The White House sent Bill Clinton to offer Joe Sestak a job to drop out of the Pennsylvania primary
There is an old adage in politics that if you must admit bad news, you do it on a Friday so that it will miss all the weekday news cycles and hopefully the story will fade away before the next news cycles begin. The adage also says if the news is very damaging, if it is at all possible, you hold it until the Friday before a holiday, thus buying an additional 24 hours when nobody is paying attention.
Today the Obama regime followed that adage to a tee when they released the news that Rahm Emanuel sent Bill Clinton to Joe Sestak’s office with a job offer in return for his agreement to drop out of the Pennsylvania Democrat primary race. Of course they are still denying that the reason for the job offer was in return for Sestak agreeing to drop out of the race. But this does raise more questions than it answers about a possible federal crime having been committed by Rahm Emanuel and President Clinton– and possibly even Barack Obama himself. Surely Rahm Emanuel wouldn’t have moved forward with this scheme unbeknownst to the president, would he?
According to this update, the Obama regime is claiming that no federal crime was committed because the job offer to Joe Sestak was for an unpaid position.
The office of Robert F. Bauer, the White House counsel, has concluded that Mr. Emanuel’s proposal did not violate laws prohibiting government employees from promising employment as a reward for political activity because the position being offered was unpaid. The office also found other examples of presidents offering positions to political allies to achieve political aims.
I honestly do not know whether it makes a difference if the position was a paid position or not because the intent to affect an election was still made, and if Joe Sestak had accepted the job he would have dropped out of the race. The race could have and would have been affected by Joe Sestak’s acceptance whether the job was a paid position or not.
But for the sake of argument, let us say that a crime was not committed by offering Joe Sestak an unpaid job. If President Clinton was authorized to “feel out” Joe Sestak and offer him an unpaid position at the start of what the regime felt were negotiations, there is reason enough to believe that this unpaid position may not have been the final offer. Nobody who enters negotiations starts right up front with a final offer, I think that it is reasonable to assume that this was just the first offer, and if Joe Sestak wasn’t stupid enough to open his mouth there may have been a paid offer coming as negotiations continued. We have no idea how far Rahm Emanuel was willing to let President Clinton go in order to keep Joe Sestak out of the race. This is a question that needs to be answered under oath.
In a further update, Joe Sestak has confirmed that it was indeed President Clinton- acting at the behest of Rahm Emanuel, and presumably Barack Obama– that contacted him with the job offer, although he is now trying to downplay it.
We now have confirmation that contact did take place between the Obama regime and Joe Sestak. We also know that Joe Sestak had originally interpreted this contact as being a job offer in return for him agreeing to drop out of the race. And on top of that, we know the Obama regime is denying two things; first, that this offer was not an attempt to influence the outcome of an election; and second, that even if it was, it did not violate the law because the offer was for an unpaid position. The second denial leads us to question the legitimacy of the first denial. Why issue the second denial unless the regime felt that the first denial wouldn’t hold water?
And then there is the question, why did Rahm Emanuel send President Clinton on this task? If Barack Obama is the man that the Democrats believe is the savior, Bill Clinton is the man that Democrats consider to be the holy father. The fact that the regime would send in the most prominent Democrat to do its bidding shows us exactly how serious this administration was taking this issue, and how badly they wanted Joe Sestak out of the primary race.
As if all of the above weren’t enough, there are still the rumors that the Obama regime promised Arlen Specter a “clear field” in the Democrat party as an enticement for him to leave the Republican party. A rumor that both the Obama regime and Arlen Specter deny.
The fact remains that the Obama regime did contact Joe Sestak, and there are still too many unanswered questions– such as did Barack Obama promise Arlen Specter a “clear field” in the Pennsylvania Democrat primary– to just let this story fade away. We need to know the truth, especially now that we know there was contact between the two parties. Republicans need to keep up the pressure on Eric Holder to appoint a special prosecutor to this case. Will Rahm Emanuel, Barack Obama, Arlen Specter, Bill Clinton, and Joe Sestak be willing to testify under oath that no wrongdoing was committed?
Oh what difference a car accident can make!
