Darrell Issa to investigate possible illegal fundraising by Barack Obama in the White House
Darrell Issa is requesting documents related to meetings Barack Obama has had in the White House in recent weeks because of the possibility that Barack Obama was engaged in illegally raising campaign donations.
The California Republican sent a letter Wednesday to DNC Executive Director Patrick Gaspard demanding all DNC records, including invitation lists and RSVPs, relating to a policy discussion President Barack Obama held with business leaders in the White House’s Blue Room on March 7. The session was organized by the DNC and all the guests were donors to Obama’s 2008 campaign.
Issa’s letter also seeks records of any other DNC events that took place or were planned in “any room of the White House, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, the New Executive Office Building, or any other federal property on or off the White House grounds.” He also wants records regarding the use of the White House for a video Obama made for a raffle his campaign is running that seeks donations in exchange for a chance to win dinner with Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
First let me state that I find it totally inappropriate for the president to hold a raffle where the prize is dinner with the president, and I find it to be out of place to shoot a commercial for a raffle in the White House; this seems well below the office of the presidency and extremely tacky even if this does turn out to be legal. However, the question is, was this–as well as these other meetings–legal?
Federal election law prohibits the use of federal buildings for campaign purposes, but the Obama regime claims that these events all occurred within the “residential” portion of the White House. He also claims that former presidents–including President Bush–have used these same “residential” areas for fundraising. Is this true? I don’t know but we need to find out. At this point I find it hard to believe anything that comes out of Barack Obama’s mouth because of his fleeting relationship with the truth in the past.
This is certainly something that needs to be looked into and Darrell Issa has taken the first steps. But Darrell Issa is a busy man and while if it is determined that Barack Obama did indeed break federal election law he will be required to return these donations, how much of a difference will this make when the president is expected to raise over $1 billion?
Don’t get me wrong, this is an important issue and one that need to be investigated, but not at the expense of continuing the Gunrunner investigation. If Darrell Issa can investigate both issues without either investigation suffering I am all for it. But Operation Gunrunner is turning into what could perhaps be one of the biggest scandals in the history of the United States and I would hate to see Darrell Issa get sidetracked on this issue.
If he can do both; bring it on!

If anybody can do it, it appears Darrell Issa can. More power to him.

I just worry he will lose focus on Gunrunner, I am not sure how he will have enought time to do both. If he can, I am all for it.

I agree that the Gun Walker investigation should be Issa’s top priority right now. Although I don’t like that Obama may have used the White House for raising campaign funds, taking that on at this time could make the Republicans to look petty. I’m saying that it is not illegal I’m just saying it may be perceived as a political rather than an investigation of a crime.

Good point, and he is on the verge of uncovering a crime within the Obama regime. That should be first and foremost. Although judging by the way the regime delays releasing documents he still may have plenty of time before he is even ready to investigate this.

Let’s hope Issa includes the illegal “global” fundraising by Obama during the 2008 campaign as well.

OBama did receive quite a bit og money that nobody can account for, I don’t think this would go back that far.

I thinks Issa should focus on the gun runner issue. There is definitely something there. Possibly criminal activity that may have led to the death of 2 American citizens.

I believe there was criminal activity and I think Holder compounded it with his perjury, I hope Issa doesn’t let this fall by the wayside.

The house oversight committee is very busy. I was thinking that maybe Issa would overextend himself as well, but at the same time, he’s not the only one on the committee. He’s got help. He did say he was going to do this though. Nice to see a politician actually do what he promised.

Good point, it isn’t like he is doing all of this work himself, and yes it is noce to see him following through on his promise.

Agree that Issa does not want to come across as out to get Obama, It would no doubt diminsh the public reaction to his Gun Runner investigation when it all hits the fan. .

Yes, he has to appear first and foremost to be FOR the law rather than simply being AGAINST Barack Obama, this is an issue that needs to be looked into but he does have a thin line to walk here.

Should we expect anything but the least from our Pondscum in Chief?
#1 Operation Gun Runner [period] this makes Watergate look like stealing bubblegum at the local 7-11.
plus I doubt that using the Office of the President for Illegal campaigning, investigation would carry much weight when he’s out of office anyway?
Aloha!

Operation Gunrunner could turn out to be one of the biggest scandals in US history, dwarfing Watergate and that is why it is important that Issa does not lose focus. I hope your prediction about Obama comes true!

Issa certainly is a man of his word! It really isn’t his fault that Obama has committed so many investigatable offenses, Obama is going to keep him busy.

This administration will stop at nothing to raise money. And with the media talking heads running cover for him why would BHO worry. His next big fund raiser will be his birthday bash on 08/03 when he will charge $35,000 per couple to attend. How much will this cost the tax payer for security etc.?

And that just happens to be the day after the debt ceiling debate. If the debt ceiling debate is not over by then how will it look if Obama is out partying?
