$1 million lottery winner is still using food stamps

March 7, 2012

Every once in awhile I read a story which just makes me shake my head in amazement, and causes me to wonder what the hell is going on in the United States of America and in the minds of a growing percentage of the people of this great nation. This is one of those stories.

Amanda Clayton hit the Michigan state lottery for $1 million yet is still using $200 worth of food stamps a month because she doesn’t have a job. This is how she justified her abuse of the food stamp system:

I feel that it’s okay because I mean, I have no income and I have bills to pay,” she said. “I have two houses”

She has two houses and bills to pay so she needs this extra cash to help her make ends meet even though she hit the lottery. She also purchased a new car and hell, somebody has to help her pay for it, so why not let the American people help her make ends meet?

This is the epitome of the entitlement mindset which is gripping many people in the United States who feel the government owes them something. This woman has more than most Americans and yet it isn’t enough; she feels it is okay for taxpayers to help her buy food even though she had an unbelievable stroke of luck and hit the lottery. And this is the mindset we are battling as we try to bring entitlement spending under control in this country; this is the mindset that Barack Obama is promulgating with his class warfare rhetoric pinning the 1% against the 99%.

But it might not be all her fault; if the government is still willing to provide her with this money then that says as much about the system as it says about her. Perhaps the government is unaware that Amanda Clayton won the lottery; if this is the case then it seems as if she is committing fraud, but her statement about the government not cutting her off makes me wonder if she did indeed inform the government about her winnings and they refused to acknowledge this new income. The story is not clear on this, but nonetheless this is the mindset that is being bred within the United States.

This is the fight we are up against in the upcoming election and with so many people so callously willing to accept government handouts–even when they are clearly not justified–it is going to be extremely hard to beat Barack Obama with a platform that states the government must cut back on entitlements. This argument flies in the face of so many people, who will be voting to keep the government money flowing in, that I fear we have lost not only the next election, but all elections in the future until we finally reach the point where the United States economy totally collapses and there will be no more money left for anybody to collect–even those who really need it.

I believe that this moron in particular is perhaps the best argument against unlimited entitlements…..WM

She certainly is! I have no problem with people seeking and receiving temporary benefits from the government, but there needs to be a limit because people will abuse it and this is a perfect example.

She knows what she is doing is wrong, but she is blaming the government for not stopping her for doing what is wrong. Just another person who is not willing to own up for their own actions.

A failure of government? Yes. A failure of parents to raise their children? Definitely. Very sad indeed.

That’s a good point Harrison. This person obviously is lacking something here that should have been taught her when she was growing up.

This reminds me of the early 80’s. In Canada, we were being flooded with Mexican workers coming to work seasonal. (Not a racist, just the facts ma’am) Some came here, worked here and never went home after the season was over. They continued to work but used other peoples Identification to get paid. (Names of others who went back) Because their were cases where their names were the same and their names were popular.. John or Johan, Issac or Henry, etc..and their last names also…

I was embarrassed by written jokes about our government and how easy it was to pull this off. They worked year round in Canada and sent money home in the Winter to pay for their families and farms down there. I worked as a receptionist in one of these places for 8 years. Never suspected a thing.

Near the end of my employment.. I had an employee come to me. He sat and said.. ‘We have a problem.’ I asked why? He said you have been paying me for three years.. but that’s not me and my cousin needs to use his own ID. I was shocked. The ID he used was his cousin’s who lives in Detroit and their names and birth dates and places or birth were exactly the same the same. He never paid taxes and was never caught. He wanted to ‘become’ legal and begin to use his proper information. I had to fire Mr. John Doe and hire the New Windsor John Doe.

I think it’s our system. Of course that may not happen today but I was in awe..

If you hadn’t said Canada, I would have thought you were talking about California….One of my favorite quotes:

Now as of old the gods give men all good things, excepting only those that are baneful and injurious and useless. These, now as of old, are not gifts of the gods: men stumble into them themselves because of their own blindness and folly…..Democritus

They do know how to game the system, don’t they?

The video of her rationale of her position on the matter is rare indeed! Can not compute, or rather one of Obama’s mental drones.

Yep, she honestly didn’t think she was doing anything wrong and it is because of this entitlement mentality that Obama has helped to promote.

The powers that be learned of this and now she’s off the Food Stamp train and there apparently will be an investigation for fraud.

    All’s well that ends well.

I had heard that she finally got kicked off the food stamps, but I hadn’t heard she will be investigated. Great news!

This poor girl, oops she’s not poor anymore, has more than likely been on food stamps most of her life and views them as owed to her—just another gimme, gimme gal. Reminds me of Sanda Fluke! I’m glad they finally pulled them. I suspect such fraud is far more common than those in charge would ever admit.

I agree Ron, she just assumed it was her “right” to collect food stamps and even after winning $1 million she still assumed the government owed her this money.
