Lindsey Graham flip-flops, now supports defunding Obamacare

September 21, 2013

On Friday, after the vote to defund Obamacare, Lindsey Graham tweeted his support for the measure. This was strange considering the fact that he has opposed defunding Obamacare in the past:

Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.) appeared to do an about-face Friday afternoon, tweeting his support for the House’s recently passed continuing resolution that defunds ObamaCare

As recently as Tuesday, Graham had derided the effort, telling The Huffington Post that defunding ObamaCare would be ineffective because “80 percent” of the law would remain untouched, but “that seems to not resonate with anybody.”

He was also dismissive of the resolution’s prospects for success, telling Talking Points Memo that he “[didn’t] see [Obama] agreeing to defund his signature issue.”

Back in July, Graham had referred to defunding ObamaCare as “a bridge too far” for him.

So recently he was opposed to the measure because he thought it would be ineffective and had no chance to become law, and back in July he claimed it was “a bridge too far” so what changed?

According to Lindsey Graham nothing has changed:

A spokesman for Graham said that the senator had always supported defunding ObamaCare, but simply rejected a strategy that involved shutting down the government

He has suddenly gone from the position of defunding Obamacare as being  “a bridge too far” to always having been in support of defunding Obamacare and we are supposed to believe that nothing changed?

Here is the real reason why he flip-flopped on defunding Obamacare: Lindsey Graham is facing a primary challenge from several people and shortly after the House voted to defund Obmacare one of his opponents, Nancy Mace, released a statement attacking Lindsey Graham for his criticism of the defunding strategy. Two hours after Nancy Mace’s press release Lindsey Graham tweeted his support for the measure.

Coincidence? I think not! Lindsey Graham realizes his reelection bid might be in jeopardy because the conservatives in his state are applying pressure to him and they are supporting his opponents so he made this move to the right in order to appease them. This was nothing more than a political calculation based on doing what is best for him and he really has no concern greater than keeping his current position. This move epitomizes precisely what is wrong in Washington and I hope the voters do not fall for this sleight of hand.

For me he has always evoked the spirit of Jimmy Carter each time he opens his mouth but no more. The peanut farmer with lust in his heart has more honor and integrity than Linseed Graham.

You are right, there is no integrity here. This is only politically motivated and if didn’t have a primary opponent he wouldn’t have flip flopped on this issue. This is why it is important to primary them all.

Boehner flip-flopped because he might be facing a Tea Party candidate in the primary run offs. The same might be true with Graham, or maybe he was threatened with recall.
Reminds me of the faith healers, when somebody throws away the crutches and walks. They’re healed!!

Graham is being primaried and there are a few opponents but I am not sure if there is a Tea Party candidate but I would guess there must be We need to get all of them primary opponents to let them know we are not going to take it anymore.

Does he seriously expect the voters in his state to take this reversal to be for real? Come on, he wasn’t even subtle about it.

He must be in real trouble in his state and if so they are going to see through this. he probably feels he can get away with it because he has been getting away with it for so long.

I would dearly love to see Lindsey Grahamnesty primaried! Now if someone could just do something about Boehner.

Graham is being primaried, I am not sure abut Boehner. I think Boehner was primaried the last time around but this time he might be more vulnerable.

A cheap suit has more class. Thank goodness our founders had the good sense to limit the House to 2 year terms. Way to go. Nice to show your colors. McCain must be going to have a stroke over his best bud selling out.

Yeah, McCain cannot be too happy. Hopefully the pressure of reelection will make him flip-flop on amnesty as well, of course he will just flip back if he gets reelected.

I think it is a last minute conversion because he knows he’s being targeted and may very well lose.

That is all this is about and if he wins reelection he will flip right back again.

Seriously, I have long thought that Graham looks like an old tranny, a real *queen* type… And yeah, I have seen them before, you work a vice detail in New Orleans and you see it ALL… 😦
