Major Obama donor nominated as ambassador to Argentina

February 8, 2014

Barack Obama has nominated Noah Mamet as ambassador to Argentina even though he has never even once visited the country.

“Senator,” responded Mamet, “I haven’t had the opportunity yet to be there. I travel pretty extensively around the world. But I haven’t yet had a chance.”

So if he has never traveled to Argentina, and thusly does not have a firsthand account of the culture of that country, what makes him qualified to be the ambassador to that nation?

Perhaps this story could shed some light on why Barack Obama thinks he is qualified for that post:

Mamet, who is from Los Angeles and is the owner of Noah Mamet and Associates, raised nearly $1.4 million for Obama’s campaign during 2011 and 2012, according to a database compiled by The New York Times. And since 2007, Mamet has helped raise over $1.7 million in total for Obama.

This is obviously payback for a friend who helped Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, pure and simple. Let’s face it, this is nothing new: politicians on both sides of the aisle seem to use ambassadorships to reward loyal devotees for their efforts, but did not Barack Obama promise to change this culture in Washington?

Why yes he did! Here is what he said about that practice back in 2007, when he was running for president the first time:

Obama was once critical of political appointments for fundraisers. “They write the checks and you get stuck with the bills, they get the access while you get to write a letter, they think they own this government,” candidate Obama said in 2007.

So what has changed since Barack Obama was a candidate other than the fact that he now thinks he is the one who “owns this government” while all we can do is “write a letter?”

Nothing, other than the fact that he is now the one in charge of political appointments. Barack Obama thinks he is better than those that came before him and we should accept this because he is not like the others when in fact he is no different than the others. Barack Obama ran on the promise of changing the culture in Washington and the culture has instead changed him. Or has it? Perhaps this was who he was all along, I think that is much closer to the truth.

  Just another broken promise…..

One rich socialist going to make nice with another rich socialist. Noah and Christina should get along just fine, although she is not to fond of imperialist yankees.
