Nancy Pelosi Rebukes Rep. Stark for his Iraq War Comment
I can’t believe I am going to say this, but here goes. Nancy Pelosi has finally said
something I agree with. God, I feel dirty now, I think I will take a shower after this post.
Today Nancy Pelosi condemned Rep. Stark for saying the president was amused by soldiers getting their heads blown off. You can see the video here.
“While members of Congress are passionate about their views, what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand—providing health care for America’s children,” Pelosi said.
She really agrees with what Rep.Stark said, however the congress’ dismal approval ratings coupled with her lack of leadership and failure to get anything accomplished has her on the defensive. She made a tactical move here to try and boost her approval ratings. If congress had even gotten one bill signed by the president she may have taken the offensive here and defended Stark for his right to free speech but she didn’t because she was afraid to open herself up to the do-nothing congress motto that she helped to pin on the Republican led congress.

I don’t think it was a calculated move. I think the more popular thing to do right now would be to agree and not admonish the man, given the state of American politics and the 70% anti-War sentiment.
Pelosi did ‘the right thing’. Any democrat who would say that it was anything but a distraction and inappropriate is deluding themselves. The truth is, Bush is a very ill regarded President at this stage of his presidency and given the heightened state of frustration due to a gridlocked Congress.. you better believe tensions are high. The anti-American propaganda is childish, petty, and a sure recipe for political disaster because now liberals are using it to rally against Bush and Republicans and it’ll resonate well as we approach the 2008 elections.

I’m sorry but this doesn’t do anything for me. His comments warranted much stronger criticism and a harsh consequence.

I’m shocked that she went even that far. It’s unlike her to ever go against another dem. Isn’t that one of the commandments of the democratic party? Thou shalt not speak against another democrat? I agree with Dee though, it isn’t enough. Stark needed to be severely punished for saying such things. There is no place in elected office for a deranged psychotic like that. It’s dangerous.

It isn’t enough, but I am still surprised she even said anything. There must have been allot of negative reaction that she heard or she wouldn’t have even commented on it.

It’s psychotic not to recognize that’s what a war platform leads to. It might be an over-the-top comment : but it actually happens. A Brit wrote a piece from Basra that might let you wonder is everything is all so rosy.
