Lindsey Graham flip-flops, now supports defunding Obamacare

  On Friday, after the vote to defund Obamacare, Lindsey Graham tweeted his support for the measure. This was strange considering the fact that he has opposed defunding Obamacare in the past:

Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.) appeared to do an about-face Friday afternoon, tweeting his support for the House’s recently passed continuing resolution that defunds ObamaCare

As recently as Tuesday, Graham had derided the effort, telling The Huffington Post that defunding ObamaCare would be ineffective because “80 percent” of the law would remain untouched, but “that seems to not resonate with anybody.” 

He was also dismissive of the resolution’s prospects for success, telling Talking Points Memo that he “[didn’t] see [Obama] agreeing to defund his signature issue.”

Back in July, Graham had referred to defunding ObamaCare as “a bridge too far” for him.

  So recently he was opposed to the measure because he thought it would be ineffective and had no chance to become law, and back in July he claimed it was “a bridge too far” so what changed?

   According to Lindsey Graham nothing has changed:

A spokesman for Graham said that the senator had always supported defunding ObamaCare, but simply rejected a strategy that involved shutting down the government

  He has suddenly gone from the position of defunding Obamacare as being  “a bridge too far” to always having been in support of defunding Obamacare and we are supposed to believe that nothing changed?

  Here is the real reason why he flip-flopped on defunding Obamacare: Lindsey Graham is facing a primary challenge from several people and shortly after the House voted to defund Obmacare one of his opponents, Nancy Mace, released a statement attacking Lindsey Graham for his criticism of the defunding strategy. Two hours after Nancy Mace’s press release Lindsey Graham tweeted his support for the measure.

  Coincidence? I think not! Lindsey Graham realizes his reelection bid might be in jeopardy because the conservatives in his state are applying pressure to him and they are supporting his opponents so he made this move to the right in order to appease them. This was nothing more than a political calculation based on doing what is best for him and he really has no concern greater than keeping his current position. This move epitomizes precisely what is wrong in Washington and I hope the voters do not fall for this sleight of hand.
