Debbie Wasserman Schultz accuses the Republicans of trying to impose a dictatorship

July 27, 2011

To paraphrase Barack Obama’s characterization of Debbie Wasserman Schultz; the “charming” woman with the “dazzling smile” (why NOW didn’t find these comments sexist and degrading I am not sure) has made a few headlines today when she declared that the Republicans were looking to impose a dictatorship through fear by trying to “spark panic and chaos” over the possibility of not raising the debt ceiling.

I find these comments interesting because for all of the vitriol coming from the left about compromise, it is the left which killed the only plan that has been voted on to this point. The House passed “cut, cap, and balance” but Barack Obama promised to veto this bill sight unseen and Harry Reid held a vote in the Senate on tabling the legislation without even having a debate on the bill. It seems to me that if the left were serious about compromise they would have at least sent the “cut, cap, and balance” bill to the floor of the Senate for debate where they could have made changes to it before holding a reconciliation in an attempt to find common ground. But Harry Reid wanted nothing to do with reconciliation or compromise.

With the “cut, cap, and balance” bill DOA, John Boehner went back to the drawing board and began drafting a new plan; but before this plan was even finished the White House was once again threatening a veto and Harry Reid was saying he would not allow it to come to the floor for a vote. Harry Reid is supposedly working on a bill that nobody has seen and the president is supporting this bill even though it doesn’t exist. Meanwhile the president and the Senate have not actually introduced any plan other than an unwritten plan (plot) to kill any Republican proposal. It seems to me as if the Senate will not pass, and the president will not sign, any bill which does not include everything that the president has asked for. And they are doing this for purely political reasons; Barack Obama and Harry Reid feel as if they can shut down the government and blame the Republicans for the shutdown even though they have stifled the Republican proposals to avoid a default at every opportunity presented to them.

If there is a party looking to impose a dictatorship it would be the Democrat party, not the Republican party.

And which party is it that is trying to instill panic in chaos among the seniors, the poor, and the veterans? The answer is simple, Barack Obama and the Democrat party. Barack Obama and his minions are all over the television claiming that there will be no money to pay either social security or the military when in fact there will be money to pay these groups as long as Barack Obama prioritizes these groups. If the elderly do not receive social security and the veterans do not receive their pay it will be because Barack Obama didn’t feel as if it was important enough to pay them, and he will make this decision for political reasons because he think the Republican will get blamed if granny has to eat dog food for a month.

I find this tactic to not only be morally corrupt and dishonest, but also despicable and disgusting as well. What kind of leader steps in front of the American people and tries to scare the hell out of them instead of trying to instill confidence in them? The government takes in something like $200 billion a month–more than enough to pay the interest on the debt, which will keep us out of default, the military and social security with money left over. At that point it would be up to the president to decide who does and who does not get paid. If social security and military paychecks do not go out it will be because Barack Obama thought there was something more important to spend this money on.

But I also blame the Republicans for not getting this message out; they should be out in front of the American people explaining this to them so that they will not fall for the fear mongering tactics of Dear Leader. Allen West is sponsoring a bill which would assure national defense is funded, and social security recipients and veterans are paid yet this bill is still languishing in no-man’s land. This bill would not be necessary if the president’s integrity wasn’t in question but it is, because I feel he would halt these payments just to score political points.

And Debbie Wasserman Schultz claims the Republicans are trying to impose a dictatorship?

In other words- from the WH
    July 26, 2011
    (House Rules)
    STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY
    S. 627 – Budget Control Act of 2011
The Administration strongly opposes House passage of the amendment in the nature of a substitute to S. 627. If S. 627 is presented to the President, the President’s senior advisors would recommend that he veto this bill.

By the way, she has the charm of a snake

He is basically just goeing to veto everything, and eventually he will be offered almost everything he wants.

It is frustrating that the Democrats are allowed to get their message out but the Republicans just don’t seem to be able to do it. Why aren’t the Republicans out there talking about West’s priority bill?!

This is another one of those posts where I am just too dumbfounded to make much of a comment. Wasserman-Schultz is the most delusional person I have ever seen.

On the contrary. Being virtually delusional has to be a plus in that position, if not a pre-requisite.

Didn’t Howard Dean once occupy that post?

The conservatives could stand on top of the capitol building and scream out their message every day and it would still not be heard. The debate is defined by the media spin and if it doesn’t fit into a 30 second spot on the news or a paragraph on the front page most of America is not listening. Just keep the checks coming – welfare, S.S., unemployment, disability, etc. etc. and all is well.

That is a good point, we couldn’t count on the media to cover it if they did try to shout out their message.

Pure political hype, that’s all that is happening. Combine that with the fact that the Republicans can’t seem to find a way to get their story out and we have a no win situation.

Is this less extreme than saying that Obama is trying to destroy the country?

Arthur Brooks had it right in his WSJ editorial Monday in which he argued that opponents of statism need to make their (our) arguments in moral, not technical, terms.

I understand your point, but Barack Obama said he wanted to fundamentally change America, which means he wants to change the foundation America was built on and that foundation is the constitution. Obama is a socialist and he wants to remake America in a more socialistic mode. If a person is a supporter of Obama they may think this is the way to go, but to people who oppose Obama they see this statement as an indictment of Obama’s hostility towards the constitution so from their perspective it does seem as if Obama is out to destroy the country. Not literally, but constitutionally.