Shortly after the Perry amendment– an amendment that would require immigrants to prove they were in the country legally before they were eligible for welfare–was defeated in Massachusetts, State Representative Moran (who voted against the Perry amendment) was hurt in a car accident that involved an illegal immigrant. And now today, out of the blue (pardon the pun), the Massachusetts senate easily passed a bill that was much tougher than the bill that the house voted down before the infamous car accident.
I am being just a little cynical here, it wasn’t just the car accident that prodded the Massachusetts senate to pass this bill, earlier this week a poll was released that showed even in one of the bluest states in America, 84% of residents favored requiring immigrants to prove they were here legally before they were able to collect welfare. I am sure this poll played into the senate vote just a little bit.
This vote comes just two weeks after the Boston city council voted to boycott Arizona for their new controversial immigration law.
According to the law the Massachusetts senate just passed:
would bar the state from doing business with any company found to break federal laws barring illegal immigrant hiring. It would also toughen penalties for creating or using fake identification documents, and explicitly deny in-state college tuition for illegal immigrants.
The amendment would also require the state’s public health insurance program to verify residency through the Department of Homeland Security, and would require the state to give legal residents priority for subsidized housing.
Verify residency? That sounds an awful lot like the Arizona law that the Boston city council voted to boycott not too long ago. This is a stunning turn of events when you consider that just last year Massachusetts was considering giving driver’s licences and in-state tuition to illegal aliens.
This bill still has a long way to go before it becomes law; the house has to pass this bill, and the governor has to sign it. the likelihood of this happening is next to zero. But it does provide us with some insight as to how people in the country feel towards illegal immigration and amnesty.
If the people of Massachusetts are so strongly opposed to these ideas that the Massachusetts senate would pass such a bill, that on most occasions they would have called a racist bill, it shows that the American people can still be heard once in awhile. This is why people all across America have got to call, write, and email their senators, representatives, governors, and even the president to voice displeasure at the notion of amnesty for illegal aliens.
On a side note– if Massachusetts ever did pass this legislation would the Boston city council vote to boycott Massachusetts?
It is good to see that Republicans are not willing to let the Joe Sestak scandal go unchallenged. While I still have my doubts about anything coming from this scandal, I also had my doubts about whether the Republicans would have to will power to see that this scandal receives the attention that it deserves.
My fears about the Republicans were assuaged somewhat yesterday when I learned that all Republicans– including RINO Lindsey Graham– on the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Rahm Emanuel asking him to appoint a special investigator to this case. But the fact is that Rahm Emanuel has no intention of appointing a special investigator, and while it still remains highly unlikely that anything will happen, the only chance that we have of this scandal being investigated is for Republicans to keep up the pressure on Rahm Emanuel and the Obama regime until they can no longer ignore these accusations.
Today Darrell Issa kept up the pressure on the Obama regime in an email titled “The Sestak Affair – Obama’s Watergate?” Here is some of what Darrell Issa had to say in his email:
Congressman Sestak has continued to repeat his story whenever asked without varying from the original version. The White House however has arrogantly and wrongly assumed that they can sweep this matter under the rug
Joe Sestak realized that he made a mistake by letting the cat out of the bag. It’s a mistake that might end his bid for U.S. Senate and damage President Barack Obama,” Issa continues. “He doesn’t want to make things worse than they are, so he’s sticking to his story to maintain his own credibility, but will not cooperate with investigators to bring charges against the guilty White House official.”If he’s telling the truth, an investigation must take place and justice must be served. If he’s lying, then he should immediately resign the race for Senate
And that is the crux of the issue, someone is not telling the truth and we need to know who it is. If Joe Sestak is lying he needs to resign from his senate bid, even if that means the deplorable Arlen Specter will be his replacement on the Democrat ballot, but if it is Barack Obama or someone else in his regime that is lying, the American people deserve to know what kind of people are “representing” us in the White House and the appropriate legal action must be taken.
