Gunrunner: The head of the ATF may resign amidst growing pressure
It looks as if the botched government program, Operation Gunrunner, will claim its first casualty according to this article because the acting head of the ATF, Kenneth Melsonis, is set to resign amidst growing pressure. I say “first casualty” because in my opinion this is just the beginning and this news alone is not good enough; it is a beginning, but that is all it is.
Darrell Issa claimed last week that the Department of Justice was actively involved in a coverup over this growing scandal and it seems highly unlikely to me that Eric Holder–if he is engaged in a coverup–would simply be covering up for the acting head of another organization. Eric Holder is trying to make Kenneth Melson the fall guy in the hope that this will satiate the public and ameliorate the crisis his department now finds itself embroiled in.
If Darrell Issa is right, and Eric Holder and the DOJ are involved in a coverup, they were trying to protect one of their own–possibly Eric Holder himself, and maybe even Barack Obama. Why would Eric Holder risk the criminal charges of a coverup to protect someone that doesn’t work in his department? This idea simply does not hold water with me, it would be too risky a proposition for Eric Holder to protect a person who cannot indict the Attorney General directly, so there must be more to this story. If Eric Holder was involved in a coverup then Darrell Issa owes it to the American people to investigate this matter all the way to the bitter end.
Darrell Issa cannot be content with this one resignation, he must pursue this matter until we know exactly who knew what and when they knew it, for this order came from the highest levels in the Obama regime. I find it hard to believe that the United States government was allowing the sales of guns to known foreign criminals and Barack Obama was not notified about this beforehand, but even if we take this news at face value and we concede the point that Kenneth Melsonis is indeed the man responsible for authorizing Operation Gunrunner, and we concede the point that Melsonis was the man whom Eric Holder was trying to protect, it still does not take away from the accusation that Eric Holder and the Department of Justice was engaged in a coverup–or that this coverup was possibly ordered by Barack Obama.
If Darrell Issa is satisfied with Kenneth Melsonis’s resignation he should not be satisfied with the coverup that he alleged took place within the Department of Justice and he should open up a new inquiry into the DOJ, because as we learned with Watergate; it isn’t the crime, it’s the coverup.

I agree, Steve. This is not the time to let up on the pressure. Holder has to go. Even if I stretch my imagination to accept that Holder didn’t know, he should have known and has demonstrated his incapacity to manage the Department of Justice. And, if there was a cover up, we deserve to know how far it went and so does the government of Mexico.

Yes, even if Holder did not know he still needs to co for his incompetence.

I hope you will continue to follow this Steve. What could be worse than a dishonest DOJ that covers for murderers? On another matter, since you follow events in NH closely, PLEASE look into this, and perhaps help to inform all those that do not know, THIS is what is really going on in NH, and across the country. You may not know many, but I know far, far too many that are living this nightmare as a direct result of our JUSTICE system:
Very Disturbing, only hope people will rally support to stop the fathers victimization in America and Mr Ball’s Sacrifice will not be in vain.

I will continue to follow it, there has to be more to this than we know at this point. I had read about that story you linked to, but haven’t written about it.

Steve, there really is no mystery here. I have seen repeated cases of this where people are tortured and become hopeless in ever getting justice. I’ve attended court and followed cases where the insane occurs and no effort is made by judges to do what’s right. Throw losing everything, right down to your children into the mix, and what is left when there is absolutely no hope that you can ever win until the entire system is over hauled. That’s the reality of it and anyone could see that clearly by simply spending a few days in court or following the docket sheets on these matters. It’s very sad, if not outright frightening, and there’s not a damn thing that can be done about it until people thus far unaffected start believing or seeing what is going on.

Holder knew… This kind of this does NOT happen without some orders and approval from *on high*…

There is no doubt that he knew, and that means he lied during the investigation, I seem to remember something like this happening to Scooter Libby.

I would love to see the gavel come down on Eric Holder!

Well you knew somebody was slated to go under the bus. But Issa even said this was on the level of Iran-Contra. He won’t be satisfied with just one scalp.

I hope you are right, and I think you are. I don’t think Issa is going to let it go at this.

Kenneth Melsonis is being put up as a sacrificial lamb. A little red meat in hopes this does not go further up the food chain. They not only need to go up the food chain but clear out all the yes men/women down the food chain that said nothing. Holder needs to resign period. If he did not know about this (doubtful) he has to go because of incompetence. If he did know about it he should go to jail.

Either way he has to go, and I won’t be happy until that day arrives.

Did the ATF head resign after Ruby Ridge or WACO? Reno did not, why would Holder now?

I understand your point, but back then we didn’t have the 24 hour news cycle with all of the cable news channels, and we didn’t have the alternative media to keep the pressure on them. People were able to ride out things like this much easier than they can today. Weiner is a perfect example, he may have survived if this happened in the ’80s.

We had CNN and those Waco hearings. Ruby Ridge didn’t make the news, but Waco certainly did. Had Weiner been even a few years ago he would have survived… no Twitter!

Perfect. Keep it rolling for the next year and up until the election.

Yes, let this scandal carry on and we will be able to use that whole “culture of corruption” against the Democrats. So much for draining the swamp.

None of them above Melson are going to resign, that is a ridiculous speculation at best… It will take hard evidence and criminal prosecutions with convictions to get them out of position… No one in the Obama regime has the dignity to resign…

It may be ridiculous speculation, but damn it feels good!
