New emails show Lois Lerner ignored complaints about labor union tax discrepancies

September 2, 2014

lois lerner  Newly released emails seem to show that in addition to allegedly  targeting conservative groups for extra scrutiny (and considering targeting Charles Grassley after accidentally reading a communication address to him) it now appears as if Lois Lerner was at the same time ignoring and brushing off complains filed against some labor unions if this story is true.

He is more about another potentially explosive scandal within the IRS:

The official at the center of the Internal Revenue Service tea party scandal once dismissed complaints that labor unions were not reporting millions of dollars in political activities on their tax forms, according to an email obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

In 2007, Lerner responded directly to a complaint that some major labor unions reported completely different amounts of political expenditures when filing with the IRS and the Department of Labor.

At the time of the email, Lerner was the Director of Exempt Organizations at the IRS.

Lerner wrote, “We looked at the information you provided regarding organizations that report substantial amounts of political activity and lobbying expenditures on the DOL Form LM-2, but report little to no political expenditures on the Form 990 filed with the IRS.”

“We believe this difference in reporting does not necessarily indicate that the organization has incorrectly reported to either the DOL or the IRS,” Lerner concluded.

It sure seems as if she quickly brushed aside these complaints without really giving it the scrutiny it would have received if this was a major donor to the Republican party instead of the Democratic party, so surely this must have been a small discrepancy, right?

  Not really:

In 2006, the year leading up to Lerner’s email, the national headquarters for the AFL-CIO reported no direct or indirect political expenditures with the IRS on their 990 form, leaving the line 81a blank. That same year, the AFL-CIO reported $29,585,661 in political activities with the Department of Labor.

Hey, what’s $29 millions between friends? But wait, there’s more:

Also in 2006 the Teamsters Union reported no political expenditures with the IRS while at the same time reporting $7,081,965 with the Labor Department.

Again in 2006, Unite-Here reported no political activity with the IRS and $1,451,002 with the Labor Department.

In 2005, the National Education Association also reported no political expenditures with the IRS while at the same time reporting $24,985,250 with the Labor Department.

And if that were not enough she went so far as to offer excuses for the discrepancies:

But she did offer some possible reasons for the discrepancies. “The Form LM-2 does not separate this reporting from the reporting of lobbying expenditures,” she wrote. “Furthermore, even if section 501(c)(5) labor organizations were required to report their lobbying expenditures, the amount required to be reported on Form LM-2 includes activity, such as attempting to influence regulations, that is not required to be reported as lobbying, as the IRS limitations apply to legislative lobbying.”

Too bad she did not give conservative groups the same benefit of the doubt, but why would she? Move along, nothing to see here, there is not even a smidgen of corruption in the IRS…

Sadly, the media can only cover one story at a time. Almost no reporting of the fact that it is now claimed there is a backup of her e-mails, but “too hard to get to”.

As long as AG Holder is in control of the power under Obama, there will be no taking this woman down and she knows it. The media is trying their best to bury this story. After all, we have more important things to cover. Nothing stays in the lime light for very long. People, in general, just do not have much of an attention span, do they!!!!!

No they do not and what little attention span they have is distracted by what the MSM wants them to see. There is never going to be justice in this case and I don’t think the Republicans care because they want to see the Tea Party silenced as well.

That is just what we need, battling within the party, that will sure take the Senate back, won’t it? I was reading about the planes that were taken in Libya, I am sure we will be scared out of our wits by the media (at the instructions of this administration) with the terrorists going to crash into all of our national monuments come 9/11. The question is, while THAT is going on, what will this administration be pushing thru behind our backs?? Amnesty? What?

The Republican establishment has had it in for the conservative wing of the party for some time, that is why I do not think they are serious about getting to the bottom of the IRS scandal. In the end they are glad the IRS did what it did.
I think the MSM will likely avoid the planes that went missing because it will draw attention to Obama’s “we have no strategy” gaffe. But you never know, they could see a benefit to using this story to keep us focused on something other than what is happening in Washington.

I really think that the media was hoping the Michael Brown fiasco was going to go on longer. I guess they forgot that a little looting and burning stores out, goes a long way. At some point you have to go back to your “crib” and recoup. Most of the looters were from out of town, so I figured they would be going home. Guess it just wasn’t all the fun it was supposed to be. Like I have said before, the attention span of the Lo-Fo’s is well, pretty short. So now we have moved on to the next crisis of wondering where the airliners are and how to scare the hell out of those people. We have 7 or 8 days before 9/11 that needs to have some chaos in them.

Going back to the “crib?” Isn’t that racist? 😉
the Ferguson story has died down as the MSM’s narrative has proven to be false but that does not mean they still won’t try to use it to divide and conquer us. However November is still a ways off so they must look to find another crisis just in case this one does not pan out.

No, “crib” is not racist, apparently you must be racist to think it is, ha! I have a friend who lives in the 60’s, he refers to his house as a crib,,,,,just saying! The term might be a midwest term or my generation term, cannot say for sure.
