Gunrunner: The Washington Post’s role in Fast and Furious
According to this article, the Washington Post had a team of reporters which was basically embedded with the ATF for nine months while working on a report on the violence at the Mexican border. And they were working pretty closely with the ATF from the sounds of it:
This team worked for months with the ATF so closely that when the article was published the paper, it had prepared maps and charts based on ATF-provided statistics. Its online presentation included a video narrated by ATF Special Agent J. Dewey Webb, and a video of an interrogation of an illegal alien picked up in a weapons case in a private room with an ATF agent, apparently without the detainee knowing he was being recorded.
On December 13th the Washington Post ran the article:
On Dec. 13, the Washington Post ran a blockbuster article in its “Secret Life of Guns” series subtitled, “As Mexico drug violence runs rampant, U.S. guns tied to crime south of border” that focused on the arms trade across the Mexican border. In the article, the Post printed a list of the top 12 gun stores responsible for selling guns traced to crimes in Mexico. On top of the list was Lone Wolf Trading in Glendale, Ariz.
The Washington Post ran an article with statistics and charts provided to them by the ATF, and judging from the title, this article was an attempt at blaming American gun shops for the violence at the Mexican border; the article went so far as to list the top 12 offending gun shops and the number one offender was listed as Lone Wolf Trading.
The day after the Washington Post ran this article, December 14th, Brian Terry was shot and killed by an ak47 sold to Mexican criminals at the Lone Wolf Trading gun shop–forced to do so against the will of the owner at the behest of the federal government.
The author of the article linked to above goes on to claim that this means the embedded reporters at the Washington Post had to have known about Fast and Furious and realized that a nefarious plot was underway to hand weapons to known Mexican criminals and remained silent; and while that may very likely be the case I am not willing to make that assumption just yet.
Most likely they were willing dupes to the ATF and the Obama regime: the Washington Post had an anti-gun agenda and the ATF provided them with the information they wanted–as well as the information the ATF wanted reported, while leaving out the little tidbit that the government had authorized these sales–they did not care where the information came from, or how it was received, as long as they could run with their story.
The Washington Post, the ATF, the DOJ, and the Obama regime in general all had the story they wanted; everyone was happy until Brian Terry fell victim to the Obama regime’s disastrous operation. Whether or not the Washington Post reporters knew that the federal government was forcing these gun shops to sell weapons to known criminals even after the gun shop owners complained about the policy or not, this appears to me to be more proof that the federal government was involved in this operation for the sole purpose of creating an environment which would make the American people more accepting of the need for strict gun control laws.
What other possible reason could the federal government have for embedding Washington Post reports with the ATF during a top secret operation if not to provide the Obama regime with the propaganda it so desperately wanted? Think about this for a minute: the ATF provided the Washington Post will all of the information and statistics about how many American guns were turning up at Mexican crime scenes, along with the charts to back up the data, and all the while the ATF knew that it was the federal government which was responsible for letting these guns walk across the border in the first place.
But as I have said many times in the past, the Obama regime believes the end justifies the means and in this case the end game was gun control. And if this meant that the federal government would have to supply the criminals with the weapons, and then create a report to give to the Washington Post in order to create a crisis which needed government intervention that is exactly what they would–and did–do.
This may be the most blatant attempt at using the media as a propaganda tool that I can think of in recent memory.

This is something straight out of Joseph Goebbels’ playbook.

we knew it was bogus when Media Matters attacked you for covering this story. WaPo may have been dupes, but MM is not. Now their tax exempt status is being challenged.

I hope they nail MM for the tax exempt status, it is a joke that these people are paying no taxes.

I had heard rumors that WaPo knew the truth about the Fast and Furious operation for some time. Now the cat is out of the bag. It ‘s interesting that WaPo just recently started running stories on the Fast and Furious scandal. Trying to cover their butts, I would say.
Good work, Steve.

I hadn’t heard that before, maybe they were willing accomplices all along.

The downgrading of the US credit for the first time in history IS big news and an indictment of the Obama regime. It is actually surprising that the media is bothering to cover the downgrade. While the media is still ignoring the corruption in the Obama regime, at least they are covering the ineptitude.

They cover it because the media is blaming the tea party. Amazing how the sole reason for the downgrade was the the republicans in congress refusal to compromise in the debt ceiling debate (when in fact they passed two plans through the house, one bi partisan that would no doubt have prevented this), as if the misererable deficit and unrelenting spending over the last 3plus years BY THE DEMS has nothing to do with it,
they see no way out but to blame this economy on anything or anyone but Obama, we all know it but they control the narrative,
talking with few people I would consider moderate but do not watch fox or anything but the main stream and they insist it was the tea parties at fault during the debate?
something has to be done about the (state run) main stream media or we will always be running in mudd

That is a very good point, but I dont think the American people are going to fall for it. The MSM can spin this anyway they want to but the truth is that the Tea Party didn’t vote for this bill and in the end the people will look at which party was in charge when this happened. At least I hope so…..
There is a reason why the MSM ratings continue to fall and that is because the people aren’t buying what they are selling.

Thanks for keeping up with this story that just keeps percolating but not bubbling yet. So many stories these days to keep up with.

You are welcome, it isn’t always easy because there is no much going on right now.

Wow very good job on this. Did the ATF use the WaPo or did the WaPo allowed itself to be used to further a common political objective?

Thank you. That is the million dollar question.

Great job staying on top of this story Steve. Something is terribly wrong in America when we can’t even count on the watchdogs of the republic to do their jobs to protect the liberty of the people. When you can use the MSM as a propaganda weapon against the citizens of this great country, shouldn’t we be asking how we got to this point and what can we do to change the course. The founders were always leery of the newspaper because they understood how they could be used as a tool to advance King George’s cause. It appears King George has returned.

Time to grab one of these Wa Po “journalist/ operatives” and find out what they know. I got the water if you got the board (joking). This is sick. Once again, though, nothing here to really surprise me. I’ve become so desensitized to the news lately. It’ll take nothing short of martial law or an asteroid impact to surprise me at this point.

There is a whole line of responsibility and liability here, like lines in a spider web, eminating from the center. I believe the only way this will really get resolved is to impeach the spider. The qualifications of the spider to be in control are significantly questionable. If they are proven to be fraudulent, the entire web will fall, and with incriminations and recriminations throughout the entire executive branch.
