The Los Angeles Times goes after Ann Romney as an elitist for riding horses

May 22, 2012

In an effort to toxify Mitt Romney the Washington Post reported a story about Mitt Romney beating up another boy when he was a teenager some fifty years ago (as if teenage boys acting stupidly was all that noteworthy) but that wasn’t enough to discredit Mitt Romney as a man so the Washington Post struck again. This time the paper went back a little bit further–one hundred and fifty years or so–in an attempt to cast dispersions on Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith. This article was disguised as a discussion piece on whether or not his faith would hurt Mitt Romney, when in reality the piece was written to sow the seeds of doubt in the minds of voters about the Mormon church.

And now the Los Angeles Times has joined the fray in an attempt to paint Ann Romney (and Mitt by proxy) as an elitist who is out of touch with the average American voter with an article entitled “Ann Romney and dressage: A pricey private world.” The article appears to be somewhat sympathetic to the would be First Lady but continually throws around the costs of her horses and upkeep of those horses while taking about the “pricy”and “rarified” sport of dressage. Much like the Washington Post piece on the Mormon church in 1857 the  intent here is clear. In this case they are trying to show how the Romney’s simply are not regular Americans but rather part of the 1%.

Ann Romney feels as if the sport of dressage helps her to deal with her debilitating disease because it has helped her to gain strength back which she has lost over the years.

Romney, who rode horses as a girl, began riding seriously as an adult after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998. “I was losing most of the function of my right side,” she testified at her deposition on June 3, 2010. “And I decided I needed to go back and do what I loved before I couldn’t do it anymore.”
She soon fell in love with dressage, a fussy Olympic sport that is also called “horse ballet.” In dressage, a horse moves in delicate, dance-like steps to music as the rider, formally clad in top hat and tails, imperceptibly guides the animal.
Because it requires tremendous muscle control, dressage also provided Romney unexpected therapeutic benefits.

Riding exhilarated me; it gave me a joy and a purpose,” Romney told the Chronicle of the Horse magazine in 2008. “When I was so fatigued that I couldn’t move, the excitement of going to the barn and getting my foot in the stirrup would make me crawl out of bed

So, Ann Romney found something that helped her deal with her illness and while most Americans cannot afford to participate in this sport are we really to begrudge her because she can? Apparently the Los Angeles Times thinks so.

These are all now legitimate issues in the campaign and yet the mainstream media is not willing to look into Barack Obama’s past which includes the following: relationships with Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Tony Rezco, Louis Farrakhan , Reverend Wright, and a communist journalist, Frank Marshall Davis, who just might be his real father. His bio which stated he was born in Kenya or the possibility that he touted that Kenyan birth to gain entry into Columbia as a foreign exchange student, as well as his admitted use of cocaine or his seeking out of radicals, communists, and Marxists while in college. And the fact that two of his relatives are in this country illegally. (One who just happened to get political asylum after Barack Obama took office.)

The mainstream media never questions Michelle Obama’s 20 hour a week part time $300,000 a year position at the University of Chicago Medical Center –a position so vital to the hospital that it remains unfilled since Michelle Obama left it to become the First Lady.

None of those issues from Barack or Michelle Obama’s past are fair game, but Mitt and Ann Romney’s past is. The mainstream media’s bias is in full display here so is it any wonder why people no longer have much faith in the mainstream media? This campaign was set up to be about class warfare, about pitting  the bourgeois against the proletariats, the moment Barack Obama called OWS into action and the mainstream media is all too happy to oblige. Hell, you have to have priorities, right?

We don’t elect a First Lady. And thank God MO doesn’t regularly sit a horse.

This shows us that while they are digging they really can’t find anything of import to report, they are getting desperate and this is all they have.

This is really getting sickening. I suppose it shouldn’t surprise me, the lengths the left will go to discredit someone, but picking on Ann Romney’s hobby? Give me a break. These people need to get a real life.

It really does say something about Ann and Mitt that this is the best the media can come up with, and I say that as someone who isn’t a big fan of Mitt the politician. They are getting desperate.

The obvious message is that being rich is bad. I wonder if they include Soros, Gates, and Kerry on their bad list? I’d also like to nkow when the author of that article ever got a job from a poor person. Emvy stinks!

Exactly Jim, the moral of the story is that being rich is bad if you are a Republican. Not so much if you are a Democrat though.

It really shows that nothing if off limits if you are not a Democrat, can you imagine what would happen if something like this was said about Mrs. O?
