John McCain and Lindsey Graham slam Rand Paul’s filibuster after having dinner with Barack Obama

March 7, 2013

Shortly before noon yesterday Rand Paul took to the floor of the Senate and began a thirteen hour filibuster, holding up Barack Obama’s nominee to be the Director of the CIA, seeking the answer to what should have been an easy question.

For quite some time Rand Paul has been asking Eric Holder if he and Barack Obama thought it was constitutional and legal for the president of the United States to order a drone strike on an American citizen on American soil, but he had been unable to get a straight answer from the Attorney General so yesterday he seized the opportunity to bring this issue to light and put pressure on the Obama regime to answer it once and for all.

Rand Paul did have help in the form of Ted Cruz,  Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, John Cornyn, John Barrasso, Jerry Moran, Saxby Chambliss, Pat Toomey, Ron Johnson, Tim Scott, Jeff Flake, John Thune, and Mitch McConnell. At one point in time RNC Chairman Reince Priebus sent out a plea asking other Republican Senators to come to the floor and provide more help for Rand Paul’s fight for the assurance that the president understood the fact that American citizens are guaranteed due process in the Constitution.

But nobody else showed up because they had what they felt was a more important issue to deal with than the Constitution–they were having dinner with Barack Obama.

This is a list of the Senators who felt a free dinner was more important than the constitution:  John McCain, Tom Coburn, Lindsey Graham, Kelly Ayotte, Pat Toomey, Saxby Chambliss, Bob Corker, Ron Johnson, John Hoeven, Richard Burr, Mike Johanns, and Dan Coats.

Sadly, my Senator is on that list and rest assured that I have already sent her an email voicing my displeasure. But two Republican leaders, John McCain and Lindsey Graham did more than just snub Rand Paul; after the dinner these two Republicans slammed him for trying to stand up for the Constitution.

These two ruling class elitists have been in Washington for a long time and they do not like younger members of the Senate who simply will not go along to get along and they have decided it is time for them to put Rand Paul in his place by publicly humiliating him.

And this is coming from the party that tells us they are for smaller, limited government and the Constitution? The establishment is the real problem here and these are the people who must be defeated because they care more about holding on to political power than they care about anything else. They would rather chum around with the man they supposedly oppose than stand with the man who is defending due process.

What John McCain and Lindsey Graham are ignoring in all of this is the fact that Rand Paul won; after days of filibustering himself Eric Holder sent Rand Paul a letter today which stated that it would be unconstitutional and illegal to conduct a drone strike on an American on American soil and that is all Rand Paul wanted to hear in the first place.

It is quite telling that it took a filibuster of an Obama nominee to get this information–he apparently would not have admitted this without Rand Paul’s filibuster–and it is also quite telling to see the names of the Republicans who didn’t think this was a battle worth fighting.

Another jerk who slipped under the radar is Rep Peter King-R of New York. He lambasted Marco Rubio for voting against the hurricane Sandy relief bill. Rather than explaining the no vote was because of the incredible amount of pork loaded into the bill King instead said that no contributors in New York should donate to or support Marco Rubio. King, Janet Napolitano’s Homeland Security bitch was probably too busy sniffing her panties to attend Obama’s ” neutralize the republicans ” dinner last night.

I missed that somehow, it seems when push comes to shove none of them are really serious about cutting spending–especially when it benefits them.

McCain and Graham have been in Washington far too long. There remarks following Rand’s filibuster were sickening to me. Sometime they are on the right side of issues, but on this both missed the point Rand was making. Rand did manage to accomplish his goal by getting the White House via Holder to make their position on domestic drone strikes clear. I’ve not always been a Rand Paul supporter and oppose many of his positions on foreign policy, but on this one he stood tall and made me proud to be an American—Mr. Rand did go to Washington.

Thy are “institutionalized” and they only care about staying in power. They totally misside the point that Rand Paul won.

King and his evolving waffling is becoming typical behavior for the entrenched RINOS. Their ” eat their own” attitude is about all they can be relied on for. What became if principled behavior?

They don’t like this challenge to their power but if the Republican party is to survive Rand Paul and the others have to win this civil war.

To be fair to the Senators who went to the dinner with President Obama, I believe it was planned in advance of Senator Paul taking to the floor with his filibuster.

As for McCain and Graham, they should be silent. Rand Paul and some of the other Senators are doing what they are unwilling to do.

I know your senator was one of the ones who dined with Obama, and while Coburn has been solid on many issues–as my senator has been–this is inexcusable to me. The filibuster started well before the dinner and they had time to change their plans and they didn’t.
As for McCain and Graham, I agree with you; they should have kept their mouths shut.

And, Karl Rove wants to make sure the Tea Parties have no more influence on who candidates will be. My bet is he will back Jeb Bush. in 2016.

Yep, Karl Rove is for the establishment and he is part of the problem. If Jeb Bush is the nominee we have already lost.

I guess its okay if McCain and Graham get the spotlight, but not when someone else does. Especially if that someone else gets the desired results. To McCain & Graham I would ask, where’s the truth on Benghazi? We’re still waiting!

Exactly, for all of Benghazi we know no more than we did before. Now Paul stole the spot light from him and he doesn’t like it.

Sen John McCain on Fox with Shepard Smith opened his mouth and furnished further proof that his presence in DC is a sad commentary on the electorate of Arizona; Arizona, the breeding ground of Janet Napolitano also.
