Global Warming Insanity

March 1, 2007

This just goes to show you what kind of people believe in manmade global warming.

UFO science key to halting climate change: former Canadian defense minister

OTTAWA (AFP) – A former Canadian defense minister is demanding governments worldwide disclose and use secret alien technologies obtained in alleged UFO crashes to stem climate change, a local paper said Wednesday.

“I would like to see what (alien) technology there might be that could eliminate the burning of fossil fuels within a generation … that could be a way to save our planet,” Paul Hellyer, 83, told the Ottawa Citizen.

Alien spacecrafts would have traveled vast distances to reach Earth, and so must be equipped with advanced propulsion systems or used exceptional fuels, he told the newspaper.

Such alien technologies could offer humanity alternatives to fossil fuels, he said, pointing to the enigmatic 1947 incident in Roswell, New Mexico — which has become a shrine for UFO believers — as an example of alien contact.

“We need to persuade governments to come clean on what they know. Some of us suspect they know quite a lot, and it might be enough to save our planet if applied quickly enough,” he said.

Hellyer became defense minister in former prime minister Lester Pearson’s cabinet in 1963, and oversaw the controversial integration and unification of Canada’s army, air force and navy into the Canadian Forces.

He shocked Canadians in September 2005 by announcing he once saw a UFO.

More On Al Gore’s Energy Consumption

March 1, 2007

Interesting take on Al Gore’s energy consumption. He wants us to live one way so he can live another way. He is allowed to waste enrgy because he buys a credit? If he is really comitted to this cause, shouldn’t he conserve enrgy?

From theamericanthinker.com:

Thomas Lifson
The ability of wealthy individuals like Al Gore to purchase what amounts to rights to pollute by buying carbon credits is a repulsive moral dodge, demanding us to consider useful analogies. One comparison that has occurred to many is the sale of Papal Indulgences that so infuriated Martin Luther. Taxprof picked up on this analgy in commenting on the “get out of jail free” card for pollution guilt that was part of the gift bag given to all Academy Awards presenters.

This year’s Oscar goodie bag contained gift certificates representing 100,000 pounds of greenhouse gas reductions from TerraPass, which describes itself as a “carbon offset retailer.” The 100,000 pounds “are enough to balance out an average year in the life of an Academy Award presenter,” a press release from TerraPass asserts. “For example, 100,000 pounds is the total amount of carbon dioxide created by 20,000 miles of driving, 40,000 miles on commercial airlines, 20 hours in a private jet and a large house in Los Angeles. The greenhouse gas reductions will be accomplished through TerraPass’ [program] of verified wind energy, cow power [collecting methane from manure] and efficiency projects.” Voila, guilt-free consumption! It reminds us of the era when rich Catholics paid the church for “dispensations” that would shorten their terms in Purgatory.” [hat tips: Instapundit, Clarice Feldman]

But I think there is another good analogy, much closer to hand, both geographically and temporally.
During the Civil War, it was possible for well-to-do men who were drafted to pay a $300 “commutation fee” and escape the draft. The move sparked much public outrage, creating the impression that the war was a “rich man’s war” and probably contributing to the disgraceful draft riots in New York City, which led to the lynching of African Americans.
It seems to me that the purchase of carbon credits is a direct imitation of commutation fee. I don’t expect to see SUV-deprived soccer moms lunching the wealthy outside of fixed base operator terminals at haunts of private jet-setters like Teterboro and Santa Monica Airports,  but I do expect public revulsion to rise and rise, as sacrifices demanded of ordinary people are evaded by the wealthy. The war on global warming seems very much a “rich man’s war.”
Everyone who preens about personal enlightenment by virtue of a “position” on global warming should sign a green pledge to reduce actual personal carbon emissions, not just pay a commutation fee in the form of carbon credits.  Anyone who emits more CO2 than the average citizen does should be subject to relentless ridicule. They can no more claim virtue than could Civil War-era draft evaders who paid their $300 bucks claim moral parity with wounded veterans.

Kent State Professor Routes For Bin Laden Over The USA

From townhall.com:

Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard
By Mike S. Adams

Yesterday afternoon, I logged on to the “Global War” blog (global-war.bloghi.com) of Associate Professor Julio Pino – a Muslim convert who teaches at Kent State University. The heading for the site used to read “The Worldwide Web of Jihad: Daily News from the Most Dangerous Muslim in America.” Now it reads “Are You Prepared for Jihad?” IN THE NAME OF OBL. 2007: THE YEAR OF ISLAMIC VICTORY!”

Hardly able to believe what I was reading, I called Pino at his office in Ohio around 4 p.m. According to his secretary, he had not been at work that day (he only has office hours two days of the week). He was drawing a paycheck from the people of the State of Ohio while trying to launch a Jihad against people like me. In fact, just five minutes before I called he posted an entry under the title “Crusaders Can’t Take Anymore in Afghanistan!” Read more…

Democrats Defend The Culture Of Corruption

February 28, 2007

Remember the culture of corruption? During the Katrina evacuation this man ordered a boat that was rescuing Katrina victims to bring him to his house. The boat got stuck so they brought in another boat, which also got stuck. They ended up bringing in a helicopter to get him out. He was removing his freezer full of bribe money. He took resources away from people helping the Katrina victims so he could hide his bribe money. Because he is a Democrat it was swept under the rug, he wasn’t part of the culture of corruption. Now the Democrats are going to reward him.

