Senate Democrat will introduce a bill to delay the Obamacare individual mandate

October 23, 2013

It is now being reported in this story that Senate Democrat Joe Manchin is preparing draft legislation which will postpone the individual mandate and it just so happens that every single Democratic Senator who is up for reelection next year support a delay in the implementation of the mandate. Funny how that works, isn’t it?

This is very interesting because before the government was shut down by Harry Reid the Republicans offered the Senate a bill which would fund the entire government, including Obamacare, with the only sting attached being a delay in the individual mandate, yet Harry Reid refused to bring the proposal to the Senate floor for a vote. Where were these Senators back then and why were they not demanding a vote on this proposal?

The truth is, in my opinion, that the Democrats wanted the government to be shut down because they felt they could use it against the Republicans in 2014 and they also did not want the Republicans to gain a victory over Obamacare, no matter how small.

But now that the mandate has been rolled out and Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and the Tea Party have been vindicated they see this as a potential liability in the 2014 election so they are changing their tune in an attempt to look like the heroes who saved the American people from the disaster they inflicted upon the American people in the first place.

If Reid allows this to come to fruition we radical racists on the right will hardly be able to contain ourselves waiting for the left’s spin. It may go something like this: had the republicans not shut down the government Reid would have been able to allow a vote on a similar bill a lot sooner and thereby avoided the OC website debacle. Those darn wascally wepublicans.

I have not heard where this leaves the Insurance companies. Letters have gone out by a number of companies that the coverage for many has ended. Looks like the whole thing must be delayed somehow. If the enrollment is just extended, then the insurance companies will get only very sick people. I have researched this to no end, and can find nothing, There was a comment on Fox that a number of Co-ops were on the verge of bankruptcy to the tune of costing billions. We need to be careful exactly the proposal and the impact. IMO.

Great point. I had thought about that also. This could turn into another gov’t sponsored cluster f__k.

That is a great question and maybe we are already in too far just to have these band aids put over the problem.

Somehow I don’t think MSNBC will be saying this guy is acting contrary to the will of the American people and a duly elected president and Congress.

If anything they will finally cite a poll showing how unpopular Obamacare is and claim the Dems are doing what the people want.

This now this becomes a Dem sound bite. Joe Manchin saves the little guy. Dem 2 Rep 0 If the Rep hadn’t forced the sequester the web site would have been up and running will be the new lament. This is another scandal that is going nowhere. Going after Sebelius will only backfire and waste time and effort. Stay focused on how the failed website is wasting money and hurting individuals and their need for healthcare.

I do not have any sympathy for the insurance companies. They bought into this scam with both eyes wide open. Now the politicians get to shake them down again. And any company that does not agree to the dictators demands will have the Federal Bureaucracy jackals unleashed on them. If you don’t understand go ask the guys at JP Morgan. Thugocracy at its finest !

There is no doubt the Dems will blame the Republicans for all of this by claiming the sequester and the shutdown caused these problems, I just wonder if anyone is listening to them at this point.

I do not understand why the insurance companies went along with this. Allowing the government to dictate what services they must offer and what prices they are permitted to charge. What the heck were they thinking??? Did their greed for all these new customers blind them to the disastrous outcomes?

It makes you wonder if they were threatened. We are hearing more reporters say they are harassed by the regime when they write articles critical of the president so I would not put this passed Obama.

Personally, I think this is going to be hard on the Democrats. They have a high bar to meet to explain to the American people how they refused to even vote on the Republican bill that funded the government and delayed the mandate, only to come back and produce their own delay. That is so obviously political gamesmanship, I don’t see how that could do anything but hurt them in the 2014 elections.

It very well could hurt them. Notice how quickly the coverage went from blaming the Republicans for the shutdown to the horrors of Obamacare? That is why they are trying to link the shutdown to the problems but how can that work when the shutdown was because the Republicans tried to prevent this

The Rep and Tea Parties are asleep. Where is the spokesperson with the megaphone? Somebody needs to be saying OC is broken and a delay in implementation will not fix it. A delay will only create more confussion and pain for individuals. Where is the press conference with the victims of OC? Play the same game as the dictator. Put the screws to him and his team, but you need real people who are suffering to hammer home your points!

This is a chance for the Tea Party and the Republicans to make themselves heard and yet they are silent. They should be out there several times a day screaming as loudly as they can about this and yet we don’t hear a thing. Perhaps they feel it is best to step back and let the Democrats implode, but if I were them I would be there pouring a little gas on the flames.

will Reid bring it to the floor? He may lose six dems if he doesn’t. Well, he might lose them anyway once this nightmare is in full force.

Yeah, he may have to bring it to the floor to save the Dem majority, but if this keeps going this badly you may be right and the Dems will lose either way. If he makes this calculation there is no way he will admit the mistake and allow a vote on this.

No one has mentioned a presidential veto yet. Didn’t obummer PROMISE to veto any bill that dared touch his precious baby? I hope the dems force Reid to put it up for a vote. I hope 100% of Republicans vote FOR it. I hope obummer——nope, I don’t care whether he vetoes it or signs it. Either way he looks like the f###ing self-serving fascist moron that he is! We NEED the Republicans to keep the House AND capture the Senate in 2014! THEN he can fight IMPEACHMENT for the rest of his term! He certainly would NOT be able to get anything else accomplished to further destroy the country.

That is a great point that I hadn’t thought about! Perhaps these Democrats know that Obama will veto it and this will provide them with cover to tell their constituents they tried to delay the mandate. If so this would be a win-win for Obama, these Democrats get reelected for a faux attempt at delaying the mandate and the mandate remains in place.
