A few days off
The family and I are leaving for a long weekend vacation. We are headed to Gettysburg and I cannot wait to get there! The weather isn’t supposed to be very good on Saturday, but we will make the best of it. I probably will not be posting again until Monday, but you never know. 🙂

This day in history: President Lincoln shot
April 14th, 1865: General Lee had surrendered a few days earlier and while there were still pockets of fighting across the nation the Civil War was all but over. President Lincoln decided to engage in one of his great passions; attending the theater. As President Lincoln prepared for the night out with his wife, he reportedly said something to the effect of (I can’t remember the exact words, I apologize) “now maybe we can finally be happy.” That chance was never to come.
John Wilkes Booth managed to sneak up to the president and fire a single shot into the back of his head. Leaping from the presidential box and landing hard on the stage–breaking his leg–he shouted “Sic semper tyrannis” before escaping and leading federal authorities on a 12 day manhunt which culminated in his own death.
John Wilkes Booth’s original plan was not assassination, but rather to capture the president so that the south could use him as a bargaining chip to end the war, but with the surrender of Robert E Lee the plan was changed to include the assassination of three top government officials; Lincoln, Johnson, and Seward; hoping that this would throw the federal government into disarray and rally the south to continue fighting.
George Atzerodt was supposed to assassinate the vice president, but lost his nerve and went out drinking instead, while Seward suffered a vicious knife attack by Lewis Powell, but somehow managed to survive–although he never did fully recover.
The strong-willed president managed to cling to life until shortly before 7:30 AM on April 15th. Upon his death and after a prayer was said, Edwin Stanton declared “now he belongs to the ages.”
Did Joe Biden fall asleep during Barack Obama’s budget speech? That is the question that seems to be making its way around the blogosohere, so let us have a look at a picture of Joe Biden during the speech.
First, the look on tax cheat Timothy Geithner’s face is priceless; he certainly does not look pleased with the Vice President. Neither does the man sitting next to the most infamous tax cheat in the Obama regime.
Second, it certainly looks as if Joe Biden nodded of during Barack Obama’s speech. I cannot fault Joe Biden for this if he did indeed fall asleep during a Barack Obama speech as Barack Obama seems to have the same effect upon me, however a picture may not be an actual representation of an event, so let us look at a video for more insight:
Looking at that video, it appears for the most part as if the vice president’s head is in an upright position so it seems unlikely to me that he is actually sleeping, but rather he is zoning out–again, I don’t hold this against him for when I hear Barack Obama’s voice I tend to zone out also–he is probably thinking that he would rather be anywhere else than where he is.
So in conclusion, he is either sleeping or he is disengaged; either way it isn’t an indictment of Joe Biden, but rather an indictment of the president.
Back in 2006 the Congress voted on the issue of raising the debt ceiling and many Democrats voted against raising the ceiling in order to protest the reckless spending and policies of President Bush. As I wrote about here, the White House has already released a statement which says that Barack Obama regrets voting against raising the debt ceiling, and –now that Barack Obama is going to seek yet another raising of the debt ceiling–other Democrats are now starting to come out and claim they were wrong in 2006. Funny how that works.
Steny Hoyer is the latest Democrat to state that he was wrong in 2006 when he voted against raising the debt ceiling.
I have voted against the debt limit in the past. That was a mistake
I guess we should be happy that he can admit he made a mistake, but why is he doing it? Why the sudden change of heart? The answer is obvious; he is doing it for political reasons. He opposed raising the debt ceiling in 2006 because he claimed he opposed the “reckless spending” of the Bush administration, but yet he is for raising the debt ceiling now in order to continue the reckless spending of Barack Obama?
We can rest assured that if John McCain was president and we were about to debate this issue, Barack Obama, Steny Hoyer, and all of the other Democrats who voted against raising the debt ceiling in 2006 would be voting against raising the debt ceiling once again. But now that one of their own occupies the White House they no longer have a problem with spending more than they take in.
The Democrats are quickly losing any credibility they nay have had on this issue–and they didn’t have much to begin with.
So much for the mantras “elections have consequences,” and “I trump you on that,” because Nancy Pelosi has a different one that she wants us to live by; “elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do.”
You do remember those mantras, don’t you? Just in case you do not, let me refresh your memory: Shortly after being sworn in as Dear Leader, Barack Obama held a meeting with Republicans under the guise of working together to build bipartisanship, but the bipartisanship was to be short-lived because Barack Obama rejected the Republicans proposals using the above mantras.