Republicans Set to Block Jefferson’s Appointment to Homeland Security Panel

By: Patrick O’Connor
Republicans plan to force a floor vote on Rep. William Jefferson’s move to the Homeland Security Committee in an unprecedented maneuver to force Democrats to go on the record supporting their embattled colleague who is the target of a federal bribery investigation.

House Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) pledged to call for a recorded vote on the House floor when Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) introduces a resolution to make the Jefferson move official. Read more…

Dems: Murtha Upstaging Pelosi

By: Josephine Hearn
To put it bluntly, as the former Marine is wont to do, Rep. John Murtha is rankling some of his fellow Democrats who worry his outspokenness sometimes upstages even Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The Pennsylvania Democrat has long charted his own course in dealings with the press and congressional leaders. But now after three decades in the House, he’s a national figure and his independent streak and sometimes fiery rhetoric are causing wider rifts for Democrats. Read more…

Banning The Term “Illegal Alien” In Florida

February 28, 2007

This is unbelievable, freedom of speech has been under attack for years with political correctness. Political corectness is an intentional attack on free speech by liberals to stop speech if it might offend someone, it doesn;t matter if what was said is true or not. This takes the cake though. Banning the term illegal alien. It’s offensive and mean-spirited so it must be banned. What speech will be banned next?

This is from news-press.com:

Bill would mandate nicer term for illegals
By Bill Cotterell

TALLAHASSEE — A state legislator whose district is home to thousands of Caribbean immigrants wants to ban the term “illegal alien” from the state’s official documents.

“I personally find the word ‘alien’ offensive when applied to individuals, especially to children,” said Sen. Frederica Wilson, D-Miami. “An alien to me is someone from out of space.”

She has introduced a bill providing that: “A state agency or official may not use the term ‘illegal alien’ in an official document of the state.” There would be no penalty for using the words.

In Miami-Dade County, Wilson said, “we don’t say ‘alien,’ we say ‘immigrant.'”

She said she encountered the situation when trying to pass a bill allowing children of foreigners to get in-state tuition at colleges and universities. Wilson, who directs a dropout prevention and education program in Miami, said she politely asks witnesses at public hearings on such issues not to use the term.

“There are students in our schools whose parents are trying to become citizens and we shouldn’t label them,” she said. “They are immigrants, through no fault of their own, not aliens.”

Wilson said the first word isn’t as bad as the second.

“‘Illegal,’ I can live with, but I like ‘undocumented’ better,” she said.

Asked if her bill (SB 2154) might run afoul of Gov. Charlie Crist’s “plain speaking” mandate for government agencies, Wilson said, “I think getting rid of ‘alien’ would be plain speaking.”

More Proof The Anti-war Democrats Are Falling Apart Part 2

February 28, 2007

From politico.com, this is starting to get good. The Democrat party is splitting over the war. They don’t know what to do. It was easy for them to criticise the war when they were out of power. Now that they have the power, they realize it’s not as easy as they thought. They are afraid to take responsibility for any actions they may take.

Democrats Snipe At Senate Leaders Over Handling Of Iraq Issue

By: John Bresnahan

Senate Democrats are accusing their leaders of mismanaging the twin efforts to block President Bush’s troop surge in Iraq and force a quicker end to the war.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday postponed for at least a week action on a Democratic plan to rewrite the 2002 congressional resolution authorizing the war, imposing new wartime restrictions on the administration. Read more…

More Proof The Anti-war Democrats Are Falling Apart

February 27, 2007

Here is more proof to back up what I believe to be truth, that the anti-war movement is falling apart. I’m still not sure the Democrat party was elected last November as a mandate the way the mainstream media believes, it’s referenced in this article below. I believed the Republicans lost do to the drumbeat of the culture of corruption. Jack Abramof and such, Mark Foley. As soon as they found out he was gay they turned it into a pedophilia case. Why did the left, who are supposedly so tolerant assume if Foley was gay he must be a pedophile? We later found out the pages were of legal age. Don’t forget George Allen and the makaka incident. This is why Republicans lost, not the war.

Of course now we have Murtha, an un indited co conspiritor to bribery, Harry Reid’s suspect land deals, Nancy Pelosi’s unclaimed finances, Hillary’s unclaimed charitable foundation ETC…. And nothing is mentioned about them.

Sorry, this was supposed to be about the Democrats and how their anti-war resolutions are falling apart. I just got a little carried away.

From breitbart.com:

Senate Democrats on Tuesday deferred debate on revoking President George W. Bush’s Iraq war authority, after failing to reach consensus on the best way to hasten the end of US military involvement there.

The Senate had considered taking up an amendment proposed by Democratic senators Carl Levin and Joseph Biden which would revoke the president’s 2002 authorization to wage war in Iraq.

