Gunrunner: Eric Holder digs in his heels

October 7, 2011

There are only two possible scenarios regarding Eric Holder when it comes to the deadly Fast and Furious scandal; either he was grossly incompetent and negligent or he authorized the operation and was duplicitous in the death of at least 200 Mexicans and two Americans. Eric Holder has weighed these two options and has decided that is is better for him if he were to be considered grossly incompetent.

When he testified before the Congress under oath Eric Holder stated that he had only learned of the scandal after it became a scandal but recently released White House emails show that Eric Holder was receiving weekly update on the operation. This news has lead to increased calls by Republicans in the Congress for Eric Holder to resign, and the heat has been turned up on the embattled head of the “Justice” Department.

Eric Holder is digging in his heels and is denying that he misled the Congress and has no intention of resigning, claiming that this is nothing but “political posturing” by those Republicans who seek justice in this case.

My testimony was truthful and accurate and I have been consistent on this point throughout. I have no recollection of knowing about Fast and Furious or of hearing its name prior to the public controversy about it,” Holder said in a five-page letter sent to Congress Friday afternoon. “Prior to early 2011, I certainly never knew about the tactics employed in the operation
He is standing by his claim that he never heard of Fast and Furious before the scandal erupted onto the public stage even in light of the emails that show otherwise, but he is hedging his bets by mentioning that he didn’t know about the details of the operation. He is doing this because he knows it is entirely likely that Darrell Issa will be able to prove that he did in fact know about the operation. But still he is ignoring the fact that he received weekly updates on the operation.

He appears to be setting up the “I didn’t read those emails so I didn’t know what was going on” defense; in other words, he is setting up the grossly incompetent defense because he feels this offers him the best chance at avoiding criminal prosecution and jail time. While being grossly incompetent may be a better option for Eric Holder than being considered criminally duplicitous, this still renders him unfit for the position he holds. Both are grounds for dismissal and if Eric Holder decides to claim he didn’t read the emails regarding Fast and Furious this is still something for which he must resign for this is only slightly less egregious than authorizing the operation which led to so many deaths.

He should be toast, but everybody in the know was aware that he wasn’t up for the job from the start. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find out he is telling the truth about not delving into the emails. It’s always seemed to me that the high ups in Obama’s administration love the power and hate the work. That’s how we felt about Napolitano when she was governor of AZ.

You could have a point. maybe he really is that disengaged from his duty, or too focused on other issues to care. But I still feel as if he was one of the people who authorized this scandal and it says something when a person would think appearing incompetant is a good option.

Steve, the whole administration has been incompetent and it has worked so far for them. All they had to do is act like they didn’t know they COULDN’T do something and see what the people said. Most people made excuses for them. Then they would move on to the next item on their list and do the same. They have gotten pretty far doing that, haven’t they?

Yes they have and it really says something that the regime feels as if being incompetent is better than admitting that they are criminals, because those are the only two options.

Like Obama, Holder has no shame and he knows with this Senate an impeachment won’t fly.

So true, it will be up to us to rid ourselves of these criminals because I don’t see Holder going anywhere on his own.

Appalling that the head of the DOJ can sit before congress and, at best, dodge the fast & furious bullet. It is really a commentary on how dismal things are when the head of law enforcement for the country cannot be trusted to tell the truth. Sad.

Sad really is the best way to describe this situation. We simply cannot trust our “Justice” Department to uphold the law, but it is worse than that because we also cannot trust them to follow it either.

Good thing that people are finally seeing what is going on, even ones that would never have gone against them are starting to turn….I am talking about the MSM.

It is getting to the point where the MSM cannot ignore this scandal; they are being dragged into it kicking and screaming, but at least they are starting to cover it.

Stonewalling in Washington never works. Nixon tried it. Holder might have had some time bought for him by being a Democrat but eventually he will become such a liability that even his best pal (Obama) will not be able to protect him.

It also makes it worse as Nixon also found out. Would I love to see this end the same way for Obama.

The same ending won’t be enough for me, Steve. There needs to be prison time on this.

How can he continue to deny this? Isn’t there video of him in 2009 bragging about the program?

Scandal of the century and the MSM,s answer is to use the Bush did it to storyline in an attempt to call off the dogs.
It is a sad state when when a story as big as this is pushed to the back of the headlines, making the media criminally negligent.
A little advice for the dying newspapers and major networks.
Americans are on to the racket and until you show some journalistic integrity expect the slide to continue.
    Weve fuckin had it.
Ameucan thinker has a great article on the scandal..

Yep, the media is not going to fully cover this story but it no longer matters because the alternative media will not let this story die. Obama may have gotten away with something like this just a few short years ago, but not any more.

Like so many in the Obama administration, Eric is in over his head. Barack has surrounded himself with fools and is now Captain of a “ship of fools”, a ship that will be bashed on the rocks of destiny.

You are right; Obama wasn’t ready for this job so you would have thought he would bring in people wh would be ready but he didn’t, he surrounded himself with people as incompetant as he is and now we are paying the price.

My best guess is that none of them realized how “stupid” they all were. You are right about US paying the price…there will be alot of repairs to be done when we get them out ouf OUR HOUSE>

As with all politicians and lawyers, you must look at the semantics. “Project Gunrunner” is the title used by the DOJ.

There is absolutely no way that Eric Holder was not aware of the operation, remember when he first became AG, he went to Mexico and bragged about the operation in great detail to the Mexican officials back in 2009. Obama also funded the program with an initial $10,000,000.00 so he also was fully aware of the operation. They are both up to their nostrils in this program.

The plan was to allow guns to walk to Mexico and cause carnage and slaughter, which is exactly what occurred. Unfortunately their program came to an abrupt end when the Border Agent and the Ice Agent were killed with some of the weapons that walked, and some of the agent became whistle blowers.

Obama and Holder had planned to tell the American people that he can not allow the slaughter of American’s to occur in the United States as it had occurred in Mexico and he therefore has to protect American citizen’s by taking away their “Second Amendment” gun rights.

This Administration is completely out of control and hopefully Congressman Derrick Issa and Senator Chuck Grassley will be able to prove their complicity and end their reign.