Obama authorizes sending 1,200 troops to the Mexican border, but they will not enforce illegal immigration
Earlier this week, Barack Obama authorized sending an additional 1,200 troops to the Mexican border. Initially I was glad to hear the news, I would have liked to see even more troops heading to the border, but this is a start. However, I am not so enthusiastic about the National Guard being sent to the border any more because after reading this I have come to realize that this is not a real effort to help stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the country. As a matter of fact, the National Guard troops that are being sent to the border are not going there to enforce illegal immigration at all.
The State Department has confirmed that these guards will be used to stop guns and drugs from coming across the border. The State Department felt that it needed to make this distinction clear after Mexico urged the Obama regime not to use these troops to stop illegal immigration.
I am not saying that I have a problem with the National Guard being used to stop illegal guns and illegal drugs from entering the country, I think that this is also a necessary step, but just one step. After all, who are the people that are smuggling the guns and drugs into this country? Sure there will be some Americans involved, but the majority of the people doing the smuggling will be Mexicans entering the country illegally to deliver their contraband. Why shouldn’t the National Guard troops be able to arrest, detain, and deport those illegals that are bringing these guns and drugs into the country? It seems like common sense to me that the issue of illegal guns, illegal drugs, and illegal immigrants should go hand in hand. I do find it laughable that after a complaint by Barack Obama’s new buddy– Felipe Calderon– he quickly felt it necessary to make sure Mexico knew that he was still going to allow illegals to flow into America.
It seems evident to me that Barack Obama is sending these troops to the border in order to make it look as though he is taking the issue of illegal immigration seriously, when in fact he is not. It is also evident to me that he is using this “show of force” as a bargaining chip for the upcoming debate on comprehensive immigration reform. According to polls, a vast majority of Americans want to seal the border first, and then talk about what to do with the illegals that are already in the country. This now gives Obama what he feels is a starting point for the upcoming debate. When the opposition demands that the border be closed, Barack Obama can turn around and say that he has begun this process with the deployment of these troops. He will then ask what will be given up in return for this new effort on the border. But, as the Obama regime was forced to admit to the Mexican government, this deployment has nothing to do with illegal immigration. It is designed solely to make it appear as if he is cracking down on illegal immigration to the American people.
He is just hoping that the American people do not see this news for what it really is– a sham designed to help Barack Obama in his push for amnesty.
Recently I have been critical of Barack Obama and his regime for doing nothing as millions of gallons of oil continue to pour into the Gulf of Mexico. But now the president is doing something “with” the spill, if not “about” the spill.
While the oil washes ashore, sea life dies, fishermen lose their livelihood, and while Bobby Jindal pleads with Obama to do something– anything– the president has finally decided to do something– he has decided to use the oil spill to urge congress to pass climate change legislation.
The spill in the Gulf, which is just heartbreaking, only underscores the necessity of seeking alternative fuel sources,” Obama said after declaring climate change a “threat to our way of life” and calling on Congress to pass climate change bill “this year”
That’s right, he may not be doing anything to help stop the oil spill, but he has decided to use the oil spill to push cap and trade legislation. I guess I should look at the bright side, at least the president is doing something now– even if it is only pushing a radical leftist policy position.
We all know that Rahm Emanuel has stated that you should never let a good crisis go to waste because it would allow you to do things you wouldn’t otherwise be able to do. We also know that Barack Obama blew his chance to appear like a leader on this issue– he failed to take charge and show that he was on top of this issue. But now we know that Barack Obama does indeed intend to use this crisis to do something he might not otherwise be able to accomplish– passing cap and trade. He has decided to heed Rahm Emanuel’s advice.
Perhaps this is why Barack Obama is unwilling to send federal help to the gulf region; he hopes that as more oil spills into the Gulf, he will be able to paint the oil companies as the bad guys while he escapes criticism for his inadequate response, and because of this more people will be willing to support his cap and trade legislation. He has apparently decided that it is more important to use the oil spill as a means to pass cap and trade than he finds it important to actually stop the leak and provide relief to the struggling people who are being affected by this disaster.
With the global warming hoax all but discredited by climategate, and with more and more people becoming skeptical of climate change, Barack Obama needs something to provide him with an excuse to pass a national energy tax on the American people and he hopes that this oil spill will provide the catalyst.
