The Obama administration reported stimulus money being spent in zip codes that do not exist

January 6, 2010

Back in November it was learned that the Obama administration was crediting jobs that were either saved or created in congressional districts that did not exist. We were told that these were just errors that were made by the people who were in charge of reporting the stimulus money that the districts received. The administration claimed that in many instances the people who were in charge of receiving and reporting the stimulus money did not know which congressional district they belonged to. That is pretty scary– if you believe it– how can the government hire people to track stimulus money who do not know what the congressional districts are that they are in charge of reporting?

Needless to say, it is hard– nearly impossible– for someone who is as cynical about the federal government as I am, to honestly believe that there was not more to this story than the Obama administration is letting us know about. It is quite possible that the administration was skewing the numbers to make the stimulus look more effective than it actually was. I just find it too hard to believe that an administration– even an administration as incompetent as Barack Obama’s administration– would not hire people who are at least responsible enough to properly report where the stimulus money is being spent.

But the story does not end there; in addition to the news that the jobs saved or created numbers were being credited to congressional districts that do not exist, we have now learned that there was millions of dollars sent to zip codes that do not exist.

There are only two reasons that stimulus money is being reported as having been sent to zip codes that do not exist; One, in the worst case scenario, this is fraud that is being perpetrated in order to inflate the effectiveness of the stimulus bill, or two; in the best case scenario, the people that have been hired to track the stimulus money are incompetent.

I stated that option two was a better case scenario than option one; the question is, is it really? Is is better that the Obama administration has people working for it that are so incompetent that they do not know what zip codes they are in charge of, or is it better that the Obama administration is purposely inflating the numbers by purposely reporting money that has been sent to zip codes that do not exist?

Neither of these scenarios is very appealing, and it doesn’t give you a feeling of trust in the government that is on the cusp of running the healthcare system. Does it?

Option one is the right one! No doubt!

BTW – I am going to let go a swear up a storm on your blog. I am not responsible for anything I say. You, Mr. Pink Eyes are responsible for my bad behavior as it is simply an over-site or just a slip on my part and you should have know I was going to do it. Am I sounding like a stupid, incompetent, moronic, lying, two-faced idiot yet?

Yeah, well that’s how this administration sounds. I have had it up to here with this ridiculous craziness. Like Krauthammer recently said, “I would rather be paralyzed from the neck down then from the neck up” like this ding-dongs (outside quotes is my own words.)

I am now at the point that I am just waiting for the next ball (or bomb) to drop!

Two faced, that is the perfect description of this adminisration. This whole stimulus plan was nothing but a giant reward for all of the Democrats special interests. ANd now they have to hide the money, what better way to do that than to have a few paperwork errors?

The fraud just grows and the MSM still goes, “ZZZZZ.”

I’m still wondering where this money really went, to who, and what was ACORN’s cut?

We are never going to find out as long as the MSM stays in bed with Obama. There are signs that the MSM may be tiring of the way he is treating him, maybe someday they will return to reporting.

Plain and simple, they are hiding how and where some of this money was spent. I just hope the rest of the general public remembers this come November.

It certainly seems as if they are trying to hide some of the money to me Larry. I know I am not going to forget this in November, I hope enough people will remember.

I think the phrase “never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence” is applicable here. After all, don’t we all hold that government is incompetent? I see this kind of thing often. My guess is that it is data entry errors and the program that was used to enter data does not check for a valid zip code. I am pretty certain that there isn’t anybody scrutinizing the data being punched in by the trained monkeys.

I’m sorry. I don’t by it was a “mistake,” unless it was a “mistake” on purpose.

I assume then that your typo was intentional? 🙂

Sometimes the most simplistic explanation is the answer. I would be shocked if there wasn’t someone entering the data in a system separate from where they do the real accounting. If they were wanting to hide something there is a whole gamut of accounting tricks that would he more effective.

What a mess! But when the government runs anything it usally gets in that shape. Who knows if this is deliberate or not, in either case it stinks. And we are about to turn over 1/6 of the economy to these guys in Washington.

I recall one time going into a federal office one time in Little Rock so years back and it was a large room with about 20-30 desk and looking around the room I saw only about 3-4 of the workers doing anything. The rest basically had their feet on the dest tops and were taking it easy. Many federal workers are confident in their job security and put out as little effort as possible to maintain their jobs. And now we will hire tens of thousands more to handle all these programs and they will as usual be inefficient and basically worthless. I’m not in the least surprised by non-existance zips and fudged numbers. This people do not give a sh*t, because they don’t have too!
