Gunrunner: The ATF fires the Gunrunner whistleblower

June 28, 2011

Operation Gunrunner is an expanding scandal which in the end my prove to be bigger than the Iran-Contra scandal, yet as the media ignores this story the scandal is imploding all around Eric Holder as he looks to find a scapegoat to take the fall for him. Eric Holder thought he found that fall guy in Kenneth Melson, but Darrell Issa said this wasn’t good enough because the scandal went higher than the acting head of the ATF. And then came the news that Kenneth Melson was refusing to resign because he did not want to be the fall guy, and in fact was looking forward to testifying in front of the Congress but has not yet been granted permission by the DOJ to testify.

This all reeks of a coverup of massive proportions being conducted by Eric Holder’s Justice Department in an effort to protect either himself or Barack Obama, and this story took yet another turn today with the news that the ATF is going to fire the man who blew the whistle on this scandal, Vince Cefalu.

Vince Cefalu says he was served with termination papers last week, and he says it’s because he’s been so vocal about ATF mismanagement, past and present. He was one of the whistleblowers who helped publicize the ATF’s role in allowing thousands of guns to be purchased by associates of Mexican drug cartels

The ATF is denying these charges, sort of:

ATF told Fox News it is not retaliating against Cefalu. In its termination letter, ATF says Cefalu leaked documents on a website he helped create, CleanupATF.org, and showed a “lack of candor” on past projects, including one dating back to 2005 in which Cefalu objected to the use of wiretaps to gather evidence. Cefalu says his role in exposing Project Gunrunner apparently was the last straw for his bosses

Vince Cefalu has been blowing the whistle on programs he thought were not quite on the level for years now–apparently when he was blowing the whistle while President Bush was in office this was allowed, but now that Barack Obama is in office, not so much–this latest whistleblowing was just the last straw. One has to wonder if this is because of who is now “leading” the nation.

I find it interesting that Cefalu would be punished for blowing the whistle on these questionable government activities, because I thought these whistleblowers provided a vital service to America because they let the public know when something was amiss within the federal government. At least that is what Barack Obama said in 2008:

We only know these crimes took place because insiders blew the whistle at great personal risk … Government whistleblowers are part of a healthy democracy and must be protected from reprisal

In 2008 Barack Obama claimed that these people “must be protected from reprisal” but he remains eerily silent on the news that the man who blew the whistle on Operation Gunrunner has been fired; you would think that Barack Obama would herald this man as a hero according to what he has said in the past, but he wants Vince Cefalu to go away quietly, and he wants to prevent Kenneth Melson from testifying in front of the Congress and I think we all know the reason why this is the case.

The blatancy of this is staggering. The timing of Cefalu’s firing is beyond coincidence, and I’m not buying that BS about it being because of his website or “lack of candor”. It appears that Holder knows he is going to go down, and is determined to take as many as he can, innocent or guilty, down with him when he goes. And when Holder falls, the next domino is barack.

I agree, Holder is doing everything that he can to hold onto his job, but the effort is futile and maybe he will end up being the fall guy in order to save Obama.

Typical liberal reasoning. The rules apply to everyone else, but not to them.

Chuck Grassley and even…Elijah Cummings said these guys would be protected from retaliation. Fly right and follow the rules and you will be hung out to dry.