It tells us all we need to know about Barack Obama that he finds it more imperative to use the oil spill to push cap and trade legislation than he finds it necessary to stop the oil spill.
The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee– Edolphus Towns– requested the documents from the White House that concern the BP oil rig explosion. Not only was he not provided with those documents, the White House never even acknowledged the request.
Edolphus Towns is not very happy about it and he let his displeasure known in a letter that he sent to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar:
After repeated phone calls by Committee staff, we were informed today that the requested information and records will not be produced any time soon and that no estimate can be provided as to when the committee will receive this information
While I understand that your agency and the Minerals Management Service are under a great deal of pressure at the moment, to have this request ignored is simply unacceptable
I understand that the Obama regime has its hands full trying to ignore the oil spill while attempting to defend the president’s lack of caring about this issue, and that releasing these documents would not allow them to ignore the growing discontent with Barack Obama’s non-handling of this crisis, but enough is enough already. It is time for Barack Obama to take responsibility for his failings during this crisis.
Even Democrats are beginning to turn Obama for his non-caring attitude in this matter, and this is just one example. James Carville– of all people– is wondering what the hell the president is thinking.
The “political stupidity is unbelievable,” Democratic strategist James Carville said on “Good Morning America” today. “The president doesn’t get down here in the middle of this. … I have no idea of why they didn’t seize this thing. I have no idea of why their attitude was so hands off here.”
And it just looks like he’s not involved in this! Man, you have got to get down here and take control of this
I am about to write words that I never in a million years thought that I ever would; James Carville is right!
I understand that nobody understood how damaging this oil spill was going to be, but we are more than one month into this crisis and oil is still spilling into the Gulf of Mexico. This is unacceptable, the president can point his finger at BP all that he wants and proclaim they are responsible for solving the problem, but the fact remains that the federal government has sat idly by when they could have provided some help in containing the spill, and he is responsible for this. He had a chance to be a leader on this issue and he has failed miserably.
That is why the White House is reluctant to release the documents related to the BP oil spill.
Dick Morris claims Sestak scandal is an impeachable offense, Republicans ask for special prosecutor
The Obama regime is hoping that the Joe Sestak scandal will go away– and if the media were to have its way the Joe Sestak scandal would go away– but this story is far from over. Once Joe Sestak beat Arlen Specter in the Democrat Pennsylvania primary this issue probably should have disappeared, but after his big win last week Joe Sestak reaffirmed his claim that he was offered a high level job in return for his dropping out of the primary race in order to leave Arlen Specter unopposed in the primary.
The fact that Joe Sestak did not drop his claim after his victory has got to be a thorn in the side of the Obama regime. Instead of jumping on board with the Democrats’ agenda and letting the issue fade away, he upped the ante by refusing to back away from his claim.
Now Dick Morris– a former Clinton adviser– has spoken out on the scandal, claiming that this is ten times worse than the Valerie Plame scandal that Democrats and the media used to rock the Bush administration.
This scandal could be enormous,” said Dick Morris, a former White House adviser to President Bill Clinton, on the Fox News Sean Hannity show last night. “It’s Valerie Plame only 10 times bigger, because it’s illegal and Joe Sestak is either lying or the White House committed a crime
He didn’t stop there:
Obviously, the offer of a significant job in the White House could not be made unless it was by Rahm Emanuel or cleared with Rahm Emanuel,” he said. If the job offer was high enough that it also had Obama’s approval, “that is a high crime and misdemeanor
The term “high crime and misdemeanor” is not insignificant; it is the only term used to describe a crime that a president can be impeached for. Naturally he was asked if this meant that the Joe Sestak scandal could potentially be an impeachable offense, to which he answered, “absolutely.”
Villain extraordinaire of the left– Karl Rove– backed up Dick Morris’s claim stating:
This is a pretty extraordinary charge: ‘They tried to bribe me out of the race by offering me a job,'” he said on Greta Van Susteran’s “On the Record” program on the Fox News Channel. “Look, that’s a violation of the federal code: 18 USC 600 says that a federal official cannot promise employment, a job in the federal government, in return for a political act.”Somebody violated the law. If Sestak is telling the truth, somebody violated the law,” Rove said. “Section 18 USC 211 says you cannot accept anything of value in return for hiring somebody. Well, arguably, providing a clear path to the nomination for a fellow Democrat is something of value.
