a little bit with this week’s musical selection. Although I have used this song before I find some of the lyrics to be relevant to politics in America today so I give you Leonard Cohen performing ‘Everybody Knows.’ (I used a different video then the last time to change it up a little bit.)

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

New Hampshire GOP on the defensive after Scott Brown ad attacks Jeanne Shaheen on immigration reform

August 2, 2014

Scott Brown has been all over the radio and television airwaves here in New Hampshire with a new ad targeting Jeanne Shaneen and Barack Obama on illegal immigration.

  Here is the ad:

This ad is rather innocuous but it now has the New Hampshire GOP on the defensive because Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte has cast her lot with the McCainite faction of the Republican party on immigration reform,  so her position on this issue is not all that much different than that of Jeanne Shaheen’s or Barack Obama’s positions. Democrats were quick to point this out and the Republicans have been forced to counter.

Here is more on this story:

United Mine Workers of America President arrested while protesting Barack Obama’s energy policies

August 2, 2014

Last Thursday the President of the United Mine Workers of America, Cecil Roberts, and several others were arrested while protesting Barack Obama’s energy policies.

Of course it goes without saying but I will say it anyway; this union supported Barack Obama in his bid for the White House.

House passes bill to stop Barack Obama from using Executive action on amnesty…so what?

August 2, 2014

john-boehner-cryingAfter an embarrassing (but quite frankly, entertaining) week of watching John Boehner try to rally support behind a border bill–which has called into question the Speaker’s leadership ability once again–the House finally did something.

Last night, in a vote of 216 to 192, the House passed legislation which will prevent Barack Obama from using Executive action to expand the amnesty program he already set in motion with previous actions.

Now it is on to the Senate where it should easily pass and then it will head over to the President’s desk where he will immediate sign away power he feels is rightfully his and hand it over to the Republicans in the House as a show of great magnanimity. Oh, wait…that is not what is going to happen at all. In fact nothing will happen, this will not even come up for a vote in the Senate.

  So what is the point?

Rand Paul calls for John Brennan to be fired for spying on the Senate

August 1, 2014

Rand PaulDemocrats have been coming out of the woodwork since CIA Director John Brennan admitted the CIA was hacking into Senate computers, calling for resignations within the CIA for this abuse of power.

And they are correct to do so; this abuse of power cannot be tolerated and anybody who was responsible for, or complicit in, this scandal should either resign or be fired.

However, many of these same Democrats are not being consistent because they had no problem with Lois Lerner’s IRS targeting political opponents and they have no problem with the NSA spying on Americans, they only have a problem when they are the targets and so their outcry rings hollow on America’s Watchtower.

CIA admits to hacking Senate computers, Democrats demand resignations

August 1, 2014

The CIA and the Senate have been involved in a little spat in recent months: Dianne Feinstein accused the CIA of hacking into Senate Intelligence Committee computers back in March and the CIA countered by claiming the Senate was hacking their computers.

Well we still do not know if the CIA’s allegations are true or not but we do know now that Dianne Feinstein was correct because yesterday CIA Director John Brennan admitted (unbeknownst to him of course) the agency was spying on the Senate Intelligence Committee and has apologized for it.
