Obamacare: The IRS cannot account for $67 million taken from healthcare slush fund
According to this article when Obamacare was passed into law there was a provision in the bill which gave the IRS $1 billion to implement Obamacare.
The “Health Insurance Reform Implementation Fund” (HIRIF) was tucked into Obamacare in order to give the IRS money to enforce the tax provisions of the healthcare law. The fund, totaling some $1 billion of taxpayer money, was used to roll out enforcement mechanisms for the approximately 50 tax provisions of Obamacare.
However a newly released report finds that the IRS did not account for $67 million spent from this fund:
According to the report: “Specifically, the IRS did not account for or attempt to quantify approximately $67 million [from the slush fund] of indirect ACA costs incurred for Fiscal Years 2010 through 2012.”
There are those who would defend the IRS by stating that $67 million out of $1 billion really isn’t all that to be worried about because it is such a small percentage (this is what Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick might call leakage, as he did when he learned about the welfare fraud in his state) but I beg to differ because, as the report says, the IRS did not even try to account for that money.
The irony that the agency which is tasked with ensuring the American people can account for all their taxable income and expenditures when it comes to money owed to the government did not bother to account for their own expenditures of taxpayer dollars is simply too rich to ignore.
Was this a simple accounting mistake or this this genuine fraud? Judging by all the recent scandals the IRS is mired in I find it hard to believe this was a mistake. Obamacare is not even fully implemented and already we are seeing fraud and abuse from the agency which is tasked with enforcing the healthcare mandates.

In IRS parlance, their unaccouting for $67 mil is a mere bag of shells while for the rest of us it’s do as we say not as we do.

None of it is any good, but I can see an immunity from prosecution deal being cut, and then, absolutely nothing will be done by the US Attorney General regarding indictments or follow up investigation(s).
The big mistake was when she first opened her mouth invoking the Fifth, right there, her pension, benefits, and indemnification should have been severed. It would have left her in a position of retaining legal counsel to fight for getting back her stripped chattels and would have made her eager to sing.
The federal government is grossly incompetent because from what I see, they run around like amateurs or, the errors are orchestrated. I believe that she is shielding someone. Now, if immunity is granted, if she flips and talks, whoever might be implicated will then have a legal leg to stand on, saying the testimony and proceedings are tainted. Then everything will get tossed out, and we are left holding a plucked rubber chicken and nothing more.

She is now seeking immunity for her testimony in front of the Congress, but you are right; even if she does spill the beans on anyone above her nothing will be done. I think you are right about what the Congress should have done when she pleaded the fifth, that was the time to act and now it may be too late to hold anyone accountable.

I’m sure the IRS will set up an “independent commission” to review proceedures and find that some janitor in Cleveland screwed up. The janitor will have to retire on a measly $150, 000 per year plus full health coverage. Lifes a bitch!

There is no sense of accountability. Here is an example:

All of these agencies have inspector generals. I guess none took a course in forensic accounting or auditing. The amount of greed and entitlement (ie, Lois Learner)

Wow, talk about a waste of taxpayer money! These people honestly feel as if this is their money to be spent as they wish, there is no accountability whatsoever and this is another example.

Wow, what confidence this instills in me. Doesn’t it just make you dizzy at the thought of letting the IRS have even more of your information than they already have?