He continued, citing a third law passage: “18 USC 595, which prohibits a federal official from interfering with the nomination or election for office. … ‘If you’ll get out, we’ll appoint you to a federal office,’ – that’s a violation of the law.”
Yet Joe Sestak has refused to provide any details about his claim.
I’ve said all I’m going to say on the matter. … Others need to explain whatever their role might be,” Sestak said on CNN this week. “I have a personal accountability; I should have for my role in the matter, which I talked about. Beyond that, I’ll let others talk about their role
His silence on the details has led many to believe that he is lying about his claim, but what would he have to gain by lying about this– other than a prison term for libel? That is why I believe Joe Sestak’s claim; however I do believe that he probably has no proof of these claims. But if he has no proof, why would he reaffirm those claims after he won the primary election? Why wouldn’t he just let the scandal fade away if he had no proof? This is what I can’t understand, and that is why there needs to be a special investigation into his claims. If he is lying, he needs to face repercussions, even if those repercussions mean that he forfeits his primary win to Arlen Specter. But if he is telling the truth and someone in the Obama regime committed a federal offense, that person needs to be help accountable. If Barack Obama knew about the job offer than he also must be held accountable, up to and including impeachment.
As I stated above, there are too many unanswered questions about a potential scandal as serious as this one, and for that reason a special investigation has to take place. Today all of the Republicans– including RINO Lindsey Graham– on the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Eric Holder urging “the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Congressman Joe Sestak’s claim that a White House official offered him a job to induce him to exit the Pennsylvania Senate primary race against Senator Arlen Specter.”
David Axelrod confirmed that if Joe Sestak’s claim is true that a serious “breach of the law” occurred, however he claimed that the allegations were looked into and no wrongdoing was found. I am sorry, but that isn’t good enough. In private, (so much for transparency) Democrats looked into the claims and strangely enough could find nothing wrong. Yet the scandal is not going away, it is time for an independent investigation into these charges. Republicans agree:
do not believe the Department of Justice can properly defer to White House lawyers to investigate a matter that could involve ‘a serious breach of the law.’ The White House cannot possibly manage an internal investigation of potential criminal misconduct while simultaneously crafting a public narrative to rebut the claim that misconduct occurred
In other words, there is a conflict of interest with the White House lawyers investigating the possible wrongdoing of the president. In all likelihood Democrats will refuse to investigate this further, and this scenario leads me to ask the question, what are they hiding?
If the White House is hiding nothing there is no reason that they wouldn’t welcome a special prosecutor to clear everyone’s name, if they resist hiring a special prosecutor the accusations and suspicions will only grow and become a bigger distraction heading into the fall elections. The only reason for the regime to oppose getting to the bottom of this scandal that I can come up with is that there is a smoking gun somewhere.
Eric Holder do your job and appoint a special prosecutor.
Barack Obama has nominated a candidate to the Supreme Court that not much is known about. She has never been a justice and has very limited courtroom experience. Because of this, the only insight that we have of Elena Kagan’s positions are documents that she has written on constitutional matters. Most of the documents that she has written were written while she was in the Clinton Administration and so the Senate Judiciary Committee has asked the Clinton Presidential Library to release those documents for review. This is a request that Terri Garner has agreed to, but with the confirmation that many of the documents would not be released in time for her confirmation hearing.
Patrick Leahy has stated that the confirmation hearing would not be delayed, stating that “there is no reason to unduly delay consideration of this nomination.” And he is right, there is no reason to “unduly delay” these confirmation hearings, but the fact that the only documents that we have on Elena Kagan’s positions will not be released in time for the hearings constitutes a very plausible reason for Republicans to ask for a delay in the hearing.
Jeff Sessions– the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee– agrees, claiming that Republicans will not allow the confirmation hearings to go forward untill all of Kagan’s Clinton era documents have been released. A perfectly reasonable request if you ask me.