Flush with the exhilaration of having won the White House, as well as a super majority in the Senate and the House, Barack Obama was in no mood to compromise; he felt as if the people had spoken and he felt as if the people had rejected the Republican policies. And who could blame him? He–and the Democrats–were riding high because, after all, elections have consequences and they were prepared to make full use of them to fundamentally change America.
But how times have changed and with the victories of last November the American people have rejected the policies of Barack Obama and the Democrats. Elections have consequences, right? And now it is time for the Democrats to compromise a little bit because the American people have spoken. This day in history: The Civil War begins
When President Lincoln took office seven states had already seceded and the Confederates held Fort Sumter in a siege and demanded the evacuation of Union troops from the fort. On April 12 1861 President Lincoln sent a note to the Confederates telling them that he was going to resupply the fort with food, but not with ammunition and he expected that the Confederates would allow the supply ship through.
Needless to say it does no good to hold a town or a fort in siege if you are simply going to allow the fort to be resupplied and President Lincoln knew this. He knew that the Confederates would fire on the ship and on the fort, but he also knew that at this point there was virtually no chance that war could be averted so he devised this plan in order to goad the south into firing the first shot. And that is exactly what they did–the Civil War had begun 150 years ago today.
During an interview on Monday, Donald Trump stated that if he does not win the Republican nomination he would probably run as an independent. It is my belief that it is going to be difficult to beat Barack Obama in 2012 even in his weakened position because it seems as if the Republican frontrunners are equally as weak, but this decision by Donald Trump will secure the re-election of Barack Obama.
This would be a horrible decision indeed as it will split the Republican vote, and it is hard to believe that many Democrats who are upset with Barack Obama would break ranks and vote for Donald Trump. Trump claims that he “hates what is happening to the country,” and if this is true I fail to see how he can possibly think that splitting the Republican vote in this pivotal election would do anything to correct what has been happening in this country during Barack Obama’s first term.
Donald Trump is injecting himself in this race for one reason and one reason only–Donald Trump:
“I’m not doing it for any other reason. I enjoy winning.”
It’s all about the Donald–and promoting his television show. Donald Trump is currently playing an important role in the upcoming presidential election–he is the attack dog of the Republican party, and I actually like what he is doing in this role. He is saying things and bringing up issues that no legitimate presidential candidate can touch. For this he is playing a valuable role. If he decides to actually run for president that is all well and good. But if he loses the Republican primary he should bow out gracefully and accept the will of the people. To do otherwise would be to ensure the very outcome he is looking to avoid.
It is my belief that Donald Trump is doing this to gain publicity for his new television show, but if he is serious about this he must sooner or later come to the realization that he runs a third party candidacy he will bring down the Republican party and send Barack Obama back to the White House.
White House spokesman claims that Barack Obama regrets voting against raising the debt ceiling in 2006
Back in 2006, while George Bush was still the president, the Congress began debating the issue of whether or not to raise the debt ceiling. Barack Obama opposed–and voted against–raising the debt ceiling. But now as the Congress prepares once again to debate raising the debt ceiling under Barack Obama’s watch he has had a sudden change of heart and is now admitting that he was wr-wr-wrong.
According to a White House spokesman:
Obama “thinks it was a mistake,” presidential spokesman Jay Carney told reporters. “He realizes now that raising the debt ceiling is so important to the health of this economy and the global economy that it is not a vote that, even when you are protesting an administration’s policies, you can play around with”
Of course protesting an administration’s policies is precisely what Barack Obama was doing in 2006, but now as president he feels as if this is not a proper way to protest an administration. How convenient is that? But Barack Obama did more than just vote against raising the debt ceiling as he actually took to the floor of the Senate to call into question President Bush’s leadership qualities.

Barack Obama says he misses being anonymous
During a recent interview for a magazine, Barack Obama claimed that while he loved life in the White House he misses being anonymous.
I just miss – I miss being anonymous
He went on to claim that he is not a golf addict–despite the fact that he seems to be at the golf course when pressing issues in Washington should be at the center of his attention–but only plays so much golf because security concerns prevent him from living a more normal life. Golf just gives him an escape that he cannot get anywhere else.
In an effort to console our beleaguered president let me assure him that he is not alone in feeling this way. I–and millions of other Americans–wish that he were still anonymous also.