The bill, one of several Iraq-related measure slated for debate, was to have been introduced as an amendment to homeland security legislation which went to the Senate floor Tuesday.

But Democrats decided to hold off on the de-authorization debate out of deference to the survivors of the September 11, 2001 attacks, some of whom had voiced concern that the domestic security legislation would get bogged down in a raucous floor debate over Iraq.

“The idea is not to do it on this bill because of the concerns of the 9/11 survivors and families,” Democratic Senator Russ Feingold told reporters.

Democrats, who were elected in November with a mandate to change the course of US policy in Iraq, are united in their desire to craft an exit strategy from the wartorn country.

Feingold said however that they are divided by “a variety of viewpoints” on how to achieve that aim. Various bills and amendments under discussion include reducing the number of troops in Iraq; setting performance benchmarks on the Iraqi government; and even cutting funding for military options in Iraq.

“There is a problem with disagreement about this war and what we should do — particularly about the funding issue,” Feingold told reporters.

He said however that Democratic differences will have to be ironed out quickly, since the Iraq question is likely to be next on the Senate’s agenda once work on the 9/11 bill is completed in the next several days.

“Disagreements will come and we’ll have to work them out,” Feingold said.

Iraq And U.S. Invite Syria, Iran To Meet

February 27, 2007

I’m not sure if I like this or not, we’ll have to see how it plays out. We are now going to talk to Syria and Iran. Of course, we don’t know if this is true, it does come from CBS news.

From cbsnews.com:

CBS/AP) The United States and the Iraqi government are launching a new diplomatic initiative to invite Iran and Syria to a “neighbors meeting” on stabilizing Iraq, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday. “We hope that all governments seize this opportunity to improve their relations with Iraq and to work for peace and stability in the region,” Rice said in remarks prepared for delivery to a Senate committee. Excerpts were released in advance by the State Department. After first rejecting much of the Baker-Hamilton Report, the White House is now embracing a key component of it — engaging directly with Syria and Iran, reports CBS News correspondent Jim Axelrod. The move reflects a change of approach by the Bush administration, which previously had resisted calls by members of Congress and by a bipartisan Iraq review group to include Iran and Syria in diplomatic talks on stabilizing Iraq. “I am pleased to announce that we are also supporting the Iraqis in a new diplomatic offensive: to build greater support, both within the region and beyond, for peace and prosperity in Iraq,” Rice said, adding that U.S. and Iraqi officials agree that success in Iraq “requires the positive support of Iraq’s neighbors.” At the White House, press secretary Tony Snow told reporters the administration is “happy that the government of Iraq is taking this step and engaging its neighbors. And we also hope and expect that Iran and Syria will play constructive roles in those talks.” But Snow cautioned people to be patient, noting that “this is one where the agenda is being set up by the government of Iraq. And the conditions, especially for bilateral conversations with the Iranians, are pretty clear.” The administration in recent weeks had increased its public criticism of Iran’s role in Iraq, charging it with supplying deadly weapons, including advanced technologies for the most lethal form of roadside bombs. The administration also has accused Syria of harboring anti-Iraqi government forces and allowing weapons to cross its border. Rice and Defense Secretary Robert Gates testified Tuesday before the Senate Appropriations Committee on the administration’s budget request for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Iraqi government announced in Baghdad that it is preparing the meeting for mid-March, and that invitees include members of the Arab League and the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. The conference will focus on reconstruction issues and economic development as well as security, adds Axelrod. Syria will be represented at the conference by Ahmed Arnous, an aide to the foreign minister, an Iraqi Foreign Ministry official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the plans had not yet been formally announced. Other Arab countries and Iran have not confirmed their attendance or the level of delegates they would send. Rice said the mid-March meeting will be held at the sub-ministerial level. That is to be followed, perhaps as early as the first half of April, by a full ministerial-level meeting with the same invited countries, plus members of the G-8 group of leading industrial powers. “I would note that the Iraqi government has invited Syria and Iran to attend both of these regional meetings,” Rice said. She also noted that the Iraq Study Group, headed by former Secretary of State James Baker and former Rep. Lee Hamilton, had recommended inviting Iran and Syria to such a neighbors meeting. At the time of that recommendation in December, President Bush rejected that diplomatic approach.

Anti-War Democrats Are Falling Apart

February 27, 2007

This is an article from the New Hampshire Union Leader, I believe it helps to illustrate that the left and the anti-war contingent are beginning to fall apart. They believed when they were put into power that they would just be able to cut and run, but now they are finding out  president Bush is in it to win it( to borrow a phrase from the Hillary). They don’t have the power they thought they had. The American people want to win, and the left knows it would be a political nightmare to cut off funding.

Republicans Won’t Give Democrats An Iraq Get Out Of Jail Free Card

By ROBERT D. NOVAK

DEMOCRATIC SENATORS this week will face trouble trying to cleanse themselves of the stain left by voting for President Bush’s Iraq war resolution. Republican senators who have turned against U.S. military intervention in Iraq are not interested in bailing out Democrats by approving their proposal to repeal the 2002 authorization passed overwhelmingly by Congress.