I don’t believe that this committee can go forward with an adequate hearing” without all records from Kagan’s tenure as a White House counsel and then domestic policy adviser to President Bill Clinton
I don’t believe that there is much that Jeff Sessions can do to slow down Kagan’s confirmation hearing, and the hearing will probably go on as scheduled, but one has to wonder why the Democrats are in such a hurry to confirm Elena Kagan that they are unwilling to wait until after all of her written documents have been released.
What are the Democrats afraid of? What are the Democrats trying to hide? These documents are all that the Senate Judiciary Committee has to go by, and these documents are all that the American people have to go by, yet Patrick Leahy is unwilling to let the Republicans and the American people see these documents before the confirmation hearing. There has to be something there that could be a possible threat to her confirmation. We deserve to know what it is before she is given this position for life.
Bob Casey introduces a union bailout bill
Senator Bob Casey– Democrat from Pennsylvania– has introduced a $165 billion dollar bill that would bailout the union pension funds at the expense of tax paying Americans. That is $165 billion as of right now, these pensions have to be paid out until the recipients die, so the end cost to the taxpayers could be unlimited, there is no telling how much this bill will cost us before all is said and done.
A hearing is scheduled about this bill on Thursday, as of yet it is undetermined how much support this bill will receive. Barack Obama has already stated that there will be no more bailouts, but it remains to be seen if he can resist supporting a bill that would be a major payout to one of the Democrats’ biggest special interest groups– the unions. I highly doubt he would have the guts to oppose legislation that would help his biggest campaign contributors if this bill does eventually make it to his desk.
I am sorry that these people’s pensions are in danger, but I cannot understand how it has become the responsibility of taxpaying Americans– non-union and union members whose pensions are not in danger– to pay for the troubled pensions that were negotiated in good faith between a union and the employer. If these pensions cannot be paid, it is not the fault of Average Americans and the burden should not fall on them.
I have to believe that if this bill ever becomes law the American people will see it for what it really is– a huge kickback to one of the special interest groups responsible for putting Barack Obama in office in the first place.
Sooner or later the American people have to say enough is enough, this would be a good time to do so. The bailouts have failed, this one will fail also. America is bankrupt, we cannot afford this, and we do not deserve this.
Massachusetts Governor, Deval Patrick– who is a close friend of Barack Obama– today claimed that the Republican party’s opposition to Barack Obama’s agenda borders on sedition.
When asked about the bickering in Washington, Deval Patrick compared the turmoil he has faced to the turmoil that Barack Obama is facing.
It seems like child’s play compared to what is going on in Washington, where it is almost at the level of sedition, it feels to like me
He continued:
I think that the number of people in the Grand Old Party who seem to be absolutely committed to saying ‘no,’ whenever he says ‘yes,’ no matter what it is, even if it’s an idea that they came up with, is just extraordinary
There you have it in the governor’s own words; to speak out or oppose the federal government is to commit sedition. To oppose a person’s right to speak out against the government sounds like Marxism to me.
What is ironic here is the context in which he made that libelous comment. While talking about the bickering in Washington, he claimed those that oppose the president are being seditious. He is castigating people for opposing the president and for bickering, while at the same time engaging in the same type of behavior he is speaking out against. Will he be called out for this hypocrisy in the Boston Globe? I think not.
Deval Patrick later tried to back away from his comment when he realized that Massachusetts Republicans were going to be able to use it against his re-election bid, calling it “rhetorical flourish,” but in a moment of weakness he let his true feelings known to everyone who was listening. Perhaps he has forgotten all of the “rhetorical flourish” that was being flung around by the left for the last eight years because I don’t remember him ever denouncing any of the vile, hate-filled rhetoric that came from his side back then.
Then again, back then it wasn’t seditious to oppose the president– it was patriotic. Remember Hillary Clinton’s words? She said, “we need to stand up and say we’re Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration.”
But that was then and this is now. And now it is seditious to stand up and debate and disagree with ANY administration, at least according to Deval Patrick. Oh, how times have changed!
