Latest New Hampshire presidential poll (07/18/12) shows Mitt Romney gaining on Barack Obama

July 18, 2012

I have been anxiously awaiting the latest New Hampshire presidential poll and today we finally have a little insight into the mindset of New Hampshirites because the first poll since Mitt Romney won the Republican nomination has been released and it shows us that Mitt Romney is narrowing the gap between he and the president.

According to this poll Barack Obama leads Mitt Romney by a margin of 49%-45% and because this falls within the margin of error it is considered a statistical dead heat. This poll shows Mitt Romney gaining on Barack Obama because the last WMUR poll was conducted in April and it had Barack Obama ahead of Mitt Romney by nine points, at 51%-42%.

While this poll shows Mitt Romney may be gaining momentum in New Hampshire I have to admit that I am more than a little disappointed in the fact that Barack Obama is leading anyone in the great state of New Hampshire after the historic gains Republicans made in the 2010 midterm elections in the state. The 2010 midterm elections in New Hampshire were truly a referendum on Barack Obama and a repudiation of his policies and I had hoped the momentum would continue right through the 2012 election in November, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

It is still early but this does raise a concern that has been on my mind for quite awhile; the Republicans were so successful in New Hampshire in 2010 that it would be almost unrealistic for us to believe they could make further gains in the state, and I believe it will be hard for the Republicans to even hold on to the same majorities they now hold in the legislature, although I feel there is a great chance for the Republicans to win the governor’s seat.

It is going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the race for the presidency and while Mitt Romney is gaining on Barack Obama in the state of New Hampshire I do think there is reason for the Republicans in this state to be concerned.

I think is a very good sign because for the most part Romney really hasn’t cranked it up against Obama. Wait and see after he starts vetting the President and starts calling him out on his questionable associations and dealings. Last election he got a free pass from McCain…Not this time. The Super Pacs are going to hammer Obama.

I hope you are right about the vetting this time around because if Obama is given the same treatment he was given by McCain he will win reelection.

The Super Pacs are one reason why Obama despises the Citizens United ruling from the Supreme Court. They help level the playing field against the unions and it hurts the Democrats.

Exactly Larry! The Democrats like to forget about their unfair advantage when it comes to “big unions” and they don’t like the facat that Citizens United did nothing more than level the playing field.

Truth is truly stranger than fiction. That this avowed Marxist holds sway over the electorate in any state after almost four years of offending the American citizen from lying his way to his 2008 victory to feigning a tentative stance the night OBL was sent to that Islamic brothel in the sky. Has he failed to do anything that should have turned off and scared the hell out of a majoriity of vorers in any state? Does ol’ floppy ears have to send shock troops into the streets before people wake up? New Hampshire, shame on you …

It is amazing that Obama can have a lead over any candidate at this point but I suppose the race is still early and despite what the media is saying I think Romney is gaining momentum. Perhaps he will peak at the right time.

You do know how the polls work, right? They can come up with whatever they want it to be. Other than California AND Illinois I would think that ALL the other (how many do we have now?) states would be in play for Romney. Instead of defending the accusations that the Obama campaign is throwing out, Romney needs to hit him hard and not let up about facts on his background and his politics. Put Obama on the defensive for once. I am really tired of the media running point for Obama, it is getting old. Some spanking of the media might be in order, as well.

The internals of this poll seemed to be pretty even, I was prepared to expose an unlevel sampling of voters but it doesn’t seem to be the case this time around.

This is good news, although I would like to see those numbers reversed. Wonder why they never poll in my state of Mississippi? Ha! Mississippians know what’s best for America despite having a 40+ percent Black population. Obama will carry the delta area here and make a good showing in the Jackson area, but elsewhere he will go down in flames. Romney’s number should continue upward in NH and when he picks his VP they could even spike!

That’s true Ron, ROmney should get a bump if he makes the right VP choice. We mustn’t take the polls to serious at this point because anything could happen to change the dynamics of this race between now and November.

I like you-all are dumbfounded why Obamanation leads anywhere? Oops I just answered myself ‘dumb’ is the operative word!

