Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy says the NSA spying scandal could lead to government control of the people if left unchecked

January 20, 2014

Clearly misunderstanding the Constitutional issues millions of Americans have with the NSA spying scandal Barack Obama addressed the American people last Friday and told us the program will go on whether we like it or not, but in order to make us feel better about this the Federal government will no longer store the information, a private corporation store the data instead. The issue at hand is not where the information is stored but rather whether or not the information should be gathered in the first place, that is what Barack Obama does not seem to understand.

This is about an overreaching Federal government which feels unencumbered by the Constitution or for the privacy rights of its citizens, this is something that Barack Obama might not understand (or care about)  but Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy does understand–to a point.

Here is what he recently had to say about the NSA spying program:

“The concern everybody has is allowing our government to have such a reach into your private life, my private life, and everybody else’s, that we are, we have the government controlling us instead of us controlling the government.”

“I just think that there should be oversight,” Leahy said. “Think back in the history of this county, in J. Edgar Hoover’s day and all — if he had had the power when he was spying on protesters and those against the Vietnam War and Martin Luther King — if he had had the power that’s in here, think what might have happened. We Americans believe in our safety. We also believe in our ability to be private.”

Barack Obama told us that we should not be worried about the program because the NSA and the Federal government is not abusing the information it is gathering but the information gathering is an abuse in and of itself so how are we to trust the government not to abuse the information it is gathering in an abuse of power in the first place?

If the government is collecting information on virtually every single American it goes without saying that the government is collecting information on its political opponents and we are supposed to believe they will not use it? The temptation is just too great, especially when the checks and balances have been removed and the decisions on search warrants are left up to a secret court.

For once Patrick Leahy is on the right side of an issue and if he is worried about the NSA we all should be…..

League surprises me. With the incremental anethisizing of “the people ” with all 50 states soon legalizing pot and who knows what else we won’t even know we ‘re being spied upon. He ‘s going to screw this up if he starts coming to his senses and preaching about his new found constitutional religion.

It does make you wonder if there is an ulterior motive here. These people simply cannot be trusted and he is part of the establishment after all.

I just have to say first that I love all the reblogging that is going on!

For an Old School Democrat to start sending up a red flag should scare the hell out of all of us. I never thought I would see it because they hold the ranks pretty strongly as a party. We need to look at what else is going on if Leahy is going against what Obama is doing. I think we are at the point that we have to question everything from now on that comes out of the White House and not leave anything up to chance. Things are moving very fast now and it is passing a lot of people by. When one of “your own” turns on you then you must be doing something VERY wrong.

I love the reblogging also. So many Patriots helping to spread the word around, we are getting the stories out there whether the MSM and the Democrats like it or not. Is it any wonder they want to clamp down on the internet?
I have to wonder what is going on behind the scenes as well, are these people running from Obama for their own political gain or is there something else going on that we don’t know about yet? I simply do not trust these people.

At this point, Steve, I do not trust any of them in office. I trust my gut instinct more. I am not sure if it is them protecting their asses or some form of morals and ethics coming out, but whatever it is, we have to pay close attention. Usually where there is one doing it, there will be others. What could be making Leahy run scared enough to bring this out into the public? Usually all that discussion is behind closed doors with the administration and the public and media (for what they are worth) are not allowed in. They are fed just the bits and pieces they want to be “leaked” out to us. No, trust is not a word I will ever again use lightly. We (most) have been lax in keeping up with what they have been doing to us, under the table. I think those days are coming to an end, IF we have time left to change what has been created.
