Congress to Debate Defunding Abortion Clinics

November 18, 2007

Congress will soon be debating two bills, Title X Family Planning Act (S.351) and Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 4133). These bills would all but end federal funding of abortions by non hospitals with some exceptions. As much as I am opposed to abortion I am equally or maybe even more opposed to paying for someone else’s abortions. The National Right to Life is urging congress to pass at least one of these bills.

“Taxpayer funds should not be given to organizations that are the backbone of the abortion industry, such as Planned Parenthood,” said Douglas Johnson, legislative director of National Right to Life.

“These bills do not call for a reduction in family planning funding, rather they prevent abortion providers from receiving tax dollars,” Johnson added.

There is no excuse in today’s day and age for anyone who doesn’t want to get pregnant getting pregnant. Hell, condoms are being handed out in school without parental consent. I don’t want to pay for it. You made the mistake, you pay for it. It is not the taxpayers responsibility to correct your little problem.

According to its 2005-2006 annual report, Planned Parenthood performed nearly 20 percent of all abortions in the U.S. That’s 264,943 abortions in 2005. It received $305.3 million in government grants and contracts.

That’s allot of reward money for killing babies isn’t it? This just falls into the whole no consequences for your actions mold, doesn’t it? Getting pregnant isn’t a consequence anymore when you can have taxpayers foot the bill for you to end your pregnancy with no strings attached.

So while liberals will see this as an attack on abortion it is not. It is simply a matter of letting the person recieving the procedure pay the bill. What’s wrong with that. Womaen will still have the right to choose, they would just have to pay for it. “Gasp”

This shouldn’t even be the subject of debate. This should be a no-brainer. Government should not be providing funds for abortion or supporting groups like Planned Parenthood. If private people or organizations want to, great, but not on the taxpayer’s dollar.

Along with everything else that’s wrong with it, it sends just the wrong message, as you said, regarding the “no consequences” mentality. The way things are, you don’t even need to put up your own money for an abortion because the taxpayer will pay for it anyway. How does that teach anybody how to be responsible for their own selves?