Romney-GOP-Super pacs must hammer Obamanation relentlessly from now till November…Was good to see Romney pissed over Obama’s smite on entrepreneurship 🙂

Hopefully Romney and the Republicans will take the gloves off. TO this point it has only been Sununu who has been willing to hit Obama hard and I think the rest of them could learn something from him.

One thing to keep in mind is that Romney is limited in what he can spend before the convention and he officially becomes the nominee. I had forgotten about that until I was reminded by another blogger. Romney is raising a lot of money that can not be spent until the convention is over. After that, all bets are off and I suspect will see a different kind of campaign.

Keeping that in context, every poll I see is a positive sign. Romney is being vastly outspent by Obama right now, yet he is still hanging very close to the President. He has a lot of upward mobility and he will have the money to exploit that mobility, when the time comes.

That is very interesting Larry and I did not know about this, but it makes sense. Hopefully this means we will see Romney really take it to Obama after the convention.

Here is the latest from Bill Whittle. Does anyone else think that maybe Romney might benefit from someone like him and his staff/writers being on his team? It is not that long of a video and it is very on point. I SO like this man!!!!

personally, I think obama’s attacks are getting old for everybody, it’s constantly in our face how rotten Romney is. BUT I think the attack on the Israel bus is bad news for obama. The terrorist who blew up the bus is reported to have a fake michigan ID and the article shows this as an American attack on Israel, the article is in wnd.com but not on any other media outlet.

I will have to read it, as well. That would not be good, but as easy as it is to get an ID here, what do we expect? Makes you wonder what information you have to give now to get that ID. Could this “person” be someone other than a Christian? Just wondering. With how Obama treats our “friends” in Israel, I would imagine it could be believed, but hopefully Israel knows the American people do not hold the same views as this president.

MT, once again we have a scanty report, on someone watched on a camera who is 36 in bermuda shorts,,,,hmmm. Well, it is a Michigan ID, so was it obtained under false pretense or possibly one doctored up and bought elsewhere? We do not know. And they know this is the person that had the bomb? How do they know this? They also don’t know his nationality…so once again, reporting without really the slightest bit of solid facts and this will start setting people off that want revenge. Crazy isn’t it?

It certainly is getting old and I think it is going to backfire on him. This attack on Israel could be a problem as well; he just ordered the closing of several border patrol stations and now we learn a terrorist must have snuck over the border at some point to get a fake ID. How many more are here?

It is crazy but it makes me think that I agree with Israel the bombing came from iran trying to make this person “look American” and Israel is already on top of this. I don’t envy their job! Great questions, your Way ahead of me!

Israel is way ahead of us, as well! Their system seems to work, surely Obama would want to pattern what we do after a tried and true system? Or maybe he would be afraid it WOULD work, as in the profiling they do. Yet, we have TSA agents groping us and taking away our freedoms under the pretense of keeping us safe. Things do not make any sense here in the USA, MT!! This makes me think of the ID that came floating down from the WTC that just happened to be from one of the terrorist/hijackers, what was the chance of that happening? I ask you! Cover ups and faked emergencies come to mind. I am NOT a conspiracy theorist, but the longer this craziness goes on the more I question anything that starts taking away our freedoms as possibly being “untrue”.

I know u guys hate barack obama for lots of reasons his race his wife and just having black in white house upsets all of you! His policies are not the reason for so much hate and venom! I am white so I know the codes and overtures made toward this man. How could claim to be true americans but yet won’t comprmise on health care job bill nothing!! It is sick! And romney is no where near a conservative look at his record. No core and u know it but in ur zeal to hurt our president u guys don’t care. If barack losses which I doubt u will regret the day u backed mitt romney. Well u are turning off a lot of fair minded white voters not the fringe. U are making us vote demrcrat! Sad! You are entitled to your opinion but please don’t insult my intelligence by claiming that you are a conservative, there is no need to hide your political leanings here. This post was only about the poll numbers in my state and have nothing to do with race, I was reporting the news I read in the paper. The fact that you decided to bring race into the picture shows me that you are not who you claimed to be and because of this your opinion means nothing to me.
