Is Federal gun control legislation dead because of the results of the mid-term election?

November 10, 2014

In this post on November 5th I briefly wrote about who the biggest losers in the mid-term election were; the gun control advocates. Now this post is stating that for all intents and purposes it appears as if any legislation on gun control on the Federal level is dead. (If nothing passes during the lame duck session that is.)

  Here is more:

Gun control advocates, who poured tens of millions of dollars into the election cycle, maintain that they made important strides at the state level, including a win on a Washington State ballot measure expanding background checks for gun sales.

Yet even they acknowledged that the odds of federal action in Washington in the next Congress just got a lot longer.

“After Tuesday’s midterm results, it looks even more apparent that it’s not going to be anytime soon,” Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, acknowledged.

“But make no mistake, our ultimate goal is for federal legislation to finish the job around background checks,” he added. “It may not be tomorrow, but we’re not going anywhere until it passes.”

How effective was the NRA and people who support the second amendment?

The NRA duked it out with gun control groups in the midterm elections, endorsing 279 congressional candidates and spending more than $25 million.

The group’s campaign efforts were overwhelmingly successful, as more than 90 percent of the candidates it backed won their races.

So is gun control legislation dead on the Federal level? It appears so however the key word in that question is ‘legislation’. We cannot sit back and relax feeling as if our job is done here because we must remember Barack Obama has a pen and a phone and he is not afraid to use them.

We can rest assured that the President is not going to take his eye off the ball and neither can we.

The new gun control battleground will be at the state level…just look at CT, NY, WA, CO, etc, etc. And the next time both houses of Congress end up in the liberals’ hands, watch out…no rest for the weary, I’m afraid…

I look at gun control much like amputating a limb, a permanent loss.

California has been ratcheting up it’s gun control laws for years: restrictions on magazines, ammunition, approval of pistols, licensing, it’s unending.

The law requiring state approval of each individual model of pistol (even if only the color is different) sold by a dealer, that has to be renewed every two years is particularly onerous. It’s pretty much destroyed the market for antique pistols.

I used to collect Connecticut made High Standard target pistols. Since that company is out of business, none of them can legally be sold by a licensed dealer. Private party transfers are doable IF you can find a private party with one for sale. It’s difficult at best.

I had no Idea California required approval on every model of pistol but that is a perfect example of how they are chipping away at the second amendment a little at a time.

Even a blue finish instead of a nickle finish or a three inch barrel instead of a four inch barrel requires separate testing and certification.

Last summer, I enjoyed a 9,500 mile cross country drive from coast to coast. The difference between what’s left of California’s gun rights compared to almost everywhere else was staggering. I felt like I was in a different country.

I knew California was strict but I had no idea it had gotten to that level.

No need to pursue gun control in a nation controlled by gun-nuttia is there? Guns are worshiped here almost as much as God Himself.

How would any of the proposed legislation stop criminal from purchasing weapons?

Nothing will ever stop criminals from purchasing …. or stealing weapons …. but maybe some of the nut cases could be spotted before they get their hands on a weapon ….. maybe ….. what is the harm in a little preventative medicine? The responsible citizens could still have all the firepower they desire.

“gun-nuttia”? does hoplophobia run in your family, or gallop?

and no, us “responsible citizens” can’t have all the firepower we desire. I want a M249 SAW. I have the cash. I have a reloading press and an ammo linking machine. but no new civilian legal class 3 weapons have been available for purchase since 1986.

this despite the 2nd amendment stating, pretty unambiguously, that my rights to own said light machine gun, an “arm” by anyone’s definition, shall not be infringed.

Holophobia has nothing to do with it. I am a supporter of gun rights for sane people. I am fully trained on a mind-boggling array of weaponry and have served in two different branches of the military. I have owned several weapons over my lifetime.

I guess you misunderstood my comment about responsible citizens being able to own as many weapons as they desire.

What I probably should have said is, “It is my opinion that “Responsible” citizens SHOULD be able to own as many weapons as they desire and SHOULD be able to buy a sherman tank if they can find the place to park it.

But the nut wads still need to be controlled,.

So maybe you have some idea of how this could be accomplished?

I have to admit I never heard of hoplophobia before but I am going to use it from now on. John, thank you for your service.

hoplophobia is an old cooper-ism, as in Jeff Cooper.

controlling the “nut wads” is simple. since there are very small amounts of said crazy people, and they are usually completely unidentifiable by any known test or measure they will volunteer to self-select to be removed from the herd. mostly by good guys with guns. but car bumpers, baseball bats, etc work well in a pinch.

mostly they will remain anonymous, as even though crazy, they are usually not self-destructive. they comprehend that good guys with guns will kill them. this is why they all select “gun free zones” to do their evil deeds…they know they can accomplish their goals unmolested by high speed projectiles of the “incoming” variety.

this is where the e-publicans (establishment) will claim they had nothing to do with it, but they will get the gun control they really want anyways.

all tyrants do the math before they seize power. right now the math is on our side…if just 3% of gun owners say “NO” and mean it, we outnumber them 97 to 1.

(by “them” I mean every trigger puller they can muster..local, state, and federal law enforcement, plus the DoD, homeland security, and every SWAT team they have in the department of education, the library of congress, and the other 70 or so agencies that employ them. yes, I said the library of congress. why do they have a SWAT team? that’s a darned good question, isn’t it?)

Yes that is a damn good question and I would like to know why the Feds needed billions of rounds of ammo also…
