Nancy Pelosi may retire if Democrats lose control of the House

October 29, 2010

As if we needed any more incentive to vote next Tuesday, it is now being speculated that if the Democrats lose control of the House Nancy Pelosi will retire. Not just give up her gavel mind you, she may retire altogether from the House.

With several Democrats stating publicly that they will not vote for her as Speaker of the House if Democrats somehow manage to hold on to their majority, and with many Democrats refusing to state their support for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, it seems as if there it a looming power struggle growing within the ranks of House Democrats. It has been reported that if the Democrats do hold onto the House that Nancy Pelosi would not seek another term as Speaker, but this news takes this election to another level. This news raises the stakes of this election even higher.

This turns Nancy Pelosi’s re-election bid into a national election–a referendum on the Speaker as well as the president. If this speculation is accurate we will not only have the chance to vote against her figuratively, we will have the chance to vote against her literally. We cannot let this chance pass us by!

And when you take into account the fact that most pundits agree that Democrats can not avoid losing the House, the  likelihood of Democrats–who will most likely blame her for the demise of their House majority–voting for Nancy Pelosi as minority leader seem next to zero. Nor does it seem that she is willing to take what she most likely will–and should–consider a step backwards.

Nancy Pelosi’s re-election seems all but certain as she represents what is probably the most liberal section in the nation. She seems to be one of the few Democrats who isn’t embattled in a tough re-election campaign and because of this I had thought that while it would have been great to see Nancy Pelosi toppled in November, it just wasn’t going to happen.

But with the news that she may retire if the American people rise up and vote against her party in large numbers she may do what the voters in her district will not do; we have the chance to be rid of Nancy Pelosi once and for all.

If you are a conservative and you were planning on sitting out this election because you feared that this new group of Republicans would be co-opted by the current Republicans, and if you were planning on sitting out because you feel that nothing will change because the new Republicans will be no better than the RINOs that are in Washington currently, this should provide you with incentive to get up and head out to the polls next week.

Elections have consequences–many Americans have learned this the hard way over the last two years–and let us show Nancy Pelosi exactly how harsh those consequences can be. I implore every freedom loving American to go to the polls next week and vote these people out of office once and for all! And maybe, just maybe, Nancy Pelosi will willingly follow them out the door as well.

I don’t buy this story. I can’t see her stepping back into regular “life,” in as much as there is normal life in her district. She’s too much into the power and prestige.

The Dems have floated some false stuff in the past. While I can’t see a motivation for that here, you just can’t put anything past them.

I have to admit that I thought there might be a motive behind this announcement as well. Perhaps the Democrats feel that they can rally voters around a “do this for Nancy” cry in an attempt to bring out voters who plan to sit home next week. It doesn’t seem like this is a plan that would work, but maybe they thought it was worth a try.
I hope the story is true, I would love to see her hang her head in shame and walk away with her tail between her legs.
It may be just a pipe dream, but what a wonderful dream it is!

The possibility of this happening makes me positively giddy with delight. Like Matt, I am not so sure I believe it, but it doesn’t hurt to dream.

It is wonderful to think about and I agree, it is probably unlikely but I just can’t help hoping that this is true. There is only one way to find out.

That’s right, no sitting out!!! Voting the bums out is just a start. And getting Bela Pelosi out of there almost seems too good to be true.

It would be so nice to see her go away forever, but even if she stays on at least she will have her mouth duct taped shut. (Figuratively of course.)

I have to tell you, I would have to ‘see’ this to believe it. She has never struck me as someone who gives a darn about what other people think. She does what she wants and to hell with everyone else.

Having said that, I think she should leave. This woman has said things about the American people that should have had her booted to the curb along time ago. It is obvious, from her past statements – at least to me – that she has forgotten who she works for.
