Gunrunner: Three people inside the White House knew about Fast and Furious

September 4, 2011

One of my Gunrunner update posts included the news that at least one White House staffer knew about the deadly Gunrunner scandal, and that person was Kevin O’Reilly–the White House Security Director for North America. We are now learning that at least three people in the White House also knew about Operation Gunrunner.

CBS is reporting (you read that right, CBS! Could this mean that the scandal is finally getting big enough that the mainstream media can no longer ignore it?) that besides Kevin O’Reilly there are two others in the White House who received briefings on Operation Fast and Furious, and they are Dan Restrepo and  Greg Gatjanis. The former being a Latin American advisory and the latter being a national security official. There are email connections between these three White House officials and the ATF.

The White House is still denying any knowledge of guns being allowed to walk into Mexico and is claiming that the emails which were released don’t mention that the government was allowing the sale of weapons to criminals. But what type of criminal would be incompetent enough to make a “paper” trail about an ongoing scheme? Naturally these emails would remain bland enough as to not incriminate the people involved. That does not mean that no crime was committed, that simply means that more investigations must be done on the White House’s connection to the scandal because, as the saying goes, where there is smoke there is fire.

It is becoming harder and harder to believe that several people in the White House were briefed on this scandal and not one of them even once mentioned it to the president in one of his daily briefings. I believe that this scandal is getting very close to Barack Obama and the fact that CBS is beginning to cover this story can mean only one of two things; either this scandal is about to close in on Barack Obama and it is getting too big for the mainstream media to ignore, or; CBS is jumping on this story now in order to try to spin it in favor of the president’s ignorance of the scandal.

Either way it is fine with me because at least this story will be in the news–which means in the people’s’ minds–where is should have been all along and the more outlets that are covering it the better.

I would bet that there are a few more too, ferreting them out is the problem…

I would be surprised if these men did not share information on this program with others in the White House.

Thanks for the update, Steve. It is a good sign that CBS is taking notice. This Obama government is rotten to the core. How Issa is going to get to the bottom of it , I don’t know. He is already being called a racist.

You are welcome, I don’t know whether he will get to the bottom of it or not with Holder continuing to stonewall the investigation. Issa is going to be attacked for this investigation but I don’t think that will stop him at this point.

I doubt the President knew the details, but I think he may have been told something along the lines of “We’re having problems with a sting operation . . .”

I don’t think anyone in the government was criminally trying to supply anyone with guns, I think someone (or someones) was criminally stupid and exercised profoundly poor judgment. Everyone involved needs to be cashiered and an independent counsel set to determine what laws were broken, and prosecute them.

I think it’s a shame to punish officials who thought they were doing something that would have good results, but if they’re let off the hook, the next crew might be much smarter and set out to do on purpose what these idiots stumbled into.

And Holder . . he’s got embarrassing pictures of the President, I’m certain – Obama just has to grit his teeth and fire the dude.

Take good care and may God bless us all!

There is a very good chance that Obama didn’t know the details of the operation, but there is also a chance that he did. This is why I believe it might be time for a special investigator. The people currently being blamed for this are not high enough uo on the list to authorize it and I have no doubt that Holder knew all the details from the beginning.
I don’t know how you can say that nobody was trying to criminally supply anyone with guns because that is exactly what this plan authorized.

Drip, drip, drip. The problem with keeping secrets is that they are almost always revealed in the end. All we have to do it wait. It’ll keep on coming.

We just can’t wait too long because that is exactly what Eric Holder wants; we wants this investigation to drag out until after the election in the hopes that Democrats regain the House and kill the investigation.

If CBS is reporting it I would assume the reason would be to identify the White House fall guys. Put the names out there and use them to insulate the acting POTUS.

A very real possibility, I wouldn’t put it passed the media to attempt something like this.

It looks like those emails were released by the White House to further the story that a few low level guys botched an otherwise honorable operation. It’s basically the same story they’ve been pushing since they got caught. Between that and Holder’s stonewalling, that tells me there is much more to this story.

I agree, these are only the emails the White House decided to release, there is no doubt in my mind that there are more and we need to see all of them.

I used to believe that the people who were elected/appointed into the Executive, Judicial and Legislative offices by “we the people” were the best qualified. No more. There is so much voter fraud going on, we have people in there that have no business even trying to be in those positions. The older I get, I guess the more cynical I have become and I no longer think the “best” of people, but question everything about them. The question that was brought up about whether the president knew about this is one of those times. I know it goes up to the Attorney General and I don’t have much doubt that the president also knew about it given all the other happenings that are going on at this time. I feel that our government has sunk to an all time low in honesty and morals. Agree with me or not, it doesn’t matter, that is my opinion on it.

Well, I happen to agree with everything that you just wrote. We have reached the point in this country where we simply cannot believe anything our elected officials say. There is no doubt in my mind that Holder knew about this from the beginning.

Steve, where do we go when, as American people, we love our country and it has turned on us?

I honestly don’t know other than a revolt at the ballot box But are there enough of us to pull it off? You said the government has turned on us and that is exacly how I feel, it is time for the people to take our government back.

I also am not blaming everyone in office, there are some very qualified and honest people in there, but they just can’t offset the bad that is being done. This has to be taken care of soon, the papers given are just a stall tactic, in my opinion. I think a special prosecutor needs to be looking into this, but you know he/she will have walls put up on whatever is being looked at. The Attorney General, so far, has a wall around him, but it is crumbling. I doubt that he is strong enough to take the hit for the president, if it indeed goes all the way up the chain. Hopefully Rep. Issa has more than he is letting us know about. Maybe he is hiding that ace to bring out when necessary. This has turned into an extremely botched ordeal that I am sure they would love to just go away, problem is, we won’t let it and they hate us for it.

It is hard not to lump all the politicians together, but it is so frustrating to think that those at the haed of our government cannot be trusted. I do think that Issa is only telling us what he wants us to know, this could be part of his effort to catch Holder in a lie.

I, also, hope that Issa is shrewd and cunning and can play the “game” they are playing. With every lie they tell, I hope he can find facts to nail them. I don’t like being played for a fool and that is exactly what this administration is doing to us.

I think he doesn’t want Holder to know everything that he knows so that he can catch Holder in a trap. It has been a slow process, but hopefully it will pay off in the end.
