Republicans Vote in Favor of Debating Cheney Impeachment

Today Dennis Kucinich pushed forward on his plan to move to impeach Dick Cheney.

“In his conduct while Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of Vice President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.”

Democrats including Nancy Pelosi wanted no part of this ridiculous bill and tried to table it. They know that this is just a political game being played and were afraid of the political ramifications. That is when the Republicans decided to vote with Kucinich and force a debate on the issue. They sensed a chance to embarrass the Democrats by making them argue for or against impeachment, because they knew that most Democrats were against impeachment. This would have forced Democrats to either pander to the fringe left wing or vote the way they knew was right and alienate the moonbat left. This was a brilliant move by Republicans and it almost payed off.

Steny Hoyer, the house majority leader stepped in and referred the bill back to the House Judiciary Committee, and that vote was passed. This saved the day for the Democrats, who now don’t have to take a stand on yet another issue. It will be back though, far left liberals never take no for an answer.

Trying to spin today’s waste of time into a positive, Hoyer blamed the Republicans of playing political games with impeachment.

“I am surprised that Republicans would treat an issue as important as the potential impeachment of a Vice President of the United States as a petty political game,” he said in a statement. “It is beneath the dignity of this institution.”

The Republicans voted to send the bill to debate so that there could be a debate on the issue, isn’t that the way it is supposed to work? This is playing a political game? You debate an issue and then you vote on it. But the Democrats never wanted to make a stand, they just wanted to show the far left that they were trying to make a stand. They assumed the Republicans would block the debate and vote and they would be able to spin that to the moonbats by saying “we tried to impeach Cheney, we just didn’t have the votes.” That would have allowed them to appear to have tried, which would please the moonbats, while failing at the same time, which would have allowed them to not go on the record as being for impeachment which would have alienated moderate voters.

The Democrats bring articles of impeachment against the vice president to the table for political reasons. The Republicans vote with the Democrats, they voted FOR something the Democrats supposedly wanted to pass, the Democrats manage to kill the bill that they proposed, and it is the Republicans that are playing games?

Yes the Republicans did play a game on the Democrats here, but I ask you, who started the game?

It’s silly to think that anybody with a “D” next to their name would get uppity about somebody playing “games.” I guess it’s the same old thing though – do as we say, not as we do. It would seem that the democrats don’t fare too well when their own tactics are used against them.

I know that as conservatives we’re not supposed to “lower ourselves to their level,” but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire and take these guys on their own turf. I think that they act the way they do because they anticipate that the Republicans won’t sink to their levels and maintain that so-called dignity… So when they turn around and slap them like this, they don’t know what to do 🙂
