No power
Hurricane Sandy knocked our power out here at around 3:00 yesterday afternoon. I was able to fire up the generator last evening and was surprised to see I still had cable and internet access.
That changed somewhere around 9:00 last night and it doesn’t appear as if I will have power or internet access for a few days.
I really do not want to be off line during this last critical week heading into such an important election and will do my best to mobile blog whatever happens to come up until we have power back. I’ll be able to access wifi at work a couple of days so hopefully that will help, although half an hour isn’t much time to write a decent post.
I probably won’t be commenting here too much until power comes back, but I will try to keep up, and I probably won’t be commenting too much throughout the blogophere but I will be keeping up with my favorite blogs as best I can.

I’d share my wireless with you Steve but I don’t think I’m transmitting quite that far from Arizona…

Thanks for the offer. 🙂 I’m back! The outage didn’t last nearly as long as I was expecting.

You are in my thoughts and prayers Steve. Be safe. Taking care of yourself and the rest of the family is the top priority right now. Blogging is secondary.

You just take care of your family. If you can post an “open post” each day at work, I am sure all of us will keep the most important news posted here for you.

Thanks Lou, I knew I could count on you guys to keep things going while I was gone, but it turns out that the outage didn’t last as long as I feared. It is good to be back!

I think everyone understands your going through a nightmare right now and your family is top priority. The pictures are coming in on the news, this was a bad storm. Our household is in hurricane country, we know all to well what your dealing with. These storms can cause power loss for weeks at a time, hopefully this will not be the case. My prayers are with you and yours.

Thank you so much for the prayers and for the kind words. We didn’t get it as bad here as others did but I still though I would be ‘dark’ for quite some time. luckily that was not the case.

Steve, stay safe.
And by the way, with your voice and your philosophy, you still have plenty of power.

Thank you so much for the kind words, it really means allot to me! Luckily I am back, I really was upset at the thought I would be off line in the last week heading into the election after I had put so much time and effort into the cause.

I read the effects of this hurricane will reach Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. One massive storm for sure. This is why we do preparation ahead of time. If you live in an area prone to outages, you make sure you have a generator and GAS. You make sure you have a store of food and candles put away as well as communication. One of the main reasons we did the HAM radio licenses about 14 years ago, has come in handy a few times when all the phone lines were down with an ice storm or two. Hope all is well for anyone blogging on here that is in the way of this event.

It was a truly massive storm and luckily for us we didn’t get the worst of it. We were ready for it but the thought of missing out of the last week of the campaign was eating away at me as I sat there hoping for the power to come back on.

Here in the northern part of NH we still have power–so far. I have a kid in Bedford and another in Wells Maine and they both lost power and are on generators. Best of luck to you. Stay safe.

Sitting in SE PA with electricity intact so far. Lost power for about two hours last night. I have learned my lesson and will be buying a whole house generator before year’s end Best of luck and stay safe, Steve–your blogs are a must read for me so the sooner you are back online, the better, I say

I hope you still have power, thank you so much for the kind words and for the well wishes. We lost power a few years ago for eleven days after an ice storm and that is when we decided it was time to get a generator. We have used it about three times now when we have had outages of a few days and it really has been a blessing.

Good luck with your power Steve. When Katrina came through my part of the country power was off for a week although I’m a hundred miles from the coast. Hope you’re up and running soon.

Thank you everyone for the prayers, kind words, and thoughts. It turned out to be not as bad as I had feared; the last few times we lost power it was for multiple days so I assumed the worst and was surprised by how quickly we got our power back.
I guess at this point I should thank Barack Obama for being on top of this storm and for providing the necessary leadership to get me through the day and for personally restoring my power. We couldn’t have done it without him. Yeah, right……..
