Illinois Democrat says an “assault weapons” ban is just the beginning, could handguns be next?

March 11, 2013

When confronted by a reporter whom she thought was sympathetic to extreme gun control laws Illinois Democrat Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky admitted that an assault weapon ban was “just the beginning.”

She admitted that Sandy Hook provided the gun grabbers with an opportunity and they intend to take advantage of that opportunity. (Never let a good crisis go to waste.)

When questioned on the possibility of banning handguns she didn’t rule it out. Here is the exchange:

We want everything on the table,” Schakowsky told Mattera. “This is a moment of opportunity. There’s no question about it

Schakowsky: We’re on a roll now, and I think we’ve got to take the–you know, we’re gonna push as hard as we can and as far as we can.

Mattera: So the assault weapons ban is just the beginning?

Schakowsky: Oh absolutely. I mean, I’m against handguns. We have, in Illinois, the Council Against Handgun… something [Violence]. Yeah, I’m a member of that. So, absolutely.

Mattera: We’ll never get a handgun ban with the Second Amendment as stated.

Schakowsky: I don’t know. I don’t know that we can’t. And there may be an allowance, once again, for communities–I have communities in my district that prohibited handguns within their borders. The rights of municipalities and states to view that as a sensible way to keep people safe–I don’t think it’s precluded.

Every once in awhile the ruling class elites will slip up and tell us the truth, there is a saying that goes something like this: a gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth. And that is what we have just witnessed.

If we allow Dianne Feinstein’s legislation to become law it will only be the beginning for they have bigger plans and we cannot let them get away with this. In reality Dianne Feinstein’s legislation already takes us down the path of an outright handgun ban by banning magazines over ten rounds–standard issue on many handguns–and once this is enacted there is no doubt they will then attempt to go after the rest of the handguns.

It had been reported that Barack Obama was putting pressure on the states to enact gun control legislation that he knew he couldn’t pass at the federal level hoping to gain support for his usurpation of the second amendment at the federal level and I think this Congresswoman just showed us this report is true.

Well, the good news about all of this is that the base will stay revved up. It may have been a gift. Painful indeed. I just can’t see congress passing anything. The states are another matter.

I think that you are right about this and I think that Obama underestimate how much opposition there would be to this so now he is focused at passing legislation at the state level, and he could be successful there.

The current effort at at outlawing assault rifles is nothing but a foot-in-door ploy that will lead to many more restrictions on gun ownership in this country. I seen tactics like this almost all my life. I remember the early attacks on smokers and now the ungodly taxes imposed on cigarettes and the flat outlawing of smoking in almost all public building and many private ones such as cafes, bars, etc. I’m a non-smoker and have always been, but I know when the rights of others are be trampled all in the name of public safety and welfare. More freedoms have been lost in the name of public safety that anyother thing I can think of at the moment. The Feinstein bill if passed will just be the first of many to follow stripping away constitutional rights. Freedom of choice and I’m not referring to the right to kill the unborn, is an American right, but one that that controlling liberals just cannot tolerate—it goes against their “nanny state” grain.

Well said Ron and you are right we have seen this before, once they get their foot in the door it will leave the door open for more restrictions and we need to stop this before it is too late.

Along with the countless taxes and other crap hidden within Obamacare’s almost three thousand pages they could have include a total firearms ban since nobody read it.

A total ban is the goal. Just like building a house, you have to add a brick at a time and anything that restricts firearms is adding those bricks.

We have been warning for a long time that this is what they were really after. When we have sounded the warning, we have been told the “slippery slope” argument is a poor argument to use. Well, guess what? We were right all along. They are after a complete and total ban, however they can manage to get it.

Exactly Larry, people disregard the slippery slope argument but there is no doubt in my mind this is just the beginning.

And remember she and her husband were instrumental in writing the Obamacare bill so she knows all about back door legislation

Stalin banned guns for his citizens. We know how that worked out. Do they really want to create a constitutional crisis? It seems that way, doesn’t it?

They’re proponents of ‘lawlessness’ and an “assault” on intelligence. With their many words, suck the life out of the air. Hopefully more in positions of power will stand, like Rand, and ‘nip ‘um in the bud.’ Time to pull the infesting weeds out of the garden!
